YHA Borrowdale

great place to have rest，nice environment

Borrowdale is our favourite YHA hostel (we’ve stayed in lots!) and this was our fourth or fifth visit. We’ve stayed in rooms and landpods and all are great. It’s in a perfect location in the valley with access to public transport and great walks. The bar is ace. We love staying there. Loses a star this time because with a massive school group in (60+ teachers and kids) who reserved the whole of the dining room for their group every evening from 7pm until late (they ate and then did craft activities) there just simply wasn’t enough room in the bar for the other guests. This was a bit of a nightmare when self catering with kids. We usually use the dining room in the evenings (not least because as it gets later the bar can get a bit lairy and sweary and one of our kids is still small and doesn’t need to see / hear that!) and we didn’t have the best time crammed in to the bar trying to find space to sit together. In better weather we’d have sat outside the pod of course, or even outside the front of the building, but struggled because of the rain … loads and loads of rain! Not a criticism of anyone, it was ace to see the hostel being enjoyed by the lovely group, and with a big family of our own we don’t mind a bit of chaos, but we’ve never previously had an issue finding somewhere to sit and eat our tea and it was a bit frustrating. Otherwise all good … some lovely walks and runs, a fab campfire using one of the kits from reception. The outdoor loos were immaculately clean. Thanks team!

Just spent 3 nights camping at Borrowdale YHA and enjoyed continental breakfasts each morning, Self-catered evenings in the well equipped kitchen shared with other like-minded outdoor types. Good lounge and bar facilities, clean showers and toilets. A very popular destination.

First time here with seven friends. Staff were really friendly and helpful and the hostel and food were great - perfect spot in Borrowdale Valley with the Langstrath Inn just a few minutes walk away. Seeing the Northern Lights made the stay even more memorable!

we stayed here on our walk of the Cumbria Way. The location is great but there were no hot showers when we arrived, the room was small and pokey and the food really was awful - it filled a hole but nothing else!

A gem of a YHA in prime Lake District Location. Traditional old school YHA ambience and family friendly. A school group were there when I stayed, which was good to see. Facilities and room well thought out. Adequate off road parking. Staff polite and attentive. Small bar with beers, spirits and wines available.

First time for us in a YHA. Booked camping land pod. However, storm Kathleen hit and we had to be evacuated into the main building, into a private room for four, which was clean and cosy. The staff who dealt with the evacuation as we termed it were fabulous, including issuing us with a complimentary breakfast for the 4 of us the next day. Friendly and helpful throughout - their hard work should be commended. The bar area and games area were comfortable and well equipped and our children 12 and 9 made the most of the games area. We will return but next time out of storm season!

We absolutely loved our stay here, such a beautiful location, we had a camping pod each, which had heating and bedding provided. The stay was very comfortable and all of the staff were super nice and welcoming. Already looking at dates to come back again!

Fantastic location, staff really helpful and friendly, lovely, quirky atmosphere. Just one thing… the bedrooms - a bit cramped with no storage facilities whatsoever. Basically, just pile your belongings on what available floor space there is! If arriving by car, a lockable holdall or case would be useful.
