Prince Kung's Mansion, located in Liuyin Street, Xicheng District, Beijing, is a key national cultural heritage site, a first-class national museum, and a national 5A-level tourist attraction. It is the largest princely mansion of the Qing Dynasty. Prince Kung's Mansion, situated at the southwest corner of the picturesque Shichahai in Beijing, nestles in a quiet and lengthy alley shaded by green willows. It is the most completely preserved mansion among the existing princely mansions. The mansion was originally the private residence of He Shen, a powerful court official during the Qianlong Emperor's reign, and Yong Lin, the brother of Emperor Jiaqing. Prince Kung's Mansion, as the residence of a Qing Dynasty prince, has a well-organized architectural layout, exquisite craftsmanship, and interlaced pavilions, fully reflecting the splendid and opulent style of the royal family as well as the simple and elegant charm of the common people. After the fall of the Qing Dynasty, the property rights of the mansion once belonged to Fu Jen Catholic University. In 1988, the garden of Prince Kung's Mansion was opened to the public, and in 2008, after the completion of the mansion's renovation project, it was fully opened to the public. Prince Kung's Mansion is divided into three sections: central, eastern, and western, each consisting of multiple quadrangles, with a 160-meter-long two-story rear building at the back. Prince Kung's Mansion has witnessed the historical process from the prosperity to the decline of the Qing Dynasty, carrying extremely rich historical and cultural information, hence the saying, 'One Prince Kung's Mansion, half of the history of the Qing Dynasty.'

(Continued from the previous part) The garden, also known as Cuijin Garden, covers an area of 28,000 square meters. The garden's architecture is divided into three routes: central, eastern, and western. Scattered throughout the garden are rockeries, winding corridors, pavilions, and ponds with various plants. Entering from the Western-style gate, one can see a large stone standing upright, resembling a carp. From another angle, it looks like a mother holding a baby, which is the famous Dule Peak. Moving forward, you reach the Bat Pond. Just as I arrived at the Anshan Hall, the rain began to fall. Beijing's summer rain is straightforward and hearty, accompanied by rolling thunder, pouring down like beans being sifted, not even giving time to seek shelter. Then it's as if someone is pouring water from a bucket, raining down heavily. I walked along the covered corridor and inadvertently arrived at the Tingyu Pavilion. Prince Gong Yi Xin wrote a poem titled 'Old Banana Plants Waiting for the Rain.' The mansion's owner and guests used to listen to the rain hitting the banana plants here. Coincidentally, more than 100 years later, I also had the chance to enjoy this experience. I continued along the corridor to the opera tower. The opera tower is very fresh and unique, with green vines and purple flowers painted on the walls and pillars. The whole room is bright and spacious, and it is said to have particularly good acoustics. I climbed up to the Inviting Moon Terrace. One end of the Inviting Moon Terrace was under renovation, so I returned the same way. I strolled to the Dicui Rock, and inside the Miyun Cave, there was a green stone stele with the character 'Fu' (fortune). There weren't many people because of the rain, so I went straight in to take a look. The 'Fu' character was inscribed by Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, complete with a seal, and the green stone stele was covered with glass. The Dicui Rock is quite impressive, built with layers of Taihu rocks, intricately stacked, with a pattern that resembles two dragons playing with a pearl. Afterwards, I went to the Fangtang Water Pavilion. The rain had lessened; summer rains come quickly and leave just as fast. Walking to the Yugu Pass, coming out, I saw the Dragon King Temple. This is the ancient people's awe and prayer for the natural forces. With this, the tour of the garden is complete.

Plenty of people so can be quite crowded at times. 😎 Presents a very Beautiful example of a mansion of a prince. This place is also surprisingly massive so plan your time well and keep yourself hydrated. 🍃 Rich history and nestled by culturally rich hutongs which are great to explore and close to Houhai Lakes area as well. There's a lake in the middle of the whole place where you can rent paddle boats. Do spent sometime in the garden and try to relax yourself.
