Hampton Inn East Windsor

East Windsor|2.74km from downtown
I am a Hilton Honors Diamond member, and as such I do stay at various hotels across Hilton's portfolio. As I live in Central NJ, this was just a Me-cation, just getting away from home over the weekend. I had checked-in online the day before as is customary, and chose my room at that time. Upon arrival and with a digital key, I bypassed the front desk and went right to my room. I found the room to be clean and bright. There was ample room for my belongings, and the bathroom had plenty of space to put down my toiletries. It happened to be unseasonably mild outside for November, so I was able to shut down the HVAC system to avoid any noise from it, since I would need neither heating nor cooling. I did go downstairs to the lobby once to collect the bottled water I was entitled to, and found it crowded with mostly children attending some sort of party. There was water on the floor between the pool and elevator indicating people were tracking pool water throughout the hotel. It also made it slippery by the elevator. Because of the number of people around, one elevator was not enough; most hotels have at least two. Since I had chosen my room far from the Turnpike, vehicle noise was not an issue. However my room was above the main entrance so there was some human noise outside in the evening, but it was not a problem during sleeping hours. No issues with TV or Internet. Sleep quality was as good as can be for an insomniac. I partook of breakfast in the morning, and give that a great rating. Anytime one can get both scrambled eggs AND sausage at the same time at a Hampton inn, it's a plus -- often it's one or the other. I checked out the same way I checked in, via the Hilton app, and my receipt was e-mailed to me. Overall it was a pleasant stay.

I chose this hotel for a recent visit to the area based on price and location. I wasn’t planning to be there very often, so my needs were pretty basic. While the pictures online look wonderful, as soon as I pulled up, I could tell that I was going to be disappointed. The outside grounds ooked poorly maintained, which was a bad sign. The room was basic - it had everything I needed, but the decor looked tired and one of the ottomans near the sofa was broken. The thermostat in the room did not function at all, so I opened the windows to manage the temperature…but they only opened about two inches, so it didn’t help much. The remote for the TV was terrible and the channel lineup didn’t match the actual channels. I frequently use hotel gyms as the yardstick for the quality of a hotel and this one was in line with the other experiences in this hotel. There were three cardio machines, but the TVs on them didn’t work and when I tried to adjust the incline on the treadmill, it make frightening noises that made it clear it had never been maintained. My next stop was the weight rack which included only 3 sets of dumbbells - 35, 45 and 50 pounds. I’m a pretty fit guy, but this is virtually useless…I think someone was taking the idea of “Jersey Strong” a bit too far! I know that breakfast buffets are hard to operate during COVID, but the display of food they put out was really weak. The toddler size containers of orange juice were a joke and the egg sandwich was cold and soggy. I have family in this area, so I have periodic needs to use hotels in this vicinity. It’s pretty clear that this hotel will not be on my list of considerations in the future.

Four-star, the latest hotel nearby, breakfast is now available, do not book rooms with breakfast. The outdoor parking lot is large and stop at will. I stayed at the summer school for many days.
