Ming City Wall 🇨🇳 Nanjing
Nanjing City Wall is a fun way to get around the city.
A great way to get your steps in while exploring Nanjing.
The wall has lots of entry points and grand gates that have been restored. We entered at the museum and learnt more about the Ming dynasty city wall.
In the evening the wall is illuminated and at the Wumaio gate there is a performance area where concerts or shows can be held.
Getting There- The wall is easy to reach by taxi, foot or metro especially if you are staying in the downtown area.
Attractions- Good places to start would be the the Wumaio gate which has lots of steps and vendors at the top or the city wall museum where you can learn about its history before you start your walk.

📍Closest subway station: Xuanwumen (line 1)
I had a great time!
I suggest you go there about an hour before the sunset so you can enjoy both views.
Here’s some information about the scenic spot:
“Nanjing City Wall is one of the key historical and cultural remains of Ming Dynasty (1386) under state protection. It is a masterpiece of China's ancient architecture. With an original perimeter of about 35 kilometers (22 miles), the City Wall has a height 14-21 meters (46-67 feet). The footing has a width of 14 meters (about 46 feet). The present remains have a length of about 21 kilometers (13 miles). Nanjing is one of the few cities in China that still have old city walls, and its City Wall is better preserved with most part still remained. Nanjing citizens attach great importance to the work of protecting the wall because the wall symbolizes the history of Nanjing.”

The 600-Year-Old City Wall Still Stands
History: "The largest city wall in the world is in Nanjing. The wall is over 32km long. It was built to defend the city against coastal pirates. The construction of the wall required the labor of 200,000 workers over 21 years to complete. This city was laid out in much the same pattern as Beijing; indeed Nanjing’s was the pattern for Beijing’s Forbidden City".
Now I'm sharing you the beautiful views from the top of the wall. The wall is something everyone should experience. It's quite a view up there and a great history of China.
📍Closed subway stations are : Line 1 Xuanwumen Station / Line 3 NFU / Line 3 Jimingsi
📍Entrance Fee : 30 yuan
Enjoy!🙈

Another trip idea for Qingming Festival - Nanjing!
I managed to pack a ton of activity into one day but there is more than enough to keep you busy in this city for 3 days.
First up was the Nanjing City Wall. This wall acts as one of the best kept records of the Ming Dynasty; each brick is inscribed with the name of the official responsible for quality control as well as the city of origin. If your name was on a brick deemed to be of poor quality it was punishable by death 😵
You can honestly walk along the city wall for hours just taking in the sights of the city.
Next I checked out Usnisa Palace, a 9-floor Buddhist temple with six of the floors being underground (it felt like I’d taken a million escalators by the time I finally reached the bottom!) Only 3 sections of the temple are open to the public, but they are all absolutely stunning and definitely worth a visit.
For the last part of my trip I took a boat ride along the QinHuai river. Since this was at night, the lights were gorgeous reflecting on the water. On top of the beautiful lights, there were even dance performances throughout the route of the boat trip!
More things to do in Nanjing include the Nanjing Museum and the Nanjing Massacre Museum if you’re interested in learning more about the city’s history and culture. If you’re a foodie like me, you might want to stroll through the Confucius Temple area and snack your way around it 😉
Hands down one of my favorite cities in China.

In the springtime of March, one descends to the south of the Yangtze River, to the city walls of Nanjing, Xuanwu Lake, and the Jiming Temple
Xuanwu Lake
Ming City Wall Terrace Scenic Area] ¥30 Ctrip 27 yuan
8:30-17:00
Turn left out of the temple and you will see the city gate. Pass through the gate and you will find the entrance to the city wall, where student ID and senior citizen cards get half price.
First, head towards the Taipingmen section of the wall (upwards), where there is the best spot to take photos of the temple and the Zifeng Tower.
If the time is early, it is recommended to first go around Xuanwu Lake, and then go up to the city wall in the evening when it's not too hot and the scenery is even more beautiful.
Xuanwu Lake] Free 6:00-22:00
The entrance to Xuanwu Lake is also next to the city gate, marked with a Xuanwu Lake 4A scenic area sign, divided into five continents: Huanzhou, Yingzhou, Lingzhou, Liangzhou, and Cuizhou.
Going straight ahead is the sightseeing car starting station at Jiefangmen, turning left through the stone bridge is the boat ticket office, electric boats with 4 seats ¥140/hour, 6 seats 160/hour, and on good weather days, there will be countless duck boats.
Sightseeing car stops: Jiefangmen-Lingzhou-Yingzhou-Liangzhou-Cuizhou-Huanzhou one-stop tour ¥30, no stops in between, return to the starting station after the tour, with commentary throughout the journey, taking about 20 minutes to go around. If you want to explore in detail, there is also a sightseeing car for ¥10 per stop that you can take.
SoothingIndulgenceByMoore Night tour of the most beautiful Tai City
Nanjing City Wall, the Tai City scenic area recommended by the locals.
Type of activity: Viewing the night scene
The Nanjing Ming City Wall is not only the largest ancient city wall still existing in our country, but also the most intact and longest ancient city wall in the world today. It is a place that I had been looking forward to visiting on this trip to Jinling.
Just as the Medicine Buddha Pagoda at the ancient Jiming Temple was lit up, I chose to take a night tour of the Tai City Wall, which is highly recommended by the locals: located between Jiming Temple and Xuanwu Lake, from the city wall you can overlook Jiming Temple, Zifeng Tower, and it is said that you can also see Purple Mountain and Jiuhua Mountain.
There is a fee to go up the city wall. This is to better protect the cultural relics and improve the quality of tourist services.
The city wall scenic area regularly opens up for 'night tours', and I took one at the end of March during the cherry blossom season. Although there are many internet-famous night scene installations on the city wall, without the lighting of the Medicine Buddha Pagoda, the attraction is not very strong. Therefore, going up the city wall during the day can actually capture more beautiful scenery.
Nanjing's city wall has weathered 650 years of wind and rain
The city wall, an outline of an ancient city, represents the "face" of the city in a certain sense; "The city gate is several zhang high, thirty-six zhang high. Riding a white horse, carrying a sword, walk under the city gate once." This nursery rhyme, well-known to the people of Nanjing, doesn't it always fill you with affection when you hear it? It is a symbol of Nanjing's culture, as well as a nostalgia deep in the hearts of Nanjing's people. The Nanjing city wall has endured more than 650 years of vicissitudes, and throughout these long years, the capital city wall of the Ming Dynasty, though it has seen many changes, still preserves 25.1 kilometers of its wall and city gates, making it the longest existing ancient city wall in the world. It is precisely its existence that gives Nanjing a unique and unparalleled character. The Ming city wall is an important business card of Nanjing, a symbol of the city, and also a place where the emotions of the people of Nanjing reside; walking on the greenway of the city wall, one can see the scenery of the Qinhuai River; boating on the Qinhuai River, the city wall is in sight. The urban cultural landscape of "one city, one river, the city and water blending together" is full of surprises everywhere. The rich historical and cultural resources have shaped Nanjing's unique temperament and heritage, giving it a distinct identity in the process of modernization where thousands of cities look the same.
Attraction level: National 5A-level Tourist Attraction (Zhonghua Gate)
Construction period: From the Yuan Dynasty to the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty
Ticket price: Free (some attractions charge)
Nanjing City Wall Scenic Area
The Nanjing Ming City Wall is a symbol and landmark of Zhu Yuanzhang's establishment of his capital in Nanjing. It was built over 28 years from 1366 to 1393, mobilizing over a million people. The city of Ming Nanjing consisted of four layers of walls: the Imperial Palace Wall, the Imperial City Wall, the Capital City Wall, and the outer city wall, along with the moats that protected each wall. Of these, only the Capital City Wall was 35 kilometers long, making it the world's largest brick and stone structure of its kind. For over 600 years, this extraordinary city wall has remained the world's foremost, with 25 kilometers of its original structure still standing. Nanjing City Wall

Magnolias outside Nanjing city are stunningly beautiful!
Magnolias outside the Nanjing city wall are in bloom 😍! They are so beautiful that they bring tears to your eyes 😭!
A few days ago, the beautiful scene I captured here blew up my social circle 🎉, everyone was asking me where I took the photo from 📷!
Compared to the crowded Linggu Temple 👨👩👧👦, there are really few people around these magnolias under the Hanzhong Gate city wall 🤷, you can take photos however you want 🤳!
📅 March 16th was the day when the flowers were at their most beautiful 👍, I feel like this year's magnolias are rarely blooming so well 🤩! I guess they can still be enjoyed for another 2 or 3 days 😜~
The last two photos are unfiltered real shots from a smartphone 🤳, aren't they incredibly beautiful 😍!

Climb the Nanjing City Wall and enjoy the scenery of Jinling
The Nanjing City Wall can mainly be entered from the following gates for sightseeing:
1-Shence Gate: Also known as 'Peace Gate', it is one of the thirteen city gates of the Nanjing Ming Dynasty imperial city wall. The existing Shence Gate barbican is the only external barbican of the Nanjing City Wall, with extremely high historical value.
2-Xuanwu Gate: Located on the west side of Xuanwu Lake, the city wall winds southward along the lake. Here, one can admire the beautiful lake and mountain scenery as well as the majestic grandeur of the city wall. This is a classic section!
3-Jiefang Gate: Located near Jiming Temple Road, it offers a distant view of the verdant Longpan reflected in Zhongshan, and a close view of the swaying shadows of the Jiming Temple pagoda.
4-Zhonghua Gate: The southern gate of the Nanjing City Wall, it is one of the thirteen city gates of the Nanjing Ming Dynasty imperial city wall. It is rumored that the Zhonghua Gate barbican was built on the foundation of Shen Wansan's treasure basin, and it has extremely high historical and cultural value.

First Impression of Nanjing City Wall
#freehotelstay
Despite being huge structrure of 21 kilometers long and being around since Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) it also seemed fragile and in need of protection. The development of surrounding city seems to swallow this historical masterpiece which is a cradle of life for much older part of the city then anything that is happening outside of its surrounding walls. Luckily the remaining wall, out of original 35 kilometers in lenght, is uder state protection and seems to be safe from further deterioration.

Nanjing Tourism | Climb the Ming City Wall, look left to the Jiming Temple and right to the Xuanwu Lake
Coming to Nanjing for tourism, climbing the Ming City Wall is a must-see attraction.
There are 48 city gates, and the one I personally recommend the most is the Liberation Gate City Wall.
This is the longest, best preserved, and tallest section of the existing Nanjing City Wall.
To the left is the Jiming Temple and the Museum of Ancient Biology.
To the right is Xuanwu Lake, and you can see the Purple Mountain when the weather is good.
It is a truly open view where you can enjoy the lake and mountain scenery.
-
🎫: 20 yuan
Transportation: Adjacent to the Jiming Temple of Metro Line 3/4.
Nearby attractions: Jiming Temple, Xuanwu Lake, Museum of Ancient Biology.
-
This place is not close to any commercial area.
The nearest is the Litchi Square 1km away.
So you can bring some food for the trip.
If you want to find a coffee shop nearby to rest,
you can go to the second floor of the Museum of Ancient Biology - Science Cafe.
This is also the best spot to view the Jiming Temple.
If you want to eat,
you can go to the vegetarian restaurant of the Jiming Temple.
Beyond expectation
If your traveling to Nanjing don't miss this Logo Wall its worth it. We went there during night time aside from less crowded and during night you have time to take loads of pictures as you wish that no one is pressuring you to smile and whatsoever🤭. After the pictorial you can enjoy the vibes of the lake and take a walk and breath.. #wintertravels #citytravel #2024
Nanjing~ Ming City Wall
The Nanjing Ming City Wall was built in the Ming Dynasty, started in 1366 and completed in the late Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty. It took 20 years to build and is the world's largest city wall. It forms a pattern of four city walls from the inside to the outside: the imperial city, the palace city, the capital city, and the outer city. It does not follow the old system of taking a square or rectangle for the ancient capital, with unique design ideas, exquisite construction techniques, and grand scale. It winds and lingers for 35.3 kilometers among the beautiful mountains and waters of Nanjing, and the outer wall of the Nanjing Ming City Wall is even more than 60 kilometers. The Nanjing Ming City Wall is not only the largest city wall in China, but also the largest city wall in the world, and it has been selected as the world's largest city wall by the World Record Association. The Nanjing Ming City Wall 'takes advantage of the natural conditions', is built by the mountains and waters, is a model of the combination of Chinese ritual system and nature, is an outstanding representative of ancient capital construction, and is a common cultural heritage of mankind. In 1988, the Nanjing Ming City Wall was confirmed as a national key cultural relics protection unit. In November 2012, it was included in the Chinese application for the World Heritage List as part of the 'Ming and Qing City Walls' project.
Jiangsu·Nanjing·Xuanwu Lake·City Wall
Xuanwu Lake is open for free, with extremely beautiful scenery, suitable for leisurely walks and sightseeing. The Nanjing Ming City Wall includes the palace city, imperial city, capital city, and outer city wall of the Ming Dynasty's capital Yingtianfu (Nanjing), which is the longest, largest, and best-preserved ancient city wall in the world. It's worth a visit to witness history, and it's open for free.
Nanjing City Wall
Built during the Ming Dynasty, the Nanjing City Wall was used to protect the old capital of China. You can walk along the wall for only a 20-yuan entrance fee. The view of the lake from the wall is magnificent. The length of the wall is extensive; it's about 37 miles. I went onto the wall at the Xuanwu Lake location, but there are other entries.

The City Wall of Nanjing, China 🇨🇳
First time visiting Nanjing for the weekend and I’m glad I was able to witness this very significant wall that has a lot of history in it. One of China’s ancient architecture, key historical and cultural remains of Ming Dynasty back in 1386. #nanjing #citywall #mingdynasty #china

Nanjing City Wall!
#wall #nanjing #citywall
I walked along the old door eastward and walked to the end. It was a wall. Although the Lantern Festival had passed, I found the figure of the lantern on the wall of the Ming Dynasty. I couldnt help but curiosity. I bought the ticket on the wall, but it was very good luck. The discovery of another new world of Nanjing City, Lantern, Yunjin and other most traditional elements, encountering the fashion light show, high-tech city wall projection, let the whole of Nanjing lively!
Nanjing Ming is the world's longest, largest and best preserved ancient city, now intact for 25.1 kilometers. The city wall fare is 30 yuan, and the student price is 15 yuan.
is a brickstone with a sense of history. It has a thousand turns and marks the traces of the years. Real monuments don't always need to be deliberately carved, and the brick walls of the piece show the temperament of the years.
Nanjing's Ming City Wall is different from most of the city walls. It is built by mountains and rivers. In addition to the majesty of the city walls, there is another tenderness. Standing on the wall overlooking the distance, one side is the rolling cherry blossoms. On one side is the Xuanwu Lake in the sky. The dry branches of the lake that have not yet sprouted and the birds that are jumping in the middle of the lake have made a painting.
Walk along the city wall and caress the traces of this history. On both sides are the branches that have just sent new hair. This new and old picture can not help but feel the emotions. The history is vast. The former military fortress has become a tourist. Sightseeing places, and how the future will develop, no one will know, we are just a drop in the ocean.
Walking on the wall, looking at the scenery along the Xuanwu Lake, together with the old friends, don't think about other things, this day Nanjing is also very good.
