Nanchan Temple is located in Yangbai Township, Wutai County, Xinzhou City, Shanxi Province. Built in the third year of the Jianzhong era (782 AD) during the Tang Dynasty, it is one of China's oldest surviving wooden structures from the Tang period.

Originally built during the reign of Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei Dynasty (471-499 AD). It was reconstructed in the 11th year of the Dazhong era of the Tang Dynasty (857 AD). Foguang Temple is situated at a location with three sides facing east, south, and north.
