This is the second oldest Catholic church in the world, restored in the mid-19th century, but it is still there. Pope John Paul II visited it a few years ago. One of its tasks is to convert Native Americans to Christianity, and the other is to expand the Spanish empire on the New World and establish its foothold, centered on California's oldest buildings.
