The heating and air conditioning are sufficient, giving southerners a full sense of security. When breakfast is about to end, they will knock on the door of each room to ask if you have eaten breakfast. The service was very good and enthusiastic. The air conditioner was already on when I checked in. The lady at the front desk also helped to deliver the luggage to the room and explained the precautions very considerately.

This is the best desert guesthouse I've ever stayed at! The owner is a local, and someone came to pick us up as soon as we arrived at the parking spot, always on call. The bonfire party at night was lively, and the fireworks were beautiful. We stayed in a cabin, which was clean and had air conditioning, so it wasn't cold at night. I absolutely loved this place! I’m writing this as a foreigner who went with 4 other foreigners for a special birthday weekend. First, the service. We have good Chinese proficiency, but those with limited to none will be fine. Most of the communication and coordination is handled via WeChat - which can auto translate. 东 “Dong” was our main contact. He rocked and gave us a real experience. He shuttled us in the sand jeep, gifted me a cake for my birthday, and was just an overall cool guy. Thanks! Second, the location and accommodations. If you stay near Desert Star, there’s a lot of people and campsites - that area seems like a bit of a tourist funnel. This area is located in the REAL sand dunes area. Further North, you actually cross into Inner Mongolia. The separation and distance is worth it. Makes for brighter stars and a more authentic experience. Third, the food. They were able to coordinate a whole lamb to be roasted for my birthday. It was absolutely extraordinary. The sides for it were some of the best I had on the entire trip - they have some skilled chefs there. This place has great reviews, and it’s worth it. I do recommend this to foreigners, and I hope I can return one day.

Traveling with a child during the holidays, we chose this hotel. Even before checking in, we received a WeChat message from the concierge with a comprehensive mini-guide, which was really helpful. The hotel itself is excellent; it's very quiet, perfect for sleeping. They provide kids' toiletries, all in single-use packets, so you don't need to bring your own, and they're very safe. On the second floor, there were some fun activities for children over the past two days, like Yellow River-themed painting, which my child absolutely loved and found very engaging. The hotel breakfast is also great, featuring local specialties like 'Haozi noodles,' and it runs until 11 AM, so no need to rush in the morning. In the evenings, on the third floor, they offer complimentary fruit and congee. If I didn't feel like going out, I could just take my child there for some congee and fruit. Overall, the stay was fantastic, and I highly recommend this hotel.

Extremely satisfied with this trip! The hostess contacted us in advance, and her attitude was thoughtful and lovely. She informed us that the room might not be big enough and upgraded us, also asking if we'd like to order meals. Since our itinerary was quite tight, we didn't order food this time, but we should definitely try it next time. The B&B's environment was a wonderful surprise, located amidst a large vineyard. A short bike ride away, the entire Helan Mountain range appears before your eyes. The restaurant also offers an unbeatable view. The tour of the winery was a nice addition too. Overall, there's so much waiting for everyone to discover. I regret only booking for one day; a more leisurely stay would have been even better.

Bringing the kids to the desert was totally worth it! They were incredibly excited the whole time, playing in the sand and sandboarding during the day, stargazing at night, and attending a bonfire party – they were so happy they didn't want to sleep! The tents were quiet and comfortable, and the staff were super friendly and even helped look after the children. A fantastic experience, five stars!

The biggest surprise of my trip to Zhongwei was staying at the Xiang Tengger Desert Hotel. Deep in the Tengger Desert, far from the hustle and bustle, the dedicated shuttle service made check-in hassle-free, saving us the trouble of driving into the sand ourselves. The rooms were clean and dry, which is quite rare for a desert environment, and the facilities exceeded our expectations. During the day, we enjoyed playing on the sand dunes, with plenty of activities like sandboarding and other desert adventures that kept the kids entertained. In the evening, we waited for the stunning desert sunset, and after dark, there was a bonfire party and fireworks. Looking up, we could see the brilliant Milky Way – the atmosphere was absolutely incredible. The staff were warm and attentive, quickly resolving any issues we had. Overall, it perfectly blended wilderness adventure with comfort, making it ideal for a family trip. If I ever return to the Zhongwei desert, I'll definitely stay here again.

A very new hotel with larger-than-life rooms and beds that feel like apartments. The location is midway between Shapotou and Zhongwei City, so it may not be ideal for some looking for nightlife, but there are several inexpensive restaurants in walking distance, so it's easy enough to get food. The bus stop of number 2 going to the city and the sand dunes is 5 minutes walk away - just time it right because there's one bus per hour in each direction. There's Chinese-style breakfast included which may not be for everyone but it was filling. Definitely worth the money! Had a blissful rest here and would go back.
