Departing from downtown Kashgar and heading along the China-Pakistan Friendship Highway (National Highway 314) toward the Pamir Plateau, you'll be treated to the rustic charm of Uyghur and Kyrgyz villages and the serene vistas of vast pastoral landscapes along the way. Passing by the fiery red cliffs of Oytag, their blazing hues stand out strikingly under the sunlight.
The first stop takes you to Baisha Mountain, where unique landforms shaped by weathering stretch for kilometers along the lakeshore. The mountain is covered with silvery-white quartz sand grains that produce a whispering sound when caressed by the breeze, earning it the nickname "Singing Sand Mountain." Adjacent to it lies Baisha Lake, the source of the Gez River, with its vast and crystal-clear waters.
