At first glance this seemed a good idea. Beautiful Gardone, left bank lake Garda, rather up-market even though hard hit through Covid. We were looking for a bit time out after months of working from home. The most common Online booking agency online had promised a mobile only deal for a 4star ‘boutique style’ design hotel, fully refurbished in 2019 with attractive photos to boot! We were happy to book two rooms for 12 days, Family with adult children, all vaccinated, the younger ones vaccinated 1st shot, which was at the time the needed criteria, the booking was completed just about 10 days before setting out! And then, 3 days before leaving , Covid struck, out of the blue, we have no idea how, there were no symptoms, only through the obligatory entrance test to passage France and enter Italy we found out that 1 of our party was indeed testing positive. Tied down to government enforced quarantine we informed the hotel that we would not have the capacity to arrive in time for our booking and were hoping to postpone our booking for a later date…. Obviously we were expecting that we would have to pay a fine of 2 -3 days stay, as it turned out to be pretty short notice. And here comes in the true standard and the class of a hotel! In handling an event like this! While reception staff at first seemed very helpful, at higher echelon, a manager proofed rude, unhelpful and utterly unprofessional. For a week, during our quarantine, we aimed to obtain a voucher or some form of credit for a later stay, yet no help, no support , niet, nothing. We booked non refundable, and we did not look for refund, we were looking for simple courtesy. We were aware that August would be possibly no longer an option as it is the season for the region, but we would have been happy to postpone into autumn….the Booking agency says : there should be assistance from the hotel…. Well no there is none. We are currently at this hotel and are staying out the last 3 days of our original booking, 3 days for the price of 12 days 2 rooms. We had hoped the actual face to face discussion would help to find a resolution acceptable to both sides, but… no. No other hotels are available in the area at a realistic price, after having spent a holiday booking in 4 star for 12 days? No courtesy, no refund , no credit ; no voucher forthcoming, not even a professional discussion, as the manager has no managerial attitude and has just walked away once the subject was approached in person. Certainly no 4 star standard, I know circumstances are difficult, but Now to the hotel itself. The only aspect which would be 4 star is the Lobby! The only lift is tiny and in times of covid there are no safety measures. Do you hate when a clean, 3-star at best, Hotel room looks 2 minutes after opening ones suitcase like a campsite? I do! There is no real wardrobe, only a half sized wardrobe with 5 hangers, not even hooks on the wall where one could hang up a dress, neither in the room nor in the bathroom, never mi
