Magnolia Hotel Denver, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel

Denver Downtown/Capitol Hill
This fine old refurbished hotel in the heart of downtown Denver was fine for a three day conference. As a Bonvoy member, I used suite night credits and was upgraded to an exceptionally large and lovely suite, complete with fireplace – 1042. See photos. The suite had a large kitchen area with microwave and mini-fridge, sink, and coffee maker. No dishes, cutlery, kitchen ware, or dish soap and kitchen towels. It had a very comfortable dining room area, 4 chairs, and a spacious living room area, two closets with a functional safe, and bedroom with king bed. Blackout blinds in every room. The bed and bedding were soft and comfortable, the way I like them, and the lighting and bedside outlets were available. Bathroom has decent storage space, blow dryer, toiletries in addition to those affixed to the shower wall, and a lighted magnifying make-up mirror. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that my colleagues in the standard guest rooms had no mini-fridge. In my view, there is simply no excuse not to supply these in every hotel room. They are inexpensive to both purchase and maintain. The elevators were also a bit of an issue – we were down to 2 out of 3 with resulting longish waits, but they are pretty interesting - the original building elevators from the early 1900s. The bar serves a decent menu of breakfast, lunch and dinner choices, and the food is well prepared and presented. There is coffee available in the morning and cookies and milk in the evening in the lobby, free of charge. To a person, the staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful, from the reception staff to the servers in the restaurant, to the housekeeping and maintenance staff. Special mention goes to Cosette – she is one of the best front desk staff I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. She was quick to offer suggestions, and assistance, quick to go out of her way for you, and quick with a smile and a greeting. She’s a real credit to the hotel. All in all, would I stay at the Magnolia when in Denver again? Yes, but only if I had a room with a fridge.

From the moment I arrived until I left, customer service was stellar. Upon check-in I was greeted warmly and quickly. I was early, so my assigned room was not ready. I was immediately placed into a comparable room. As a Diamond member I was given bottles of water, a warm cookie and some other snacks. It felt like I had been to the grocery store. Location is very convenient to downtown and public transportation. The few dollars it costs for a premium room is definitely worth it. A friend stayed here at the same time and didn't upgrade. Their room was clean but a lot more dated.

My husband and I were here for a meeting. Otherwise we would not have chosen this hotel. Upon arriving the guy's computer went down after entering our name so we had to stand there for more than 30 minutes while the line behind us grew longer. The guy beside him's computer didn't have this ”glitch” so his line flowed smoothly. The next morning I thought I'd sleep in - have room service for lunch and spend the afternoon at the pool. I tried to get ahold of someone at in room dining and no one answered. I pushed every single button possible and not one person answered Not even on the EMERGENCY button? Finally called the front desk and was told that there was NO food service between the hours of 10 am til 4 pm. Their gift show (for candy bars) was closed until 4:30 pm. They had no vending machines. I was told the certain floors had ice machines. Only a slight bit of ice came out. So made it out to the pool which is not heated and was filthy. Very thin and tiny towels. Nothing going on - nothing like I had imagined. Very depressing atmosphere. As I'd said, if it weren't for the meeting, we'd stay somewhere else. Upon departing I asked that our stay be added to our Marriot points. They said they couldn't look our number up. Even by his email, etc. There was no one behind us waiting. How disappointing!!! Also, in the past it was free parking, Now it's $19 per night and you do it yourself Our room had a lovely view of the nasty rooftop of some rusty somethings...
The Westin Denver International Airport

The location is excellent, down to the 5th floor through the rest area to the airport, is the first choice for early flights, and the hotel feels very clean, although close to the airport, but can not hear the sound of the aircraft. Hotel management practices, no security concerns.

The airport shuttle bus goes directly to the hotel. There are good restaurants near the hotel. You can take a shuttle bus to the airport to get in and out of the hotel, which is quite convenient. The rooms are relatively spacious and comfortable, and the service is satisfactory.
