B&B Hotel Rouen Centre Rive Droite

Rouen|1.88km from UFR Sciences et Techniques Rouen
The hotel was used as part of the Leger trip to Monet’s garden, Versailles, cheese & calvados trip. The area boasts new cycle lanes so the coach cant park outside but stops just over the road, worth taking into consideration as there is no porterage. It was in the middle of renovations when we visited so everywhere was in a bit if disarray but caused us no issues whatsoever. There is a small slow lift so on check in that becomes busy and its tucked in a small corner with little room to stand, so if you can, use the stairs. We had room 306. Rooms, small and basic, bathroom, 2 small towels, thin and not very good quality but adequate and changed every day. No hand towel at all. Hairdryer - ours did not work and I’m not sure if that was just an issue in this particular room but it wasn’t needed so again not an issue. Shower - has a high step up into it and can become quite slippy so care is needed, shower was good and plenty of hot water. Large mirror and small bin Bed was comfortable with extra pillows, good large window which opens fully, good air conditioning which worked really well. Small seat, chair and desk, very small wardrobe with 4 hangers, no drawers, no tea/coffee, no safe or phone. Curtain good quality and blackout. We slept really well No English channel on TV (it said there was a news channel but we couldn’t get it) Breakfast - fresh orange juice, tea, coffee etc Delicious fresh bread to slice yourself, croissants and brioche, selection of jams and yoghurts, fruit and ham. Cheese was a thick wedge and me personally would have preferred slices Bacon, sausage and scrambled egg. Im very choosy about these breakfast staples so did not try these Restaurant/bar. Both excellent. Good choice in the bar and priced averagely. The menu for dinner - opens at 7pm was small but having tried 4 of the dishes i could not fault them, again all under or around €15 Parking plentiful Small outdoor patio area with tables and chairs. Not the prettiest place to sit and could do with some smartening up but to sit, chat and drink it was more than adequate Staff. Super friendly and helpful Really for a small (500ish) room motel it was adequate, quiet and just over the road from the Seine which was a pleasant walk. 15 minute stroll to the cathedral and old town. Excellent bakery around the corner. Carrefour and pizzas I would definitely be happy to stay again

Kyriad Rouen Centre

Rouen|2.06km from BDE STAPS Rouen
Positives. Easy to find. In good location, 5-10 minute walk from historic centre. Secure parking available. Relatively cheap. Reception staff were lovely and helpful. Bed Linen seemed clean. From there on its pretty negative. Parking is tight and limited. (i saw two people scrape their cars on walls and ceilings within 15 mins). Inconveniently placed concrete curbs and bollards make it tricky to get in and out with anything larger than a hatchback. Also had to block the entrance for everyone else whilst my wife got the access key from reception as there isn't a waiting bay for new arrivals outside the hotel. Hotel interior was dated and scruffy. Carpets dirty, reception smells of stale cigarettes. Overflowing cigarette ashtrays in the garden/terrace (which is basically the dead space between buildings filled with garden furniture. Room was small, dated decor, and lots of things were broken. Bed had a massive dip in it where springs had broken. Bath had black mould around. Light fixtures and telephone was handing off the wall. Hairdryer in bathroom was broken. Curtain didn’t pull far enough so room was bathed in light from 5:00. Walls paper thin. Unusual layout for hotel room, bathroom next to main bed. Toilet literally 1 metre from your bedside table (not much privacy). Had to sit on toilet at an angle because I could fit my knees in otherwise. Unfortunately there was a lack of care given to cleaning. Dust and hair under beds. We had used tea making kit still in the tray, and the toilet roll (which is housed in a black box rather than being lose) hadn’t been checked meaning we ran out after two sheets. Black mould around the bath. We were only given two towels despite them knowing we were three. Given shower gel to use as hand soap. Only 1 pillow each. Great location if you want to walk into town easily. Only 5 mins from historical centre. Although I would add that its right next to a massive busy road. Our room was at the back of the building on a working night so this didn’t affect us. (back of the room overlooks the smoking garden so it could be noisy if there were people out there). Reception staff really lovely, spoke very good English, and were accommodating of our terrible attempts at French. Breakfast was basic (continental style). Toast, jams, low quality patisseries. Sweaty jambon and fromage in a fridge cabinet, cereal, hot dogs ??? Yogurts and juice. Coffee machine. Tea making facility. Tubs of varying quality fruit salad. Most of the residents on the Wednesday morning that we attended seemed to be preparing for work. I assume that this hotel stays afloat by doing as little as possible but keeping things cheap so that they appeal to businesses trying to minimise cost. All in all it was a convenient place to stay for one night on our way through. But I wouldn’t stay here again even if it was half the price. Plenty of better options unless you are last minute desperate.

Campanile Rouen Nord - Mont Saint Aignan

Campanile may be a simple style of hotel but this one proved to be perfect for our few days in Rouen. Sophie and her team were brilliant! They were so helpful and friendly, keeping us informed of what was going on in the town (a festival celebrating Joan of Arc) and how this affected local transport. (Immediately outside the hotel was a bus stop getting us down to the historic centre in about 15 minutes for 1.70 euros.) Sophie even took a photo in the nearby Carrefour of something we wanted to get for our grandchild! We had breakfast each day and it was plentiful and varied as well as being fresh and of good quality. We ate two evenings in the restaurant and were again very happy with what was on offer and the quality. We would not hesitate to come back both to Rouen and to this hotel.

During our two days stay here we visited the cliffs of Rouen and Etreta. The hotel is located in a quiet and beautiful town with a hypermarket just around the corner. I would definitely recommend shopping here if you are going back to the UK. The room was small but clean and nice, everything was fine in the room. No problem! No English channel but this can be solved by using iPad. No online network is very useful. Had dinner where we stayed and we really enjoyed our meal and sat outside in the garden having a few very nice drinks. Did not have breakfast here but tasted a croissant and a cup of coffee at the Paul Cake Shop in the hypermarket. (Very nice) Thanks to the staff who made our stay physically and mentally pleasant.
