Pet friendly Hotels in Ionian Islands, Greece

A really nice, clean and friendly hotel, five minutes walk from Corfu airport. My flight landed too late for ferries to Paxos, so I stayed at The Bretagne. I asked for a room with a bath, which I got, and which was a joy after a long journey. There was a fridge in the room with complimentary bottled water and my very good rate included breakfast, (not a brilliant breakfast, but the tea and toast was fine). The hotel was very clean, had a lovely lounge and a bar/cafe with outdoor seating. I spent time there on my way home, too, again because ferries didn't align with my flight, so I went back to Bretagne, used their lounge and had a club sandwich. A very pleasant surprise! Having had a delayed flight from Heathrow due to operational difficulties (hydraulic failure) and the 40 minute drive to the hotel, received a very welcoming greeting from Spiros (in was late evening). He allocated a room on the floor below reception. I couldn’t see much from the room as it was very dark that night, although I could hear the sea. The following morning woke up to a wonderful sunrise over the mountains on the mainland. So, that was a great start to the day ….. and then breakfast, hosted by the wonderful Katerina, who made it clear where everything was. Breakfast was plentiful and varied – I did try to stick to the healthy fruits and salads, but was also tempted by the hot offerings. It was great to be able to sit on the verandah and feel the peace. Buffet evening meal was available on the first night as there was a group of German tourists staying there (their last night) and provided a varied buffet style cuisine – very filling and most enjoyable. For the remaining nights, there were no more than 20 people staying in the hotel, so a short drive to Nidri offered plenty of variety of restaurants for everyone’s taste. All the housekeeping staff worked hard to keep the hotel clean and tidy and were friendly. The property/maintenance team kept the gardens well maintained etc. During the course of the stay, it was evident that some of the staff had been there for many years and this is a good reflection on the hotel. All the staff I came into contact with were very friendly and helpful including Vasiliki, Elefteria, Katerina, Vaso, Aphrodite and Thanos. Apologies if I have left anyone out. The view from the room was fabulous – every morning a spectacular sunrise and in the evening, the full moon (towards the end of the stay) lighting up the Ionian Sea. Walking down the 203 steps (not 1000 as had been reported!!!) to the broad walk was not a problem at all – the paths and steps are in very good condition and each flight has handrails. The wooden broad walk was equipped with sunbeds and parasols (if needed) and was an ideal place to sit/stand and relax, watching the world (mostly sailing boats and yachts) go by. There are also transparent lifts that follow the same route for those either unwilling or able to manage the steps. So, you can witness the view from the lifts whilst descending/ascending. The only downside was that the outer pool had been recently emptied in preparation for the closed season, but there were still sunbeds there if you wanted to admire the view from that level. The indoor pool was available in any case. In summary, the hotel was a good find, excellent staff, wonderful views from so many levels (bar, restaurant, room balcony, outdoor pool and broad walk) and ample, clean accommodation. It should be noted that Tripadvisor indicates that this hotel is 3-star according to the Giata rating, and my expectation was exceeded in this case. I hope to return again next year. Thank you.

Really lovely apartment. We arrived very late at night from Dubai (with a few days in Manchester) so we had a fair bit of luggage, and a toddler in tow. There are quite a few stairs to get to the apartment entrance, so if you have lots of luggage/a pram etc just be mindful of this as it’s a bit of a struggle getting up all of the stairs. Once you’re at the entrance there’s some more stairs again to get to the elevator. The apartment itself is just stunning, really clean, with lots of space. This is needed when travelling with children. The bedroom is really spacious and has a small balcony (which we didn’t open due to the toddler but could be really cute of an evening). Bathroom well equipped and clean, and a small kitchen with a dishwasher and everything you need. There’s a laundry area on the ground floor which is great, we did a load of washing which helped us with the toddler. The location is perfect, you’re really central with all of the amazing old town sights closeby. There’s also a supermarket closeby (use google maps) to get staples etc. Overall, we loved the apartment. Given we came from Dubai and have high expectations with hotels etc, this was fabulous. Would highly recommend for families, as long as you’ve got someone to help with the luggage!

I didn’t expect much from the 2* hotel with bad reviews, but the hotel promised two of my requirements- a beautiful sea view and an adult-only hotel. Unfortunately, it failed in both. The sea view is not as advertised- maybe on the second floor, but on the first floor, all you can see from the balcony is the top of the restaurant roof. I could live with that, but once we went to the swimming pool on the third day of our stay, a family showed up with their maybe 6-7-year-old daughter, jumping and shouting all the time/ the mom was even louder than the girl/. The hotel didn't have water twice for a couple of hours so we took a shower at the beach, and once there was kind of an electricity outage so the air-conditioning and refrigerator didn't work in the afternoon and evening. The double bed was not a double bed, it was about 120 or 130cm wide, and such trouble for two grown-ups to sleep on. The mattress was with springs and was super bouncy, not comfortable at all. There are no hangers for shower towels and no place to dry beach towels on the balcony. The shower curtain is a nightmare, sticking on your back all the time during showering. Only once during breakfast, I ordered two 0.2 bottles of Prosecco in the hotel bar, and the price was 20e, and in all bars around the hotel, it is half-price. The hotel is very dated but very clean. What makes it special are the people working there. Every single one was super polite. The two young ladies working on the reception desk were so helpful. The room was well-cleaned every day and we got clean towels each time! The restaurant is renovated, breakfast was more than OK- repetitive, but you cannot expect more than they offer. The dinner didn't offer many vegetarian options, so we had salads and some potatoes a couple of times, and the rest of the nights, we had dinner in some of the local and the old town restaurants. Anyway, whatever we had was so tasty! The location is great. The air-conditioning is old but worked well, and a huge plus is that an outdoor unit is not on the balcony, so there is no noise. I was surprised by the room isolation- no sounds from the rooms around, we only heard some laughing a couple of times when someone passed by late at night by the room door. Altogether, the hotel is more than worth the money you for it. If the balcony was better and if there were no children, I would score it with four or five stars!
