We stayed for 1 night at this hotel. The room was lovely and staff were friendly. I requested a room with a bath which we got. However there was no plug in the bath so it wouldn’t fill up. The reception was helpful at getting us a new plug tho. We also used the swimming pool which was lovey and very clean. Overall a good experience.
Pleasant room. Only stayed for 8 hours in total, so did not use any of the hotel amenities. Decor is looking a little worn but far from outdated and dilapidated. Bedroom was a fair size and tidy. Tea/coffee supplies, bottled water, hairdryer, iron, soap/shampoo/shower gel. The only thing thing letting the stay down was the bed. The frame felt a little unstable and the mattress felt very ‘bouncy’ and cheap. I still managed to sleep ok but I have slept in much more comfortable beds at basic hotels. Overall, for the amount I paid, it was well worth the stay.
Hotel was huge, couple of things that really disturb me:
1. Toilet were old and it stinks of damp
2. There were no window to open for fresh air evening time it really gets hot the room needs fresh air to circulate, I had to open the doors to get fresh airs.
3. The most disturbing thing that occurred when there were cleaners and other stuff came in the room without knocking the door there were no display to put outside when the room was occupied I stayed there for 2 nights the stuff just gets in with their master keys. Very unprofessional.
4. There were no bottles of water at the table normally when I enter most hotels there was water but this one there were nothing.
5. Make sure you bring along your charger for your mobile, normally hotels have USB this days.
Other then that receptionist was friendly to give her charger.
We had a lovely time we were here 40 years ago for our honeymoon. The hotel left us a decorated plate with chocolates which was very thoughtful. Food was delicious and staff were lovely definitely going again .
This hotel is right next to the shopping village, literally a few seconds walk away. They offer discount vouchers for nearby shops, which weren't that useful for actual shopping, but were great for dining! The Michelin chef's restaurant, BB, is just diagonally opposite the hotel and you get a 20% discount there, which is fantastic.
I been here probably 15 times. This place it’s just amazing, every time I come to visit New Forest I book The Retreat New Forest for my staying with my dogs! There it’s pet friendly and no charge for dogs (that’s fantastic) a big bonus for me so why I come here many time!
The room it’s clean, very comfy and relaxing!
I recommend if you’re coming around New Forest with your furry friends, don’t hesitate to stay there!

GGuest UserThe staff were very attentive and allowed us to check in early, They gave good advice on surrounding amenities, and were helpful throughout our stay. Although our room and shower room were was small, they were both clean and very well presented. The food in the pub was of a good standard and we were made to feel very welcome.
GGuest UserAmazing food no words to say how wonderful dogs welcome and food served all day Roast beef as picture was outstanding we also had rack of ribs filly burger and fish n chips all massive portions and truly lovely. The staff were friendly and helpful without being over helpful. Enjoy 😉
GGuest UserVery authentic English country hotel, the surrounding area is beautiful, it is recommended to enjoy its dinner and breakfast, it tastes great.
