The Guozijian Street Guide for a Leisurely Stroll through the City

Guozijian Street was already formed during the Yuan Dynasty, and in the tenth year of Dade (1306), the Confucian Temple and Guozijian were built here. During the Ming Dynasty, it belonged to the Chongjiao Fang. In the Qing Dynasty, it was part of the Bordered Yellow Banner and was called Chengxian Street. It was named Guozijian during the Republic of China. In 1965, during the renaming of places, it was called Guozijian Street. During the 'Cultural Revolution', it was temporarily renamed to Hongri North Road No. 9, and later reverted to Guozijian Street. The street is 680 meters long and 12 meters wide. The north side of the street is home to the Confucian Temple and Guozijian, which are national key cultural relics protection units. The Confucian Temple was the place where Confucius, the Supreme Sage and Teacher, was worshipped during the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, and the Guozijian was the highest institution of learning and educational administration during these dynasties. Guozijian Street retains four archways and a 'dismounting stele', making it a protected cultural relics street of Beijing. In 2009, Guozijian Street was named one of China's top ten historical and cultural famous streets.
