Shanghai Wild Animal Park
Shanghai Wild Animal Park is located at No. 178 Nanliu Highway, Pudong New Area, Shanghai. It is China's first national-level wild animal park jointly constructed by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government and the State Forestry Administration. The park officially opened to the public on November 18, 1995, covering an area of approximately 1.53 square kilometers (about 2,300 acres). It is one of China's first batch of 5A-level tourist attractions and a national science education base. The park houses over 200 rare wild animal species from China and abroad, totaling more than 10,000 animals, including giant pandas, golden monkeys, crested ibises, white rhinos, and cheetahs.
The park is divided into three main areas: the Drive-Through Zone, the Walking Zone, and the "Water Adventure" Zone. The Drive-Through Zone features large free-roaming animal populations, where visitors ride sightseeing vehicles through predator and herbivore sections, witnessing Siberian tigers pacing through forests, cheetahs chasing playfully, and brown bears approaching windows for food—creating a thrilling "humans in cages, animals in the wild" experience. The Walking Zone houses the country's largest ring-tailed lemur island, allowing close interactions with adorable animals, along with unique shows like cheetah races and primate aerial walks. The pioneering "Water Adventure" offers boat tours through dense jungles, providing up-close views of over 20 rare species, including golden snub-nosed monkeys and waterfowl.
