I am traveling solo in China for a month, and out of all the cities I visited, Turpan in Xinjiang became my absolute favorite—it was the cherry on top of this entire trip. It can be tiring waking up early for buses and trains, but it is always worth it because our driver, who was also the tour guide, was an amazing, respectful, and incredibly helpful man who made me appreciate Turpan’s culture even more. I felt so welcomed and comfortable even the entire team is Chinese. If you're a foreigner, just be prepared—police or security checks are very common, but it’s all normal procedure, and once everything is verified, they are surprisingly friendly. What truly made my experience special was my guide’s kindness and the way he represented the heart of Turpan; he’s also a wonderful photographer, and honestly, he deserves a raise for the joy he gives to tourists.Trip.com Picks
