Huaxi Yelang Valley Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
The travel to Guiyang is heart-shaking with its giant array of bizarre rocks and the mystery of rugged stones and broken walls
🗿 Take note: This is the reason I came to Guiyang. In fact, before this trip, the reason why I chose Guiyang, apart from the cuisine, was that Yelang Valley really was a place I longed to visit, to experience the shock. So, the next morning, the first stop we made was to Yelang Valley.
—————————
Name: Huaxi Yelang Valley
Address: Intersection of Siyang Road and Huayan Road, Huaxi District, Guiyang City, Guizhou Province
Open: 08:30-19:00, no entry after 18:00
Ticket: 20 yuan
—————————
🗿 Walking into Yelang Valley, I originally thought it was an ancient village with some folk characteristics and rugged stone statues, but as I walked further in, passing through the winding paths and into the suddenly clear valley beside the mountains, my goodness! It was stunning, so shocking!
🌟 Shocking
Stepping into Yelang Valley, the first sight is shocking. Walking down the stone steps into the valley, surrounded by mountains, stand the astonishing stone statues. Walking among them, every direction offers a finely carved, shocking scene, and the area is vast, visually magnificent, breathtaking.
🌟 Bizarre
The stone statues have a bizarre tribal texture, as if they have been gone for many years. The bizarre totem-like images have an indescribable sense of wonder. Regarding these bizarre stone statues, I can't say what they mean, I only know that their strangeness is fascinating.
🌟 Mysterious
This place seems like an ancient, lost mysterious tribe. A winding river stretches across the mysterious valley, as if it's a long-standing relic of civilization. Standing in this valley, looking up, it feels like being transported to a place never reached before.
🌟 Artistic
Rugged paths, city walls, castles, stone bridges, this is a natural open-air art gallery, where each stone sculpture is exquisitely detailed and unique. The so-called 'Yelang Valley' is the Yelang imagined by artists, a creation of twenty years, presented before the world.
🗿 This is undoubtedly one of the most impressive attractions I have visited recently. Laughter, anger, eeriness, horror, all kinds of stone statues converge in this mysterious world, making it a great photo spot. The ticket is also cheap, worth a visit, and makes the trip worthwhile.
Why not take a spontaneous trip?
Look here if you've heard of the story of 'Yelang thinks too highly of itself'! 🌈 The ancient Yelang Kingdom, which emerged during the Qin and Han Dynasties over two thousand years ago, was as famous as the ancient Loulan and Quelan Kingdoms, and was renowned all over the world at that time.
🌈 This ecological garden, which combines mountains, water, forests, caves and other natural landscapes, and includes cultural landscapes such as 'ancient barracks', 'bird-loving garden', and 'slate houses', is located in the small canyon at the foot of Doupeng Mountain in Huaxi University Town, Guian New District. It was completed by Song Peilun, a famous painter in Guiyang, with unique conception and creativity.
📍Location:
Yelang Valley Karst Ecological Park, Huaxi District, Guiyang City, Guizhou Province
🚕Transportation:
It is recommended to drive there, which is more convenient.
💡Practical tips:
The whole scenic area is not large, mainly built around a river with numerous stone statues on both sides. It takes about 2 hours to visit. There are not many places to eat around, so it is recommended to bring some snacks.
Come to Guiyang | Worth exploring the mysterious ancient country!
📍Address: Yelang Valley Scenic Area, Huaxi District, Guiyang
🎫Ticket: 20 yuan (unlimited time)
🚗Transportation: 40 minutes by taxi in downtown Guiyang.
🎈Playtime: about 2 hours
📷Great for taking photos! An Indian style would be awesome~
1 person, 20 years, forging a mysterious tribe.
"The arrogance of Yelang" is a well-known story, appearing in the Yelang ancient country more than two thousand years ago during the Qin and Han dynasties, alongside the ancient Loulan and ancient Qiuci countries, flourishing for a time and renowned throughout the world. Crossing through the mysterious tunnels of history, the charm of Yelang culture is endless. In a Yelang valley in Guizhou, modern imagination of ancient Yelang is fully integrated.
Using the phrase "unknown to the world" to describe Nightingale Valley is very appropriate. Before entering the scenic area, a forest blocks out the noise from the city. Looking around, all you see are trees, but once you pass through the Masson pine forest, you discover a hidden paradise. The canyon is long and deep, like a giant tear in the earth. Walking along the valley floor, you'll come across small bridges and flowing water, making for a pleasant journey. Looking up from below, the white clouds are far away, and the towering cliffs are breathtaking!
Here is the Nightman under the command of Song Peilun, an artist who has returned from traveling in America. When living in the United States, Song Peilun created "Nightman Castle, Nightman Totem, Nightman Masks", and in China, he also created large-scale Nightman national works such as "Devil City, Nightman Valley", as well as many artworks related to Nightman culture. Nightman Valley is Song Peilun's masterpiece among the green mountains and clear waters.
Huaxi Yelang Valley, finding a life partner
Getting There - a Didi is around 45 minutes from Guiyang city center and takes up to 40 minutes. The outside is clearly identifiable because you can already see columns of stone heads lining up.
A ticket will cost around 65rmb.
Attractions - This is, as they like to call it "the story of stone", these big facial pillars all lined up in rows are in itself an attraction, there's also a castle you can gaze upon and enjoy the waterway dividing them.
Food & Restaurants - there are some small vendors inside and out selling water, drinks and small snacks.
Shopping - This is the only place I picked up a souvenir, as the stone head shapes are so unique.

Jiaxiu Tower Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Jiaxiulou, witness to the prosperity of Guiyang's history!
Jiaxiulou
Jiaxiulou was built during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, and "Jiaxiu" means "outstanding scholars". Currently, Jiaxiulou is designated as the sixth batch of national key cultural relics protection units by the State Council as part of the "Wenchang Pavilion, Hehe and Jiaxiulou", and has become a must-visit attraction for tourists in Guiyang.
Jiaxiulou is divided into three parts: Fuyu Bridge, Jiaxiulou, and Cuiwei Garden, which are ancient and elegant architectural complexes. With the towering buildings of the city, the combination of ancient and modern styles echoes each other, making people sigh with emotion for the vicissitudes of history.
Visit Jiaxiu Tower around 4pm, and if you're lucky, you can see the fiery clouds. Wander around and grab some food, and when night falls, take a stroll through the bustling night market streets to see the prosperity fade away.
Address
Guizhou Province, Nanning District, Xinhua Road, Cuiwei Lane, No. 8.
Transportation
Take bus routes 15, 48, or 305 and get off at "Jiaxiulou" stop. Parking nearby is inconvenient, so it is recommended to take a taxi or public transportation.
Ticket
Free admission
Business hours
All-day opening (the interior of Jiaxiulou and the buildings inside Cuiwei Garden are open from 09:00 to 17:00, closed on Mondays, and entry to the garden stops at 16:30).
Guiyang - hills, forests and monkeys.
Resting at about 1200 m altitude, Guiyang is a reasonably cold city in winter for that far south. What is striking about it, is the sheer amount of green the city incorporates. It does not therefore, come as a surprise, that its main sights are actually parks and forests and animals living there. We chose to stay in the center, near where the two metro lines cross. It was a solid location, but a bit further south, closer to the Nanming river, would have been optimal. If budget is not a consideration for you booking one of the upscale hotels with a view of the river and the Jiaxiu pavilion is a great option. Taking an evening stroll along the river was pleasant, Jiaxiu pavilion and especially the bridge it sits on have a really authentic feel to it. Further west down the river there are really nice murals that combined with some 'projector magic' tell really nice stories at night. Guiyang is also known as a liquor producer, so if you spot some buildings reminding you of liquor bottles it is not your imagination. What I found a bit infuriating about the city center is how restricted its streets and pavements feel. Very rarely will a street let you cross without shoving you down to a shabby looking underpass with no working escalator. While this works great for the traffic safety, it does make a casual stroll around the city quite annoying.
But, where the Guiyang really shines and why it should be visited are its parks and forests.
To start with QianLing Mountain Park was probably the best place we went to in Guiyang. A large centrally located park in the middle of the city has everything you would want from a park. Hills, forests, small lakes, temples, great views, a cable car for those less willing to hike, a small zoo and of course the monkeys. A lot of monkeys. A lot of always hungry monkeys. While I found them great and highly entertaining in their attempts to steal and rob you of anything that can count as food, some precaution might be in order. Keep your backpacks firmly zipped, your phone unexposed and in general do not show any food unless you are willing to have it taken from you.
Apart from QianLing, Guiyang's aptly named forest park is another large park. I am actually not sure if there is an official entrance to this large patch of forest. I entered by a muddy road bypassing a construction site and exited on the other side through someone's vegetable farm. Still, the actual forest is really nice and large and there is a Red cross memorial for those interested in Wartime history.
To sum up, we liked Guiyang, it felt rather different than most big cities. Really green, the city itself a bit rundown, but also laid back.

Daytrip to Jiaxiu pavilion... ❤️
Jiaxiu pavilion heritage landscape area is located in the mother river of Guiyang, the Nanming river fishing bay on the South of Gui mountain. Surrounded by the large river, Jiaxiu pavilion got a quite number of attractions around it namely the Fuyu bridge, International Buddhist temple, Cui Wei garden, Ji Hong bridge, Temple of Marquis among the few. These attractions and scenic spots all reflect the traditional Chinesr cultire of "harmony between man and nature" thought.
Built in the 26th year of Wanli period of Ming dynasty (1598), Jiaxiu is so rich in history and it is one of the top ten buildings in the whole of China, it witnessed the changes of times and narrated about the cultural heritage. Jiaxiu pavilion stood for 400 years and more and became to a symbol of the city life in Guiyang.

Jiaxu Pavilion- History at night 🌙
Situated in the middle of bustling Guiyang, on its own little island in the Nanming River, with a lush park on one bank and trendy bars and restaurants on the other, is a slice of Ming dynasty history. The Jiaxu Pavillion dates back to 1598 and it has been restored a number of times in the following dynasties.
It is worth exploring during the day, however, as night approaches and the temperature drops the area becomes alive as both locals and tourists descend upon this attraction.
The whole structure and the adjacent walkways are lit up beautifully and it is perfect for some holiday snapshots.
Try some of the freshly squeezed orange juice plied by vendors on the bridge to the pavilion.

Qianling Mountain Park
In this park you can see hundreds of monkeys roaming around 🐒 Climbing the hills feel like little adventurous because if the monkeys find out any food items in our hands or bags they will snach it. We had a couple of experience. So in the park especially near the monkeys don't take out any food items.
You can use the ropeway 🚠 if you don't want to climb the hill.
There is one temple at the top of the Hill it says that praying here will make your wishes come true. There is also a small zoo inside. The area is very big and it has boat ride, rollercoaster type ride and other activities. But all are in different areas.

The Forest wetlands of Shilihetan, Huaxi
The Forest Wetlands is an artificially planted forest in which trees have taken root in shallow beaches or beside waterside islets. Rippling waters lap the trees and snake between their
trunks. These forest wetlands truly live up to their name.
Wetlands are areas where water covers the soil, or is present either at or near the surface of the soil all year or for varying periods of time during the year, including during the growing season. Water saturation (hydrology) largely determines how the soil develops and the types of plant and animal communities living in and on the soil. Wetlands may support both aquatic and terrestrial species. The prolonged presence of water creates conditions that favor the growth of specially adapted plants (hydrophytes) and promote the development of characteristic wetland (hydric) soils thus Shilihetan has a lot of forests due to the favorable conditions of the soil and ecological environment.

Short trip to the wall dedicated to New China
There is a wall inside Shilihetan that’s dedicated to New China. It is a description of how new China is like and was built to celebrate and have pride on what China’s has achieved in terms of economical, social, and cultural development. Below is what the poem (inscription) says;
New China has become a dish of beans. During the various periods of the development and social construction of the short-term economic development of the prefecture, the king class and the broad masses of the working people have been constantly drinking and growing.
A shining group - model workers. With a high sense of responsibility of the master, Che Yue's labor creation, and selfless splicing of the staff, he wrote a song of songs. The weeping labor hymn was cast "Love one's job, create one's own story, work hard and save one's life, be brave in innovation, be famous and rich along the river, and offer Ganzi spring. The great model worker
