The Hotel & Athletic Club at Midtown

Chicago|2.58km from Pearle Vision
I rate this hotel as a three star but know that it has very good parts and not so good. Let’s start with the pros: Clean, modern, great fitness center (this is atop an athletic club). Both breakfast and lunch menus and food were good, healthy options. Bar has a sufficient choice for everyone. It was wintertime so we didn’t use the outdoor pool, but I suspect it is fun. While not in a tourist area, it is in a good location if you need to stop by a store to pick up something you need or forgot. Staff were friendly without exception. Rooms have ample space and everything you need. The rate is reasonable too, even with the $25 daily resort fee. In room coffee was good too and there is a small refrigerator. The cons: not a place for rest or quiet. The beds are very firm, too firm really to feel comfortable. I found myself tossing around quite a bit. On our first night, we awoke at 3 am hearing the workout room below. Someone was really jamming and they no doubt had a good session. It was loud enough that I could recognize each set. I mentioned it to management the next morning and it didn’t happen again. The gym is closed until 5 am so it was odd. Other reviews note this and I know that we were not dreaming. You can hear a lot of noise between rooms as there isn’t much acoustic dampening, but our neighbors were quiet once they got settled. Our friends stayed on the 5th floor, one floor up from us. They didn’t have the noise problem. Maybe you want to ask for a room on floor 5.

The Willows Hotel

This hotel was great in proximity to Wrigley Field. It has an old, historic feel with modern touches. The room was clean and beds very comfortable. Rooms are quiet, albeit dated. The only downfall was parking to check in, and then parking to stay. You'll likely have to use the parking ramp behind the hotel unless you're lucky enough to find street parking: if you enter the alley immediately after the hotel, you'll need to do a Y turn to get into the ramp. One thing I'd like to see changed is that they don't fill the fridge with beverages (no room for late-night pizza leftovers), and a microwave in the room would have been nice. If you're looking for a room with all the amenities of a ”chain” hotel, this isn't it. It's basic necessities. I would stay again. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Cheap, convenient transportation, 10 minutes walk from Fullerton subway station, take the bus to the city center, the subway is half a small. Located in a residential area, the surrounding environment is good and quiet. The public restrooms and showers are hygienic, the waiters are warm and friendly, and a complimentary, simple American breakfast is served, and freshly made popcorn is provided free of charge from noon to evening. There is a 24h self-service laundry room, washing powder + laundry + dry clothes for a total of 4 dollars can wash a large cylinder of clothing. There is a kitchen to cook your own meals, and a refrigerator to store food. Next to the Fullerton subway, there is a large supermarket with plenty of food and vegetables.

We stayed here in June of 2022 for the Dead & Co show at Wrigley. It was also pride parade weekend, so the neighborhood was hopping. The location of this hotel is awesome. It's in Boys Town right next to the Belmont El, and there are a ton of restaurants and bars within walking distance. The hotel is really cool- art deco style, lot of rooms but not too loud. My drawbacks are that our bed was tiny. My fiancee and I felt like we were sleeping on top of one another... not a huge deal for us since it was one night, but if I had been here mutliple nights it would have been an issue. We didn't have a shower curtain upon check-in, but they did bring one. Water pressure left a lot to be desired. Overall a decent property. We paid like $350 for the night so I typically expect a little more luxury for that rate, but it was pride week and a concert in town. I'd stay here again if the rate were a bit more reasonable for the quality of the accommodations. Clean property and quiet, so clearly well-managed. 3 stars- I'd give a 4th if the plumbing were better.
Wrigley Hostel - Chicago

This hostel is a gem. I came up for a long (four-day) weekend, went to see Penn & Teller at the Chicago Theater Friday night, ran the 2023 Chicago Marathon on Sunday morning. All of the guests were friendly and I met some new friends. The staff were likewise friendly, courteous, and helpful. The hostel was clean, particularly the bathrooms. There are plenty of lockers for storing your gear; kitchen has all the amenities. The hostel is two blocks from the L and it's a 20-minute ride to downtown on the Red Line. Convenience stores, restaurants, coffee shops, bars are within one to three blocks. The neighborhood appeared to be safe and the streets are well-lighted. Great place to stay!
