🇵🇹 Monument to the Discoveries in Belem

Monument to the Discoveries stands on the northern bank of the Tagus river estuary in Belém, Lisbon. Originally built as a temporary statue in 1940 for the Portuguese World Exhibition, the monument was rebuilt in 1960 to commemorate the 500 years death anniversary of Prince Henry the Navigator. The statues of Henry the Navigator and 32 other figures from the history of the Discoveries are erected outside the monument. The monument is definitely worth a visit if you are interested in the history and changing landscape in Lisbon. An adult entrance ticket costs €10.00 which includes access to the viewpoint and museum. To access the viewpoint we had to take the lift to the top floor and from there climb a few flights of stairs to reach the observation deck. The observation deck offers spectacular views over the Tagus estuary and skyline of Lisbon. The museum at the basement houses exhibition to showcase how the landscape in Lisbon changed over the years. 📍Padrão dos Descobrimentos Av.
