Compared to Hongcun, I have a greater fondness for this ancient Huizhou city that has stood for a thousand years

Tang Xianzu's phrase 'In a place where one's obsession ends, there are no dreams of Huizhou' has undoubtedly left countless people yearning in their souls and dreams. Yet, as one of the four great ancient cities, the presence of Huizhou ancient city seems somewhat weak. Its charm appears to be overshadowed by attractions such as the Yellow Mountains, Hongcun, and Xidi. Tour Route Huizhou History Museum - Nanqiao Tower - Huizhou Government Office - Ancient City Wall - Xu Guo Stone Archway - Hui Garden - Doushan Street - Yuliang Ancient Town (Yuliang Street, Yuliang Dam) Key Spots to Visit Huizhou History Museum To the right of the entrance to the ancient city is a two-story museum that provides a detailed introduction to the history of Huizhou. Visiting the museum before strolling through the ancient city will give you a greater sense of immersion. Huizhou Government Office The Huizhou Government Office, built at the end of the Yuan Dynasty and the beginning of the Ming Dynasty. During the Sui Dynasty's Yining period (617) Xu Guo Stone Archway, also known as the Grand Scholar's Archway, erected during the Wanli era of the Ming Dynasty, is the only eight-legged archway in China and is hailed as the 'Arc de Triomphe of the East'. Hui Garden To the north of the stone archway, there are attractions such as Renhe Building, the ancient opera stage, and Yudai Bridge. With its ancient charm, it is a great spot for Hanfu photography. Doushan Street For those interested in Hui-style architecture, this is a must-visit. A thousand-year-old ancient street that is 300 meters long, it features the Hui-style Wang family residence, Yang family courtyard, ancient private school Xu family hall, Pan family courtyard, and more. It was a gathering place for ancient Hui merchants, comparable to a Huizhou architectural museum. Zhongshan Lane This lane is the highest in the ancient city of Huizhou. Climbing the steps, you can reach the top of the mountain. Despite the lane's modest size, it is full of large, deep courtyards. Yuliang Street With a history of over 1200 years, it is known as the 'Origin of Hui Merchants'. Yuliang Ancient Street is nestled between mountains and water, with the entire street paved with uniform cobblestones and shops lining both sides. Ancient ancestral halls, traditional residences, and temples can be seen along the street. Huizhou Snacks When it comes to Huizhou cuisine, you must try the stinky mandarin fish and hairy tofu featured in 'A Bite of China'. Additionally, I would like to recommend stone mo (a type of dumpling), and Huangshan baked buns.
