Our Kagoshima itinerary mainly consisted of Sengan-en Garden, the planetarium, and the observation deck. We didn't go up to Sakurajima, but we saw the Sakurajima volcano from afar. Since my family enjoys scenery, we thought Sengan-en Garden was very nice, but the one-hour visit was really rushed. There was a lot of traffic that day, and we spent a long time shopping at the planetarium. We also waited a long time at the meeting point because there were many tour buses. Our tour guide was a very nice and patient young woman who provided a lot of explanations. The staff were also very attentive and responsible, contacting us in advance to discuss the itinerary. Because the signal on the cruise ship wasn't very good, they contacted us beforehand so we could prepare, and their instructions were very detailed. Overall, it was a very good trip; it would have been even better if we could have explored more of the scenery!

I loved that we got to go by public transport. Our guide spoke excellent English, was extremely knowledgeable & even kindly escorted us back to the shuttle bus stop at end of tour. She even brought cooling neck wraps as it was a very hot day. Above & beyond.

It's a very efficient way to get to Yakushima! And it's quite comfortable on board, even if you don't get to enjoy the scenery much because you're mostly inside.
