I went to Jamestown for a private event and decided to find a room and stay over. I went online and although they were fully booked, I walked to The Jamestown just to check it out. Seems one person had booked the entire hotel and then didn't show. So I stayed there. The rooms are clean and bathrooms are updated and modern. Nice antique touches and the bed was comfy. The shutter vibrated all night, which wasn't a bother really, I wanted to believe one of the famous ghosts was speaking to me. There's no tv and no elevator. All rooms are upstairs. The central AC system worked great and it was 93 that day. They lock the front door at 10pm, but theres a key they give you if you need to leave and come back. That added an extra sense of security for me, as a woman traveling alone. I had dinner and drinks in the bar and Michelle, the bartender, was the best! She took great care of all of her guests and the food was awesome! I had fish n chips, clam chowder and maple chipotle chicken wings. Excellent food! The next morning was a completely different experience. They offer a free breakfast for hotel guests, which I asked for but it never came out on the patio. I was treated kind of like a bother, or a bag lady, once being asked if I was just "hanging out." Umm.. no, I was waiting for my breakfast I ordered. After waiting a half hour, I asked about it and the waitress on the patio didn't seem to know anything about it. I had ordered from I guess it was the bartender in the hall when she asked me what I wanted. So, I just left. In defense of the wait staff here, there doesn't seem to be anyone in charge. Last night a waitress who was busy with tables had to stop and show me the room and check me in. She said their general manager died a couple of months ago. This morning there were only about 4 tables occupied in the entire place so I have no idea what happened. Again, a waitress checked me out and took my key, and I guess she was busy too, she never said a word, not a thank you, not an invitation for breakfast or coffee, nothing. I kinda figured out for myself what to do next. All in all, I'd go back. The food is excellent, the rooms are clean, comfy and charming, and the history alone is worth the price of admission. Maybe they will get a manager soon and that would make this the perfect place. If the wait staff didn't have to multi task, maybe the food service would improve greatly.
