HI San Francisco Fisherman's Wharf Hostel

Read the previous reviews about staff. Had the worst exchange with the most RUDE and OBNOXIOUS "front desk" clerk Gabriel. Terrible. Worst customer service. I read from Zoe's review that staff looked hungover or they were disenaged and the Thursday guy didnt bother lifting his head up, wondering if that was him.

This hostel is quite recommended in terms of location, price, and hospitality for those who are accustomed to the hostels' accommodation style. The location is one of the greatest traits, where it is central, coastal, and in the middle between the Golden Gate and the piers. It is very close to most of the top attractions. The cleanliness level was appropriate, the lounge was spacious and nice, the breakfast was nice and adequate, and the receptionists were professional in welcome and the advice.

The location is fabulous. A stunning view of the bay and golden gate bridge. A short walk along the bay front to Fishermans wharf, it took us around 15 minutes. We had a family room and it was fabulous, we had our own room and a shared kitchen with another dorm. It had everything we needed apart from a toaster. The staff here seem to either have very busy night lives or are just very miserable in their job. Apart from the two girls that checked us in on Wed 3rd Jan at 9pm everyone else was miserable. The guy on the Thursday morning shift couldn't even be bothered lifting his head off the front counter when we asked him a question. The management might also want to organise a staff room as staff members would come into our common space during the day and proceed to lie on the couch and promptly go to sleep. It was a very weird vibe. It also meant we were creeping around as someone was sleeping in our living space.

If you like to be surrounded by Good people and beautiful scenery, this is the place for you. Yes, you can spend top dollars at a fancy Hotel, however Good memories that will last a lifetime is priceless. Highly recommend to stay at this beautiful location with an outstanding staff that will greet you and make you feel at home.

Location was great but facilities in room were not on par. Awful bed, pillow , bathrooms. Friendly staff but other people staying not so. It has weird vibes and we didn’t feel comfortable. Shane cause we stayed based on glowing reviews here.

I booked this place for myself and a friend for 3 nights at the start of our west coast trip. Another friend had stayed here a few months prior and recommended it. It was good value for money and we received a really warm and helpful welcome from the guy on reception. We booked the family room, which had a triple bunk. The location is excellent! Right on the water and we had a view of the Golden Gate Bridge from our room, making for some excellent sunset views. The beds were so comfortable with wonderful soft duvet and pillows. The toilets were just across the corridor, meaning we didn't have to trek far at all. The showers were nice and warm. There is a big supermarket a short walk away but the hostel does also offer a selection of snacks and drinks you can purchase (although some vegetarian sandwiches would have been great!). Breakfast is included in a shared dining hall. It's basic but sufficient (hot drinks, toast, fruit, cereal). The thing I loved about this place is the variety of people and they are clear that they are a fully inclusive hostel (very disabled friendly) and won't stand for any discrimination. Whilst we didn't utilise it, they offer a variety of day trips. There are a few communal places places you can sit, they have a 'cinema' and a pool table. They also had a place you could refill your water bottle. I'd definitely stay here again.

This hostel is in a very good location overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz. Only a 15 minute walk to fisherman’s wharf. I booked a 4 bedroom female dorm and it was very clean and the other people very friendly. Our room was located in the ADA section which meant we had a separate kitchen and bathroom to use if we wished. The main kitchen facilities were very clean and had everything you might need with plenty to storage space for your food. The breakfast was good enough especially since it is included. If you are gluten intolerant like myself you may want to buy food for your breakfast as fruit and oats were the only GF options. There is a grocery store just a little way down the hill so buying your own food is quite easy. The main bathrooms were adequate but very small. I had to sit on the toilet in order to open the stall door! The laundry is only open 4:30 to 9:00pm but doesn’t get super busy so is easy to use. It cost $1 to wash and $1 to dry. This hostel is in a historic building so some wear and tear is expected but there could definitely be some improvements done to make the place look a little better.
