The palace is located in the west gate of the Temple of Heaven, covering an area of about 40,000 square meters, built in 18 years of Ming Yongle (1420 AD). The palace is the place where the emperor fasted before the sacrifice of the sky. The main buildings are the main hall without beam, the bedroom palace, the bell tower, etc. The front and sides of the main hall have the hour pavilion and the bronze pavilion. Behind the main hall is the bedroom hall. Although the Zhai Palace is not as luxurious as the palace in the Forbidden City, the place where the emperor lives is naturally very magnificent and magnificent, but it is necessary to be as low-key as possible in front of heaven.

Zhai Palace is located in the south of Chengsu Palace of the Forbidden City, west of the Yuqing Palace, the Ming Dynasty and the early Qing Dynasty. The fasting before the sacrifice of the heavens and the earth was carried out in the Temple of Heaven outside the palace. After the reign of the Emperor, the fasting ceremony was changed to the palace.

斋宫是皇帝进行斋戒的场所，在皇室的各种祭祈建筑中，都建有斋宫，现存最完整的斋宫建筑是北京天坛的斋宫。斋宫在天坛圜丘坛成贞门外西北，坐西朝东，平面为方形。宫墙两层，外层叫砖城，周长为66.07米；内层宫墙叫紫墙，周长为41.33米。围墙正东有宫门2道，左右各有1座角门，角门前面又各有1座汉白玉石桥。紫墙四周有167间回廊环绕，是守卫宫墙的八旗兵丁遮避风雨霜雪的地方。回廊上画有1300多幅人物、山水、花卉、翎毛等彩画。回廊外面有深池环绕，整个斋宫层层设防。石桥前面南北各有朝房5间，是侍卫和禁军兵将的临时住房。
