Park & Pool Resort

Booked and paid with trip.com and got a last minute rate for a room for 2 for less than 700 Baht. Have stayed in another hotel in Nong Khai for 650 Baht with no breakfast and have viewed several other hotels/guesthouses of the same price, so to me this is the better deal where we can swim. The resort is old and outdated so bed sheets and stuff are old but the value is very good. Breakfast is a simple buffet so I could eat until full with 3 types of fresh fruits, salad, 7 types of foods, pork boiled rice, rice, etc. No boiler in room but guests can use the hot water pot at Reception. Aircon worked well. Glass windows at front. A small glass window at back. Shower room door is opened to outside so it takes up the space of the room. We ate lunch in the Cafe. A huge bowl of soup costs 120 Baht. Rice 20 Baht a dish. Both of us were so full with 160 Baht. Smiling Reception and other staff at the Cafe. Fast check in and fast check out. We booked the room and arrived by tuk tuk about half an hour later and they saw our prepaid booking. I other places we stayed, Reception sometimes asked for the payment since they didn’t notice that the bookings were paid for. I was very happy when I checked in here. They have swimsuits for rent at 60 Baht if you don’t bring yours. They have a weird notice saying you will be fined if you swim with not proper swimsuits. Normally we don’t see this notice in upscale resorts. From Nong Khai train station, cross the street, walk to the right into a small street where you see the resort signage. Turn left and walk for a few minutes. Park & Pool is on you right.

Royal Nakhara Hotel and Convention Centre

Mi Chai|0.64km from downtown
We travelled up to Nong Khai for the recent balloon Festival and had a room booked at the Royal Nakhara Hotel. As we drove in to the hotel car-park, we were impressed from the outside. Check-in was quick and easy and when we entered our allocated room, it was obvious that the décor and furnishings were a bit tired and dated - but not a problem. However, as we looked around at the room and amenities we noticed several things to disappoint us. First, we saw an enormous birds nest sat right on top of the aircon unit outside on the balcony. The balcony doors were locked (with no key) so we could not even go onto the balcony, but as the view from the balcony was of surrounding metal factory roofs, we had no great urge to go onto the balcony anyway. Walking around the room and bathroom we noticed quite a lot of long black hairs on the floor, obviously from the previous guests and when checking out the bathroom, noticed toothpaste stains and splashes all over the washbasin mirror above and, human defecation waste around the rim of the toilet basin. It was obvious that the room had not been cleaned to a sufficient standard for the next guests. We really did not feel comfortable to stay here and notified the front desk, where a member of the management team and the housekeeper came to check on our findings. After showing them what we were unhappy with, the two members of staff went into the bathroom to discuss it but we could hear them talking and were shocked to hear that they thought we were making a fuss over trivial things. We decided that we were not comfortable to stay in the hotel any longer and asked to cancel the booking and we would find an alternative hotel. The staff initially refused to cancel the booking, then agreed, but said we would need to wait 15-30 days to receive a refund, which was not acceptable, considering that payment had been made instantly when booking the room. After further discussion and upon our insistence, the hotel did refund us the cost of the room and we sought to find alternative accommodation. We have no problem with a room being tired or dated, but that is no excuse for it not to be clean also, and the attitude to our concerns we heard being discussed (”its just only this, its only that”) were simply not acceptable for a service industry facility.

We booked and paid with Agoda while on a Tuktuk. Arrived a few minutes later and they received our booking. Saw the price at Reception counter for daily rate which is lower than the price we paid with Agoda but not sure what type of room will be with that rate. Our room is nice. There’s a wooden base large enough to place 2 mattresses on. The aircon is noisy a bit. There’s a balcony which is nice. There are 2 free bottles of water in the refrigerator but no water boiler to make coffee. We need to go down to the Reception where they provide instant coffee and hot water. There’s a lift which is a plus when we have heavy luggage. Next to Lotus and shopping complex Asawann 1 where there’s a van to Udon Thani every hour.

Very good accommodation, clean, inexpensive, easy to travel, just a short distance from the front of Nong Khai checkpoint. The area around the accommodation is very convenient and has all the food. There are Seven Lotus Mini. Go a little further and there is a PTT gas station. Complete.

We book the most expensive one and found that it is bright, spacious and nice. staff are friendly and smiling and willing to give the service they can. Breakfast is ok but coffee is not as good. I asked for fresh coffee but need to wait for later as staff who prepare comes later around 09.00 but we need to leave for other area. So far so good for the area around nong Khai. Owner is nice and very helpful.

Nongkhai City Center
This is such an amazing hotel that is well maintained and run by a family who are super friendly, kind and helpful. I got a free pick up and drop from the train station, breakfast was amazing, rooms are super clean, quiet and safe. The hotel is situated on the Mekong River, not too far from the Thai-Laos border post. They have a pool which is great for those hot days. The owners are very happy to help you plan your sightseeing in Nong kai and will give you advice on how best to get done what you have planned. I really enjoyed my stay here and I would recommend it if you’re planning a night or 3 in Nong Kai :)
