Yangon University (University of Yangon) is located in Ganmayu, Yangon, Myanmar, on the shore of Inya Lake. Founded in 1878, it is the oldest and most famous university in Myanmar, with major disciplines in the humanities, science and engineering and law. Aung San Suu Kyi's alma mater. Yangda was the top school in Southeast Asia and the cradle of the political elite in Myanmar. Myanmar’s first prime minister, Wu Nu, was a college student and the first and only Myanmar Secretary-General, U Than, also graduated from the University of Yangon. But it gradually failed, from 1996 to 2013, Yangon University did not recruit undergraduates. Since 2013, Yangon University opened its doors to re-enroll undergraduates, and began to gradually establish ties with overseas universities.
