Some cities are so big that getting lost is part of the adventure.
But some cities are so unique and hidden that they become unforgettable for a completely different reason.

One of those places is Yanjin (盐津), a small town hidden in Yunnan Province, China. 🇨🇳

The first time I saw photos of Yanjin, I honestly wondered:

“Is this really a city?”

Built between towering mountains, this incredible town stretches through a narrow valley, with a river flowing alongside houses that cling to the mountain sides.

What makes Yanjin so special is not just its scenery, but the way people live in harmony with this unusual landscape.

🏔️ A town built inside a narrow mountain valley

🛣️ A main road that follows the shape of the valley and connects most parts of the town

🚶 A simple town layout where life happens along one main route, making it feel completely different from crowded modern cities

🌊 A peaceful atmosphere surrounded by mountains, rivers, and morning mist
Looking at Yanjin, I realized something…

Many travelers search for famous cities, luxury buildings, and popular attractions.
But sometimes, the most memorable places are the ones quietly waiting in hidden corners of the world.

I haven’t visited Yanjin yet, but after discovering this little mountain town, it immediately became one of the places on my travel wish list.

I can already imagine walking through its narrow streets, watching local life unfold between the mountains, and experiencing a side of China that feels far away from the usual tourist routes.

Because sometimes, the beginning of a journey is not the day we buy a flight ticket…

It starts the moment a place captures our heart and makes us say:
