Yanaka Cemetery

Every spring cherry season, Guzhong cemetery shakes itself into a cherry resort. A trip to the cemetery is full of the feeling of thinking about the present with ankle bones.

Tanaka Lingyuan is a Park Cemetery in Japan. It and a cherry blossom Avenue in the park are a local tourist attraction. Because of its beautiful scenery, many tourists are attracted to it.

Very beautiful especially in spring! I chose this location in spring of 2015 instead of going to the crowded Ueno Park. And glad I did. Walking here was very peaceful and quiet. Yanaka Cemetery is just 2-minute walk from Nippori Station. Before you enter the cemetery, take time to read the sign board on your left, written are the rules to abide when inside the graveyard to pay respect to those buried there. Don't forget to visit the nearby Tennoji Temple, which is one of the few ancient temples in Tokyo.

Walk through a peaceful area of Tokyo that shows lots of reverence for ancestors. I caught the tail end of the cherry blossoms which really enhanced the beauty. Tenno-ji is nearby.

Yanaka Cemetery is a large cemetery located near Ueno, Tokyo. I'm a fan of photography cemeteries and funerary monuments, and Japan has a much different style than the ones I've photographed in the US, South America, and Europe, so it was interesting to see the differences. The cemetery is home to many feral cats, some friendly and some more shy, often seen lazing about on tombs and making for ideal photo ops.
