Hotel Astoria

I spent 4 nights at the Astoria Hotel Zermatt in March for a long weekend of skiing. The Astoria is a traditional family run hotel with authentic Swiss Alpine charm. The room was spacious and spotlessly clean, the breakfast buffet had everything you would expect and the staff were helpful and friendly. The Astoria is conveniently located in the middle of town, surrounded by lively bars and restaurants. There aren't a lot of ski-in, ski-out properties in Zermatt, so you do have to get the ski bus or an electric taxi to the lift in the morning, but this wasn't a problem for us. The OwnerManager Marc was extremely friendly and helpful, he helped us get all the ski chores done, ski hire, lift pass etc. Marc was very hospitable and we enjoyed a few drinks in the hotel bar with him, where he regaled us with stories of Zermatt and the Hotel over the years. The Astoria is reasonably priced(for Zermatt) we paid circa €1,200 for 4 nights in March. If you are looking for a good value, authentic Zermatt hotel, the Astoria is for you, we will be back!

Our MN Sitzmark group of 38 took over Hotel Astoria from 1/14, checking out early 1/21. The staff at this small hotel were attentive, cordial, helpful & enthusiastic about their service & town. I can't say enough about their daily hospitality. Our package included breakfast & dinner every day & the food was fresh, delicious & on-time. Mark is the hostest with the mostest & even played a bit of piano for us when he wasn't busy taking care of drinks & food or managing other details in the afternoons/evenings. Marta, Andrea & most of all, Margarida who was a brand new employee, made sure we had everything we needed at meals, made accommodations where necessary for food sensitivities, etc, checked to make sure we were comfortable in our rooms & in the new Wellness Ctr. Our room 305 was perfect on the top floor with a wrap around porch which unfortunately we didn't have much opportunity to use. It was not facing the Matterhorn but the views were still wonderful. I loved the high, wood vaulted ceiling, all the windows with the quaint white ruffled curtains, the armoire/closet storage & our sitting area that included a couch, 2 chairs & coffee table. The bathroom might be a bit dated but was perfectly functional, including good water pressure & plenty of hot water for a bath in the tub. The lighting was a bit dim which probably improved how we looked ;-). The Ski Room was a nice convenience with boot heaters & ski storage. The hotel location was convenient with the Slalom Ski Shop for equipment rentals & the elevator to access ski resort transportation around the corner. It is a couple of blocks from the Zermatt church & main street & about 10 blocks from the train station back to Tasch. We found many places to drink & shop close by. The outside bar on the corner & across the street can get loud if you have the windows open. I ALWAYs travel with ear plugs so it wasn't an issue for me. At least these establishments seem to turn off their music around 9p or so. The staff at Hotel Astoria made our stay so pleasant & easy I might consider returning someday!

Mark and his staff are Fabulous. Very friendly, spacious rooms and top notch meals. Love the location, easy walk to everything and close access to bus service. We brought our ski club from MN and everyone is extremely pleased we choose the Astoria for our trip to Zermatt. Looking forward to coming back!

Nice friendly on reception. Room very basic and dated. No kettle etc. good base though for shops and lake.

Very good location both for skiing and dinner/nightlife. The staff was super friendly and helpful . The welcome was really great. This makes a BIG difference (especially in Zermatt). Great experience. I will go there again and can def suggest!

We joined my father-in-law and his ski club for our first European skiing experience and we could not have planned it better ourselves! Our ski club took up the entire hotel. We had dinner and breakfast there each day and it was convenient, cozy, and delicious! We got lucky with a corner room which is larger with a seating area and a corner, wrap around balcony with beautiful views! The room and bathroom were clean and comfortable. The Wellness Center was wonderful! I was weary of being nude with people I'd just met, so the owner, Mark, opened it an hour early for ladies only. The ski room was so convenient, as were the rental shops and access to the slopes. The location was in right downtown, easy walking distance to shops, restaurants and bars. Mark was super friendly and welcoming. Mika was wonderful and so personable. My teenage boys loved it too!

The owner of this hotel gives to this place a good vibe. All members of his team are doing a great job for tourists. The hotel has all characteristics for a top ranking. Thank you Mark for what you are doing. Strongly suggest to pay a visit here guys!!

Stay was excellent, hotel was close by to everything ( train station - 10 mins, Matter horn cable car - 15 mins walk, Spar express market - next door ) The receptionist/manger was so friendly and very helpful, I recommend this this hotel to all

The bed and comforter were super comfortable. The room and balcony were very spacious. It’s an older hotel but it’s cute and everything works. I didn’t get a chance to visit the sauna but it looks new and clean. Service staff were amazing. Wifi is very weak and unreliable.
