Andreas was full of information about all of the stops on this tour. He was able to answer all of our (and the others guests) questions. He brought us to a beautiful picture point to see islet vila do campo and at the end brought us to the top of the volcanic crater (about 2000 meters up). This allowed us to see all of the Furnas (including the church that we stopped at earlier that day) in a whole new way. He was very very articulate with explaining the process for both the tea and the pineapple plantations. This tour was a good balance (about 50/50) of structured group time and independent time to explore the stops.

Reviews: Azores Whale Watching & Islet Boat Tour w/ Marine Biologist
Guest User2026-11-05
Our guide was very attentive and made sure everything went well and everyone enjoyed themselves… she even offered a short introduction with a film… 😉 We were really looking forward to the "German-speaking marine biologist" – and that's actually why we booked this tour. They do exist, but only occasionally… and not if the majority of the group is German-speaking… well, there are so many factors involved that it's unlikely to work out anyway – it's just a matter of luck. So, there's no point in choosing this tour… We had three stops at sea… our guide spoke very clear English… she was very friendly and knowledgeable. We saw bottlenose and the more delicate common dolphins and even caught a glimpse of Bryde's whale… 😇 but unfortunately, we didn't see much of the whale itself. That's 😉 luck, we know… the trip was good in dry weather… afterwards, everyone got a hot tea – a nice touch…

Reviews: From Ponta Delgada: Whale and Dolphin Watching Trip

We were able to see a large amount of dolphins, and it was truly spectacular. No whales on our particular day, but I understand that this is not up to the guides. The only negative... I will say that the crew rushed back (I assume to beat weather) and the route wasn't overly considerate of those that might get seasick; I personally witnessed several children who needed to use the vomit bags. I think most on the boat would prefer the rain to being ill. Once the crew noticed they seemed to go a bit easier, but it was a rough 30 minutes initially given the conditions of the sea and the particular route chosen.
