Reviews: Waitomo Caves: Ruakuri Glowworm Cave Guided Walking Tour
Guest User2026-06-28
This was a true highlight of our overall NZ trip. The cave system was easy to navigate and the glow worms were great. Our guide, Wi, was fantastic - educational and fun (and safe). He answered all of our many, many questions with a good sense of humor, while still being academic. The tour is curated really well with the lighting to reveal certain elements as you go, which is great. I've been to several caves around the world, and these were the most pristine, and the experience was the most awe-inspiring and fun, too. Oh, and I'm all for adventure, but had to do the walking version for other reasons... I am so glad I did! I don't think I would have seen or learned as much tubing down the river. I'm sure it would have been a blast to spelunk and tube, but I got to be right up close to the glow worms and take pictures, too. I'd do the walking version again in a heartbeat.

My experience in Auckland was fantastic! Our guide was incredibly friendly, caring, and knowledgeable. He introduced every viewpoint as we passed through each town, like a lesson in the middle of the journey. Afterward, we went on the Spellbound glowworm and cave tour. The guide explained the formation of the rock formations and caves. Both the caves and the glowworms were amazing! The shimmering glowworms created unforgettable memories. What a wonderful trip!
Reviews: Waitomo Glowworm Caves + Te Puia - Rotorua, NZ geothermal park 1-day tour for 16 people

It's Cheeky Wiki, a well-known local travel agency. Our group wasn't large this time, and the driver-guide arranged for self-introductions and a Q&A session, like a teacher leading students. It was my first time in New Zealand, and I saw wormholes, geothermal activity, and kiwis for the first time. It was definitely worthwhile to experience it all in one day. Although the driving time was a bit long, there were frequent short breaks, and the time management was reasonable, so it didn't feel too tiring.
