Departing from Queenstown, enjoy a comfortable journey along the shores of Lake Wakatipu, passing through the southern farmlands until reaching Lake Te Anau in the South Island.
After morning tea (at your own expense), travel along the lakeside and enter Fiordland National Park. Journey into the picturesque Eglinton Valley, an area of ancient alpine forests and cascading waterfalls, and one of the few glacier valleys in New Zealand accessible by road. Take advantage of the photo opportunities along the Milford Road, such as the stunning Mirror Lakes, where on calm days the surrounding mountains are perfectly reflected in the still waters, and glaciers have left their mark on the landscape.
As you cross the main divide of the Southern Alps, you'll witness breathtaking skyline views surrounded by stunning mountain peaks. Stop at Monkey Creek to taste some of the purest water in the world. Pass through the Homer Tunnel, a 1.2 km-long passage drilled through solid rock, traveling beneath the mountains before emerging through native forests into Milford Sound / Piopiotahi.
At Milford Sound / Piopiotahi, board a 1 hr 45 min scenic cruise to explore the region known as the "Eighth Wonder of the World." During your cruise, enjoy a delicious picnic lunch while taking in views of lush native rainforests clinging to steep cliffs, with wildlife like seals, penguins, and dolphins frequently spotted in the icy waters. The fjord is surrounded by towering mountains, including Mitre Peak which rises dramatically from the depths to an elevation of 1,692 meters.
Your cruise will take place on a multi-level catamaran with extensive outdoor decks, allowing you to get close to nature. Inside, you'll find comfortable seating and unobstructed views through the windows.
After the cruise, take a coach back to Queenstown.
