Dunhuang is the "throat" of the ancient Silk Road. For thousands of years, Eastern and Western cultures and cultures of various ethnic groups have been widely exchanged and integrated here, thus forming the multicultural characteristics of Dunhuang.
The Dunhuang Academy and the National Foreign Cultural Trade Base (Beijing) jointly organized the "Digital Dunhuang - Dunhuang on the Silk Road" exhibition. Create high-level "bringing in" and "going out" to let the audience deeply feel the great integration, creativity and vitality of the Chinese nation. The exhibition includes multiple units such as "Six Grottoes", "Replica Caves", "Large-scale Replica Murals", "Statues", "Flying Music and Dance", "Eternal Architectural Space", "Secular Scenery", and "Multi-functional Hall", and exhibits nearly 50 pieces (sets) of digital results of the Dunhuang Academy Cultural Relics Digitalization Research Institute. The exhibits include 6 replicas of colored sculptures, including a Nirvana statue with a scale of more than 5 meters in Cave 158, more than 25 high-fidelity digital mural replicas, 5 imitation musical instruments, and more than 10 auxiliary exhibits. At the same time, two replica caves of Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes Cave 3 and Cave 285 are also exhibited (these two real caves are no longer open to the public). The scaled replica cave models of these two caves truly reproduce the real cave scenes. Among them are Zhang Qian's Mission to the Western Regions, Mount Wutai, the Nine-Colored Deer, the Rebounding Pipa, the Nirvana Statue in Cave 158 and other representative murals and colored sculptures of the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang.
The research and study activity unit of this exhibition has an independent research and study classroom, where students can watch digital videos, trace murals, and other rich research and study courses.
The digital experience unit transforms the content of the Mogao Grottoes into a panoramic virtual tour program. With the help of wearable devices, one can experience the spatial structure of the caves in 360 degrees and deeply experience the beauty of Buddhist art.
The cultural and creative unit displays cultural derivatives with Dunhuang art characteristics, including books, picture albums, etc.
