When traveling with my parents, the company provided an extra vehicle. Our driver, Mr. Cai, was very friendly and polite, and he explained many local customs and traditions along the way, allowing us to experience the beauty of Tengchong, Ruili, and Mangshi, these border towns!

The driver was very nice. Personally, I felt that both Didi and rental car drivers in Tengchong were generally enthusiastic and patient, although I did encounter one who wasn't so great 😂. Overall, the flaws didn't outweigh the merits; it has the feel of a tourist city. However, the rental car was clearly outsourced by a travel agency partnered with Ctrip. I don't know how many outsourced services they've outsourced, but the driver wasn't familiar with our route, and it seems no one specifically handed us over. He didn't seem familiar with the locations on the itinerary, such as the Banyan Tree King in Donglai and Hougu Coffee. When I mentioned the Banyan Tree King, he didn't respond, and he didn't seem to know the exact location of Hougu Coffee either, though he suggested we go to another coffee plantation. Later, it got too late, so we went by ourselves. We gave up on that, but on the way back, when we passed the Longjiang Bridge, I felt something was off. We had come from Baoshan on the same road when we first arrived in Tengchong, and that coffee shop was right there on the hillside by the roadside – you could see it. The Didi driver had even told us about it. So, I didn't really care about the detours, especially since the driver himself was quite nice. It was just that the travel agency they partnered with wasn't very dedicated; they were only interested in making money and weren't doing their job properly. By the way, later the driver even recommended a local restaurant serving earthen pot dishes, dropped us off to order, and even ran an errand to retrieve a cup we had left at another hotel the day before. The driver's service was quite good.
