local meets global food fair
visited the local meets global food fair at tiong Bahru Plaza mall. there are a few pop up stores here selling a wide variety of food and beverages. there are beef cubes, rosti, pancakes, taro biscuit, oyster mushrooms , Takoyaki etc.
I ordered the rosti (classic flavor) with a cheese sausage and it was $10. the portion was quite worth it for the price paid. and food was good also had a garlic spicy oyster mushroom which was really delicious!! there was a shrimp paste shop which I thought the food was average. and the pancake store but I didn’t really like it. overall very crowded but cool place to check out. it’s only happening from now till mid august.

tasty beef noodles
Tongue tip lanzhou beef noodles
Address - Tiong Bahru Plaza outlet #02-107
Avg. Price per Person - 11++
They have a few outlets in Singapore. I like their dry noodles while my partner prefers their beef soup noodles. Do get their chili if you can take spice for that extra kick. They have a few type of noodles to choose from. Go for flat if you like chewy noodles or thin if you prefer to slurp yours. I usually just get normal coz i find that the best with my dry noodles.
Do order sides to go with it if you are a big eater! Coz their noodle portion is quite big. We are usually very full when we finish the whole dish.

Chill with Quality Desserts at Drips Cafe
#cafes #weekdaynights #pastries #foodhunt #wortheverypenny
Always heard about the cafe hopping trend at Tiong Bahru? Or maybe the Tiong Bahru market where you can find cheap food and yet taste delicious?
Planning a trip there for food? Do consider the Drips Cafe which we found after meal at Tiong Bahru, where you can find freshly baked pastries at a decent price. Some of the recommendations would be the apple tart as it has fresh apple slices, and also the berries tart as the fruits are fresh.
It is also pretty quiet so good for chit chats on weekday night.

Gourmet Street Hawker Centre
For those that are staying at Kim Tian Road are very familiar with this hawker centre called gourmet Street located at 131 Jalan Bukit Merah, #01-1599, Singapore 16013, located about a 10/15 mins walk away from tiong bahru MRT.
This hawker has been here for pretty long even during covid due to its old time stalls deserving really good prata! It might not be a branded prata stall but dang.... this prata here is something you have to try, my girlfriend goes crazy over it. There are other stalls like roasted duck and chaw siu that can get insanely long queue especially during lunch hours. The prices here are also generally your average hawker stalls in singapore which are really affordable. You should drop by here if you are around the area! Definitely able to satisfy your tum tum!

40years old Hong Kong Bakery
Looking for some old school Hong Kong bakery that has been in the industry for more than 40 over years? You should head to Leung Sang Hong Kong Paatries where they have pastries like the Hong Kong best selling egg tarts where this is a Buttery crust and its really crumbly! They too have their famous Hong Kong polo bun, char siew sou and chicken pie. But overall the winners here are the egg tarts and polo bun!
Located at 18 Jalan Membina, #01-06, Singapore 164018 right opposite of the tiong bahru plaza! They do always have this on going promotion of buy 10 free 1 and what's best of all, you can also see them making it fresh on the spot. The smell of these baked items makes passer by go hungry!

The Traveling Connoisseur A-One Signature At Tiong Bahru
A-One brand has been around for ages, they are group that was establish in 2008 but is famously well known for their claypot porridges.
A-One signature at tiong bahru has an extensive menu, not only the different variations of porridge but also meat dishes like Singapore favourite salted egg, vegetables like sambal kangkong, tofu dishes and many more!
They do have a 2 variation of set menu with either 2mains and 1 side dish or 2 mains with 2 side dish at an average price of $10 per dish which is general quite okay for restaurant standard. But one should always try their porridge here, I'm saying this because I'm never a porridge person, not my kind of stuff but for A-One I've to say it's really good!

A Neighbourhood Mall in Tiong Bahru
Tiong Bahru Plaza has been around for ages, its first operated in 1994 and is located at 302 Tiong Bahru Rd, Singapore 168732.
This mall has been serving the tiong bahru, bukit merah estate with many of its tenant being there the longest time. The mall has all the essential items like a salon, food court, restaurants, clothings, supermarket and even a movie theatre! Once awhile, the atrium at level 1 will have different events running, like a book fair or food fair, this really depends on the mall management itself.
There is so a new extension, which consists of a whole section of famous restaurants like shi li fang a steam boat restaurant, popular fast food joint and such. Not a very big mall, but it has everything that one requires.

A gem for sourdough! 🥖🍞
#winhkflight
If you are looking for good sourdoughs, look no further! Check the MICROBakery in Tiong Bahru, which is their newest outlet. We went there around 10 in the morning and it was already crowded ! We ordered a fig and cheese sourdough and a Capresse sourdough. The texture of the bread was great, it’s chewy and bouncy! I personally like the fig and cheese one ! One thing is that the sound circulation isn’t great hence it can get a little too loud!
I want to check out Bakehouse in Hong Kong for their egg tarts !

MICRO Bakery for great sourdough!
#winhkflight
Looking for a breakfast spot to start your Sunday ? Check out the newly opened Micro Bakery in Tiong Bahru. This is a beautiful new location for superb sourdough! It was already very crowded when we visited around 10.30 am. Love that they have a good variety of sweet and savoury choices of bread. We ordered Capresse bread and fig and cream cheese ciabatta. I really love the fig and cream cheese ciabatta. The ingredients are simple but the texture of the sourdough was chewy and went really well with the sweet figs.
I want to visit Hong Kong to try out Bakehouse’s little sourdough egg tarts!

Ambiance/Facilities - air-con clean seatings
Highlights - Korean style chīx stew & dishes

Rating - This newly opened outlet at Tiong Bahru benefits those westies in Sg, with the only other store at Serangoon garden previously. This 65years old brand name from Korea serves up signature chix stew in both clear broth and spicy garlicY version. Options of side ingredients like mushrooms, ramen, kalguksu, luncheon meat etc can be added into the broth and the clear broth soup is refillable. Other Korean dishes like seafood pancake, cheese balls, seaweed rīce rolls, ramen, kimchi w BBQ pork slices are well executed and flavourful as well. We ended the meal with staff frying seaweed fried rice in pot in front of us and it was savoury. Only side note was ventilation not that good eyes were stinging by end of the meal Lol. Anyways we enjoyed the meal and it's worth a visit if no long queue( recommended to make online reservation before popping by). Btw they're doing a 30% off their chīx stew till end of March 2024 so do pop over soon for this opening deal!
