Lyngas Guesthouse

While the lounging and dining area was large and bright, the kitchen was tiny and poorly laid out. There was no way to have two groups prepare a meal at the same time, the sink was in the way of the fridge and the conduction cooktop did not respond to touch. One of the three days, we had no towels to wash or dry our dishes ( which were hand washed by the guests, poorly!) The bed was hard, lumpy and saggy. The bathrooms were adequately clean, but the air circulation was very poor if the door was shut between users as it often was. Their smells persisted for at least ten minutes after they left the room. The hallways and dining area was extremely echo-y. There was no way to carry on two conversations in the room at the same time. We arrived at the usual time guests would arrive - 2 other parties arrived while we were waiting - we had to ring up an employee who was off site and had to wait quite some time. We had the feeling this place was all about the owner making money and nothing else. They charge 5,000 ISK for one load of laundry! Our smaller room did not have information about the services in town but the larger rooms had all the usual information one would expect to welcome you into a new town. Despite the good breeze outside, the windows did not open enough to let enough air flow through to ventilate the rooms. We decided to leave the guesthouse one day early and forfeit the cost to get new accommodations.
Hjartarstadir Guesthouse

Cabin No. 2, 701 Eiðar, near Egilsstadir. 12 miles and 20 minutes by car north of Egilsstadir. It is one of five cabins, modern but not brand new; soundproofing is minimal and that was annoying as other guests were inconsiderate and kept slamming doors. As I write this there is a baby crying in a nearby cabin. The cabins have a beautiful outlook to the back so I cleaned the windows on the outside. The window in the front door is frosted so no view at all. The kitchen is minimalist, only the basics are provided. Whilst the floor covering is made of plastic, it’s actually a fairly realistic version of oak so looks good. The owner was helpful when I phoned with a query; the cleaner was also considerate and was very helpful when I spoke with her. There isn’t a TV in the room – you have to create your own entertainment.

This guesthouse is nicely located near Jökulsárlón(pick up location for many tour companies). It is right off the ring road 1. Away from town makes it a great location to view Northern Lights if they appear. Also, we had booked a snowmobile tour, the pick up point of which was a hotel hardly 5 mins drive away from the guesthouse We stayed in a room (room#1) with private bathroom the first night. The room was clean but a little too tight for two people and their luggage. There was a TV with free Netflix on it. The room had electric hot water kettle for tea/coffee We moved to a family cottage for the second night. This was spacious for two people with a seating area and a dining area. However, I expected it to be an upgrade over the previous room. But the cottage had no TV, no electric hot water kettle. It had a basic kitchenette with induction stove, a small refrigerator but no microwave. The breakfast had a number of items but no hot items (like scrambled/fried eggs, warm oatmeal/potatoes etc.) The dinner was better. I liked the fact that the lamb came with a good serving of veggies like peas and beets The Wi-Fi strength was decent in room#1 but was on the weaker side in the family cottage

After enjoying the view from Stokksnes last summer I had decided to spend the night next time I was going to be in the area. During my short winter visit last week I booked one night's stay and arrived in the late afternoon after having dinner at Höfn. I got my keys at the Viking Café together with a map of the area and two tickets for access to the viewpoints. My host showed me my room and I was amazed how spacious and well designed it was. I had a big room with two double beds, tea and coffee making facitilies, comfortable armchairs, a great view and a large walk-in shower in the bathroom. I thought it was really good value for money, especially since breakfast was also included. Unfortunately my itinerary and the weather didn't leave me a lot of time to explore the area further, but I'll definitely be back.

The hotel facilities are complete. It is beyond imagination that the public bathroom is very clean and has no odor. There is only one washing/drying machine. It takes a while for a lot of people. (I waited for almost 2 hours because some people were unconscious. The clothes are left for a long time before they are taken away, which is a waste of my sleep time.) The room is super small. It is really recommended to divide the room for more than 4 people. It is really narrow enough that even the suitcase can not be opened for a long time, but basically it can be

So we had a bit of an adventure checking in. The white board of who was staying where and when was out of date. Both check in locations were closed (late afternoon). The house was quiet and the restaurant not yet open for the season.. Turns out it is really very easy. Just look up the name of your cottage in your reservation and walk in the door! Keys were inside. Yes a very trusting place. We had a good laugh at ourselves. The cottages are small but have everything you need. We sat on the porch and looked at reindeer and at least 12 waterfalls. Hard to beat. I would suggest that instructions on how to use the 2 burner stove (hotplate) would be helpful. If we had not used one before we would have had trouble as it is not straight forward. It is a good place to bring your food and relax and enjoy. Would stay here again.

My wife and I stayed here for a night while seeing the countryside on our honeymoon. Room was very nice and quiet, bathroom was magnificent. Made dinner reservations and we were not disappointed (photos attached). We had the lamb dish and mushroom pasta, both were great. Highly recommend.
Eyjólfsstaðir Guesthouse Egilsstaðir

This is the most cost-effective hotel all the way, about 10 minutes drive from the town, the room is very clean, the mountain view opposite is very beautiful, and breakfast, although there are not many types, but enough to eat, public baths and toilets, not crowded, overall satisfaction
Media Luna Guesthouse

I had an impromptu stay in Seyðisfjörður after the first snow of the season had made Route 93 back to Egilsstaðir through the mountains impassable for the night with my vehicle. I stopped my Media Luna in search of available rooms for the night, and the staff was very kind and accommodating. He explained the usual plowing schedule for the town, and showed me around the guesthouse. Easy to get around with a common fridge | kitchen area, and all the rooms accessible through one central hallway. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the rooms were, being very clean and spacious with a nice and modern private bathroom. Great color scheme with browns and forest greens as well. I'm very appreciative for the accommodation, which made an unexpected hiccup into a nice detour during my Ring Road trip! I will certainly be staying here again if I visit Iceland again and am looking for somewhere to stay in Seyðisfjörður. Takk!
Blabjorg Resort

We were warmly welcomed on our arrival to Blabjorg Resort and were immediately impressed with the standard of the property and the facilities on offer. Our room was clean and comfortable and despite a sloped ceiling was relatively spacious. It made use of shared bathrooms but we never had any issue getting in to them when we needed to. The kitchen/lounge area next to the rooms was also very welcome and there were ample facilities to cook if you wanted. As it was raining heavily when we arrived we spent a bit of time in Blabjorg's bar/restaurant as well as in the on site brewery bar. Having not been aware of this when we booked we were delighted to have this so close and loved watching the Iceland football team in action while in there. Our food (order from the main restaurant and take it into the brewery bar) and beers were first class and the service was excellent too. Our breakfast the next morning was not only the best breakfast we had on our Iceland trip but also possibly the best hotel breakfast we've ever eaten. There was a huge selection of fresh, homecooked products and our only problem was deciding when to stop eating! We really can't praise the breakfast enough. It was that good and means we have a very positive opinion of Blabjorg.
