The wonders of Yunnan- Flower Market, Kunming
My partner and I stumbled across this hidden gem by accident. We got off at the wrong subway station, and found this massive flower market.
The subway is right next to the market, so it is easily accessible.
The market sells beautiful and fresh flowers from all over the world. I even found some wild flowers from my country (RSA). They sell fresh cut garden flowers, potted flowers, potted plants, bonsai's, succulents, seeds etc etc. You can find any type of flower or plant at this market, and the prices are incredibly low. Entrance to the market is free.
I glad we had to fly out of Kunming, or I might have spent way too much on plants and flowers there😅. It's a lovely place.

Kunming Dounan Flower Market, you can't finish exploring it!! You just can't finish
Dounan Flower Market is huge,
one floor is for fresh flowers and green plants,
the second floor is for succulents and bead strings.
Fresh flowers are very cheap, 10 yuan for 3 bunches is common, if you're short on time it's recommended to only visit the main venue
-
🌟If you have more time after visiting the main venue, you can go to the peripheral areas such as the carnation trading area, sunflower area, rose area, hydrangea pavilion, and the nearby flower shops to take a look
-
🌟Especially for plants, if you want to buy uncommon local floral materials, go to the foliage material area, which has local seasonal floral and fruit materials, as well as some imported floral materials, very beautiful
-
📍Search for 'China Kunming Dounan Flower Market' in your navigation app
✅Transportation
🚇Take the subway line 4 to Jingui Street Station, exit B, and walk 200 meters to get there
🚗Navigate to 'Kunming Huadu Ocean World', there is an underground parking lot
-
✅Dounan Flower Market🕐
9:00-18:00 (retail)
20:30-02:00 (wholesale)
-
💐For tourists visiting Dounan Flower Market, these two time slots are recommended
-
👉7:00-12:00 (morning market): In front of the Ocean Pavilion, during this time a lot of floral materials are brought directly from the farms, with a wide variety, and you can buy them for just a few yuan
👉After 5:30 (evening market): From around 5 or 6 o'clock to 8 o'clock, during this time the variety and quality of floral materials are good, the only downside is that the scene is quite chaotic, with many tricycles pulling fresh flowers.
-
⚠️Please note: The main venue closes at 7:30 pm for 1 hour, and reopens after 8:30 pm, this one-hour closure is limited to inside the market, the periphery is not affected
-
✅Mailing
There is SF Express inside the market, starting from 20💰. For mailed flowers, don't choose those that are too open, and if you don't have many flowers, you can take them directly on the plane
-
🍲Food
There is a food city inside the Dounan Market, a whole street full of food and snacks
-
🛅3 luggage storage points
📍Navigate to 'Flower Art Materials Wholesale Pavilion', the pavilion's storage point. It's about a 10-minute walk from the subway station, 5💰 per item, but only until 5 pm
📍Navigate to 'Dounan Flower Market Tourist Center', take the escalator to the second floor, there are lockers on the right side of the entrance, with large, medium, and small sizes, the large one can fit a 26-inch suitcase, the first 8 hours of storage costs 10💰 (large size 15💰), and every additional 60 minutes costs 5💰
📍Lockers next to Jingui Street subway station, medium size 10💰, large 15💰
-
✅Nearby attractions
👉Wangguan Wetland Park: Suitable for watching the sunset and playing in the water, there is a beach
👉Dounan Wetland Park: During July and August, you can take photos of hydrangeas here
-
✅Tips:
👉Don't get off at Dounan subway station, otherwise, you'll have to walk an extra 1km
👉If you want to visit the succulent area on the second floor, try to go before 5 or 6 pm, as many shops on the second floor are not open after 7 pm
👉During the day, there are relatively fewer people in the flower market, and the flowers are cheaper, but not very fresh
👉After 8:30 pm, the flowers are fresher, but there are also more people
👉When buying flowers, remember to ask more and bargain, even though it's cheap, don't be shy, there is still room for negotiation

Practical Travel Advice for You Coming to Kunming in April
🍃 To start, Kunming's Jacaranda trees are about to make a brilliant appearance again, with the blooming season lasting the entire month of April. Recommended 3 best spots: Jiaochang Middle Road, Panlong River, and Spring City Road.
🍃 Although Yunnan is a great tourist province, note: Kunming is not strictly a tourist city. The local attractions include Dian Lake, Golden Temple, Yunnan University, and the Stone Forest, but Kunming is the best transit hub with many discounted flights, making it convenient to travel to Lijiang, Xishuangbanna, Dali, Tengchong, and Shangri-La.
🍃 When in Kunming, you must visit the local markets, especially in spring when there are many seasonal vegetables, and the fruits in Kunming are really cheap. You can go to small markets often frequented by locals, such as Wuli Market.
🍃 In Kunming, a 'jin' usually refers to a kilogram, so it's really a lot cheaper than other places, even cheaper than Xishuangbanna.
🍃 No matter what, don't miss the Zhuanxin Farmers' Market, where you can find all kinds of snacks and fruits. Make sure to go there on an empty stomach.
🍃 Although Kunming is known for its spring-like weather all year round, it gets cold as soon as it rains, so even in summer, bring a thicker coat.
🍃 The ultraviolet rays in Kunming are very, very strong, so be sure to pay attention to sun protection!
🍃 Most of Kunming's attractions are distributed within the inner ring: Yunnan University, Green Lake Park, Zhuanxin Farmers' Market, Dian Lake, and Dounan Flower Market.
🍃 The night view of Kunming from Changchong Mountain is really beautiful, and you should definitely go see it if you have time.
🍃 If you want to go to the Stone Forest, there are buses from Kunming Airport to the Stone Forest. You can go to the Stone Forest first and then return to Kunming city, or do it the other way around, going directly to the airport from the Stone Forest.
🍃 The seagulls at Dian Lake can only be seen in winter, usually from November to March. Dian Lake is crowded and the water is not very clean, so Fuxian Lake, a 2-hour drive away, is more recommended.
🍃 Green Lake Park in Kunming, you can also see seagulls in winter, and besides that, it's a rather common park.
🍃 Nanping Road is just a very commercial, ordinary, and common city pedestrian street.
🍃 If you have more time, Kunming is just a transit point. You can travel from Kunming to Xishuangbanna to Pu'er to Yuxi and back to Kunming. Or from Kunming to Dali to Lijiang to Shangri-La and back to Kunming, which is expected to take about 6 days. If you have 2/3 days, you can go to places like Jianshui, Fuxian Lake, and Mile.
🍃 It is recommended to go to Dounan Flower Market after 9 pm, when the market is at its liveliest and the prices are unimaginably low.
🍃 Do not go to the Miniature Theme Park and Journey to the West Cave!
🍃 As for accommodation, there are more guesthouses in Guandu District, so it's cheaper and also convenient for travel. Panlong District and Wuhua District have more brand hotels due to their proximity to the city center. Personal strong recommendation: Kunming Craftsman's House, it's really inconvenient and a bit old, but for 200 yuan, you get the quality of a thousand yuan stay, the value for money is really high!

No one can leave Kunming empty-handed
As the largest flower market in Asia and a AAA-rated scenic spot, I really recommend all flower lovers to take a stroll in the Dounan Flower Market!!
Without further ado, let's get straight to the point!
Transportation: Just take the Subway Line 4 to Jingui Street Station (Exit B)
The subway is very convenient, just a 300-meter walk from the exit!
Attention!!!
For navigation search: Dounan Flower Wholesale Supermarket or Jingui Street Subway Station (exit from Exit B)
Do not directly search for Dounan Flower Market in the navigation, otherwise, you will have to walk nearly 1KM from Dounan Subway Station
Visiting the flower market at night, the flowers are fresh and of good quality, mainly for wholesale, but you can also buy single items. During the day, there are more varieties of flowers, cheaper, but the quality is not so good. You can choose according to your needs.
I think it's quite fun for individual visitors to check in other places in the morning and take a tour of the Dounan Flower Market in the afternoon. If you're tired of walking, you can also go to the nearby food street to buy some snacks.
Dounan Flower Market:
The first floor of the flower market is basically fresh flowers, the second floor is succulents, and the third floor is a bit like the Yiwu small commodity market, which feels newly opened and is not as lively as the two floors below, so you don't need to go up
Food Street Navigation: Flower Street Flower Champion, a street full of food and snacks
Tips for beginners in choosing flowers:
1. The best time to visit the flower market is after 6 pm or just wait for the night market starting at 8:40 pm, which is the time for face-to-face transactions of fresh cut flowers, with the most variety and the liveliest atmosphere.
2. When choosing fresh flowers, look at whether the root is fresh, do not buy if it's not; check if the flower head is drooping, do not buy if it is; shake the flower head downwards to see if petals fall off, do not buy if many petals fall off, indicating that the flower is not fresh.
3. The prices shouted for fresh flowers vary a lot, so the first step when you arrive at the Dounan Flower Market is to stroll around and look first, do not buy immediately as soon as you enter, as it's also tiring to carry them around. I suggest you take a tour first to get an idea of the market price, so you won't have regrets.

You don't even need to buy flowers when you come to Dounan Flower Market!!!
Coming to Kunming, you must visit Dounan Flower Market📍
It's the largest fresh flower trading market in Asia!! We were only on the first floor and were already amazed! It's so wonderful, which girl doesn't like flowers😲
All kinds of varieties are really cheap, but the shipping cost to other places will be expensive👀
As we casually strolled around, there were many flowers discarded by the vendors on the ground. But please, they are all so fresh, it's such a pity to throw them away!
Just pick some up and take pictures, even if you don't buy anything, just wandering around here will make you feel better💕

The romance of Kunming: sunrise, sunset, and flowers
Sunrise location: Zhou Peiyuan's former residence
Walk along the path of deciduous pines in the park to the lakeside. The morning glow spreads bit by bit on the horizon, and the sun rises from the clouds. Water birds wake up from the dark sky.
Sunset location: Dounan Wetland
Compared to Haigeng Park, Dounan Wetland has fewer people and a wider view.
The golden clouds and the reddish sky, watching the sunset, watching the moon rise, never get tired of it.
Flowers: Dounan Flower Market
After watching the sunset, you can take a taxi directly to the flower market, which takes about ten minutes.
The flower market has potted flowers during the day, and fresh cut flowers are available at night. Buying them is a bargain.
Entering Dounan Flower Market, you will at least take away a spring.

Girls who travel alone, come and take a look at these nine cities
Recommended 9 cities suitable for girls to travel alone❗️❗️Girls who travel alone👧 are so cool! Free and romantic~
On the premise of ensuring their own safety, I recommend the following nine cities🌉 suitable for girls to travel alone
Zhuhai🌴
As a livable city in Guangdong, Zhuhai does not have as high consumption as Shenzhen and as many crowds as Guangzhou. Walking along the seaside at night and feeling the fresh air and beautiful scenery is really comfortable! Moreover, Zhuhai's greening is very good, and there are many delicious foods. If you get your documents in advance, you can also go to the shopping paradise Hong Kong and Macau🎉
Chengdu🐼
This is a slow-paced small city, it's super comfortable for a girl to wander around and eat! Be sure to go to the Panda Base to see the cute pandas💕
Nanjing🏯
A famous historical and cultural city, the more you read, the more you will like it, and I prefer to call it Jinling. Walk into the traces of history and feel the charm of this city🕍
Lhasa🏔
The office of the gods in the world, the gathering place of world religions, where there are temples every five steps and temples every ten steps. Bai Yansong once said that you should go to this city at least once in your life. Feel the power of faith and experience peace and harmony🙏
Chizhou🌿
A small and beautiful city in the Yangtze River Delta, you must go to Jiuhua Mountain, the dojo of the Earth Store Bodhisattva, one of the four famous Buddhist mountains. It is only a one and a half hour high-speed rail ride from Nanjing. Feel the majesty of nature and the mystery of religion🏞
Kunming🌸
Mostly as a transit city to Yunnan, but this city is also good for strolling. Ride a bicycle to visit Dianchi Lake, feed seagulls, and you can go to Dounan Flower Market for zero-cost shopping at night. No girl can refuse beautiful and free fresh flowers. Enjoy the bath of sunshine and floral fragrance☀
Xi'an
China has clothes🌹 This is a paradise for Hanfu lovers. Wearing Hanfu to tour Xi'an, watching a 'Chang Hen Ge', reproduces the love story of Tang Xuanzong and Yang Guifei in Huaqing Palace 1300 years ago. Travel through time and space, feel the romance and beauty of ancient times🎭
Hangzhou🌊
The dreamy and delicate Jiangnan water town city, Wu Yiruan language, the slow life of small bridges, flowing water and people. Walk by the West Lake, enjoy the lake and mountain scenery, and taste the unique charm of Jiangnan🍃
Hunchun❄
The small border city at the junction of the three northeastern countries, the earliest place in the country where you can see the sunrise. The cost of living here is low and there are many special delicacies! Come in winter to feel the charm of the ice and snow world, and in summer you can taste delicious Northeastern cuisine🍲
