If you only have one day in Auckland, such as arriving the day before your cruise, there are two must-visit attractions: the volcanic crater and the Sky Tower. With any remaining time, you can stroll through parks, explore the city, try local cuisine, and buy some souvenirs. If you have a second day, join a tour to Hobbiton and the Waitomo Glowworm Caves. This is a full-day trip, costing around 6500-7000 TWD. When returning to Taiwan, you can take the airport bus from the Sky Tower. It costs 20 NZD and takes a little over half an hour. The first stop of the airport bus is the local airport, so don't get off there. Just follow the crowd of travelers. At the airport, watch your spending because it's easy to overspend! Make sure to buy your souvenirs in Auckland as they are relatively more expensive at the airport.

If you can only choose one spot to see Auckland, I would recommend Mount Victoria in Devonport. Take a ferry from the city center for about ten minutes to Devonport, then slowly walk up the slope, and the view gradually opens up. When you finally stand on the summit, Waitematā Harbour, the Sky Tower, and the entire skyline appear before your eyes. The sense of openness is hard to fully capture in photos. On sunny days, the sea shows a clear blue, with sailboats dotting the water; low clouds press against the distant mountains, and the light and shadows constantly change. Turning in another direction, you can see the bridge and the residential area on the other side of the harbor, with distinct layers. The grassy summit is very comfortable, perfect for sitting and daydreaming or waiting for the sunset. After walking around Auckland, it feels like a smaller version of Sydney. It is also a harbor city, with ferries and great views of the CBD. A day of city walking starts at the Sky Tower. This TV tower seems to be the tallest building in the city and can be seen from anywhere. Not far from the Sky Tower is St. Matthew's Cathedral. The granite exterior walls are quiet and beautiful, but not too stunning. A few hundred meters from the church is the Auckland Art Gallery. Here you can find masterpieces by New Zealand artists as well as classics by European artists. The gallery is not large, but it has everything you need. Next to the gallery is Albert Park. The park is not large, but the trees are thick and create a green shade. Next to the park is the University of Auckland. The university is open, with all the faculties and departments along the road. Walking along the university, you will soon reach the pier. Large cruise ships are moored here, and the ferry terminal is here. You can take a round trip to Devonport for NZD 12, no need to buy a ticket, just swipe your card. Devonport is a wealthy area with many villas. Children are happily playing with sailboats here. It doesn't take long to walk along the road to the top of Mount Victoria, which is a great place to overlook the Auckland harbor and CBD. Take the ferry back to the city, and it doesn't take long to walk back to the city center. The whole trip can be done on foot, and it's not tiring at all. We left at 10 am and returned to the hotel at 5:30 pm.
