The World Expo Museum Grand Tour, a salon for exploring memories of the Expo
The Shanghai World Expo Museum, transformed from the old factory buildings of the Jiangnan Shipyard, is the only museum in the world that comprehensively exhibits the theme of the World Expo.
The entire building is majestic, with 'Expo Memory' and 'Urban Life' as its themes, interpreted through the overlapping images of 'Historical Valley' representing history, meditation, and eternity, and 'Celebration Cloud' representing the future, openness, and the ephemeral.
Enjoy the splendor of past World Expos at the Shanghai World Expo Museum
The World Expo, born in London, United Kingdom in 1851, was initiated by Prince Albert, the husband of Queen Victoria, and inventor Henry Cole, among others.
The World's Fair not only exhibited in the Crystal Palace, earning Britain the honor of 'leader of the Industrial Revolution,' but also ushered in a new era of international cultural exchange.
The country that has hosted the most number of World Expos is the United States, and the city with the most is Paris. The six Paris World Expos have turned Paris into a stage of diverse aesthetics, showcasing tremendous technological progress. From steam to electricity, the transportation revolution and the birth of the metro have made Paris a stage of diverse aesthetics.
The World Expo is a stage that encompasses endless inventions, providing a perfect opportunity for the development and experimentation of urban planning, architecture, and design. The Space Needle at the 1962 Seattle World Expo, and the geodesic dome at the 1967 Montreal World Expo,
Each World Expo builds a temporary or permanent model of an ideal future city through a different theme. People have the opportunity to travel the world within a city, experiencing the stunning architecture, music, and cultural atmosphere from all over the globe.
The top ten inventions that changed the world, from airplanes to robots, from televisions to touch screens, have all made their debut at the World Expo.
At the 1867 Paris World Expo, the high-wheeler bicycle made its appearance. In 1908, the Ford Model T car was first showcased in Detroit. In 1958, the 102-meter tall Atomium in Brussels symbolized the importance of exploring the structure of matter and the use of atomic energy in peacetime.
Let us head to the sea of sunflowers and listen to the story of Van Gogh's life!
"My heart is ablaze, yet no one stops to warm themselves; passersby hurry on, seeing only a wisp of smoke", "Color to a painting is like blood to life", "I express the fervor of human emotions with reds and greens", "How lovely is yellow, it represents the sun". These poignant copywriting lines reveal Van Gogh's sincere passion for art.
❤Recommended Reason:
This is the "Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience"! The exhibition has traveled to over 30 countries and 89 international cities, attracting nearly ten million visitors, making it the most visited multi-screen immersive light exhibition in the world. The special commemorative exhibition in its 90th global city is now in full swing at the Shanghai World Expo Museum, running until September 10th (covering the Dragon Boat Festival and the summer holiday season), so don't miss it.
🌟Highlights:
At the entrance, the garden is decorated with sunflowers and Van Gogh's famous paintings, with a light show in the evening. The exterior design of the World Expo Museum building is also very unique, making it a popular photo spot for tourists.
After ticket inspection, there is an introduction to Van Gogh's paintings, including "The Potato Eaters" and "Van Gogh's Bedroom in Arles", both set up as real-life scenes from the paintings.
The mirror room in the sunflower sea is highly recommended for checking in, as the effect is better when there are fewer people. It is a great place for a date or a confession, with the mirrors even inscribed with "The world may be fickle, but we still love deeply".
The main event is a 40-minute immersive multi-screen light show that clearly introduces Van Gogh's life and works. In addition to the stunning scene design, the organizers have carefully matched 15 classic tracks. The venue also incorporates the soothing scents of cypress, cedar, sandalwood, and nutmeg, with the floating fragrance composed of top, middle, and base notes, all of which are pleasant but not overpowering.
The sunflower and starry sky cakes in the restaurant, and the Van Gogh-themed cultural and creative products in the gift shop are all very interesting, and I recommend everyone to try them.
🚉Transportation Tips:
Take Metro Line 13 to the World Expo Museum Station, exit 2, cross the road, and you'll see the large Van Gogh exhibition billboard, which is very noticeable.
Behold the beauty of Edo period scenery and glimpse the fusion of Japanese culture
The World Expo Museum has a new exhibit, "Essence of the Orient" is a collection of Japanese artifacts from the Royal Ontario Museum in Canada. It showcases the beauty of Edo period scenery and the aesthetics of Eastern living.
In Japanese culture and art, aesthetic keywords such as objects and Zen, intent and environment, aesthetics and philosophy, are present in various aspects of Japanese art, life, and society, forming the unique temperament of Japanese aesthetics.
Inro were originally used to hold seals, but during the Edo period, they evolved into containers worn at the waist for storing medicine. The elegant and subtle decorations on these objects express a pursuit of emotion and contemplation of the meaning of life, sophisticated yet full of charm.
White Satsuma ware was porcelain for the exclusive use of the Satsuma domain's lord, while Black Satsuma ware was ceramic made for the general populace.
During the Heian period (794-1192 AD), the art of shi-e lacquerware matured and became Japan's most representative lacquerware.
Noh and music held significant positions during the Edo period. Noh is a form of theater with themes of ghosts or mythology. Kyogen, aimed at humor and comedy, serves as an interlude in Noh performances. Most Japanese musical instruments were introduced from China and later developed into the unique harmony of Japanese music.
Essence of the Orient - Japanese Artifacts from the Royal Ontario Museum of Canada
The 'Essence of the Orient' exhibition at the World Expo Museum showcases the beauty of Japan's Edo period through tea ceremony utensils, lacquerware with maki-e, and ukiyo-e prints, presenting the aesthetics of Japanese life and its cultural connections with China.
Master Saichō and Master Kūkai introduced tea culture from China's Tang dynasty to Japan, where it was beloved by the aristocracy. The monk Eisai wrote the first Japanese treatise on tea, 'Kissa Yōjōki'.
The founder of Japanese tea ceremony, Murata Jukō, followed Zen master Ikkyū and realized Zen through tea, initially forming the idea of 'unity of tea and Zen'. Sen no Rikyū integrated Japanese waka poetry into the tea ceremony.
Sen no Rikyū, the great master of the tea ceremony, invented the Raku ware tea bowl, establishing the core of the Japanese tea ceremony. He modified Jukō's tea ceremony philosophy from 'kei-kyū-sei-jaku' (respect, purity, tranquility) to 'wa-kei-sei-jaku' (harmony, respect, purity, tranquility), making the tea ceremony accessible to the common folk.
In the tea ceremony, the mizusashi has a lid and is used for holding clean water, while the kensui is for waste water. The Karatsu kiln is one of the earliest in the history of Japanese ceramics, reaching its peak during the Edo period, and was highly prized by tea ceremony enthusiasts, leading to the saying 'first Ido, second Raku, third Karatsu'.

Visited an exhibition in the Magic City over the weekend, and was blown away by the niche fiber art!
Threads connect and weave through each other, endlessly, and the language of fibers flows, creating a community that is both soft and strong.
I especially love Wu Fan's 'Spring' series, where the passion of youth is like branches breaking free from their restraints, and thoughts are as plentiful as heavy braids. Perhaps wait a little longer, for the flowers to bloom and the swallows to return...

Shanghai Exhibition | World Expo Museum
In addition to the permanent exhibition, there are currently 2 special exhibitions
🔘One is a paid exhibition 'Van Gogh Reappears, Immersive Light and Shadow Exhibition'
It's quite good for taking pictures, but I still prefer to see the original works
🔘The other is a free exhibition 'World Expo and Lace Art Exhibition'
It ends on 8.27.
The exhibition is divided into 4 units, which are about lace. I personally walked around and felt that the most precious exhibits were the costumes and fans of Princess Sissi in the Austrian Pavilion of the 2010 World Expo. The rest are some 19-20th century lace dresses, hats, tablecloths and other textiles.
🔘In addition to the exhibition, I highly recommend the architecture of the World Expo Museum, streamlined design, very good for taking pictures, there are new discoveries from various angles, wide-angle, telephoto are very out of the picture.
I happened to encounter a touch of sunset on the second floor platform, it's absolutely beautiful...
【Practical Information】

📌Exhibition name: Van Gogh Reappears (Shanghai Station)
📍Detailed address:
Address: World Expo Museum
⏳Play time:
Exhibition time: 2023..~.
🌌With the hot screening of the suspense film 'Her Disappearance',
The beautiful scenes in the movie are definitely worth seeing in person, such as the sea of sunflowers.
🌼Came to the World Expo Museum and watched the 'Van Gogh Reappears' theme exhibition,
The sea of sunflowers is beautifully arranged, and the scene gives people a feeling of sunshine and hope.
The work 'Sunflower' was also appreciated. This series of works was created by Van Gogh during his peak creative period in Arles, France, and also expressed gratitude for life.
📝Note tips:
Other warm-colored works were also created by Van Gogh during his time in France, forming his own distinctive features, and the paintings of flowers and plants are brightly colored.
💐'Blooming Apricot Flowers' is also very classic. Although it is a blue-green main color, and he has already moved into the sanatorium, but this work is full of hope for his soon-to-be-born nephew.

Free premium exhibition recommendation: Delicate Oriental style has blown to Shanghai
Seeing the introduction of the Expo Museum
I was attracted by the beauty of several collections
The result far exceeded expectations. It's so beautiful!
The entire exhibition is divided into 3 parts:
🌟Tea and Zen: It shows a lot of tea art utensils
It has a bit of the elegance of the Song Dynasty tea ceremony
And a unique Japanese style
🌟Flowers, birds, wind and moon: I love the gorgeous and exquisite lacquerware
It also indirectly understands a lot of the lifestyle and appearance of the middle and upper classes at that time
🌟Once in a lifetime: Basically Japanese paintings
The famous Japanese art form Ukiyo-e
There are even paintings by Katsushika Hokusai. Surprise!
I rarely calm down and objectively understand
This nation that has a similar culture to us
But let us love and hate
Looking at those arts that originated in China and bloomed in other regions
It feels very unique and beautiful. Beauty is always good.
You can also go to see another treasure exhibition at the same time

Visit the museum in a different way | The World Expo Museum Exhibition Hall by the Cannon Adventure Academy
World Expo Museum
Address: 818 Mengzi Road
Admission to the World Expo Museum itself is free, but there are occasional special exhibitions inside that require separate tickets.
I took my child to participate in the activities of the Cannon Adventure Academy (Shanghai World Expo Store), and explored the World Expo Exhibition Hall through Xiao 🍊.
There are four floors in total, 8 exhibition halls, many historical introductions about various World Expos, many collections, and many gifts from other countries, as well as some advanced concepts of future technology. The most impressive thing is the dynamic Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival.
Through clues, the children basically covered all the content of all floors, and learned a lot in the process of finding answers.
There are no NPCs in the indoor exhibition hall, which reduces some fun, but it's a good thing to explore the museum in a different way indoors in hot weather.
Brilliant Spectrum·British Boutique Exhibition|Shanghai·World Expo Museum
🇬🇧The treasures of the British V&A Museum are on tour in Shanghai, which is the museum's first exhibition in Shanghai and the Yangtze River Delta.
🎨The V&A Museum, originated from the first World Expo held in London in 1851, carries the function of inheriting and promoting the legacy of the World Expo. The exquisite works of art in gold and silver on display in Shanghai, most of which are the private collection of Rosalind and Arthur Gilbert, are very luxurious! Very exquisite!
✅Free visit, no appointment required
🎨The exhibition is open and continues until December.

Shanghai Metro Line 13 World Expo Museum Station Exit 2
See lace again
Exhibition Name: Qisi Miaoyi - Expo and Lace Art Exhibition
Exhibition Location: Expo Museum (818 Mengzi Road)
Public Transportation: Metro Line 13 Expo Museum Station
Exhibition Date: June 2, 2023 to August 27
Exhibition Tickets: Free without reservation
Exhibition Recommendation: The exhibition sorts out the lace in Western fashion, including categories such as home textiles, clothing, and accessories, spanning the 18th to 20th centuries. Through the exploration of the types, functions, historical and cultural background of lace, and the origin of the Expo, it shows the historical significance and humanistic feelings carried by lace.
Mist language and wind words: I don't know if crochet works are a kind of lace? I personally think the similarity is 99%. Crochet works were very popular in the 1970s and 1980s. When someone got married, the bridesmaids helped the bride to crochet tablecloths, curtains, door curtains, and even bed covers. At that time, who didn't have a few "crochets", it was popular to spread "crochet" on the five-drawer cabinet and the bed cabinet, and press the glass plate on it.
Shanghai World Expo
The World Expo in 2010 was a sensation across the country. On a whim, I bought a ticket to Shanghai. I visited the pavilions for 3 days, witnessing a sea of people and many carefully arranged national pavilions. The one that attracted the most attention was the China Red Pavilion, followed by the French Seed Pavilion and the Giant Baby, which also left a deep impression. Did anyone go there at that time?
