Art work and views
#shanghaitrip
A favourite place of mine over the weekend is definitely MAP (Museum of Art Pudong). This art museum comprises of various Tate inspired art work installations and covers 4 floors. There are also a number of photo spots in this museum, none more entertaining than the roof of the place.
Entrance fee covers all 3 exhibits and one usually is spread across the first and third floors.
The exhibits change every few months so check what’s on and choose wisely.

Pudong Art Museum West Gate View🌇
Shanghai Pudong Art Museum, beautiful smoke purple sunset night view
📍Location: Binjiang Avenue and Pudong Art Museum junction
🚈How to get there: Metro Line 2 or Line 14 exits Lujiazui Station Exit 2. Go out and navigate to the gate of Binjiang Park or the West gate of Pudong Art Museum.
⏰Time: Opposite the building of the Nations lights up at exactly six o 'clock, and sunset begins at about five forty. You can arrive at about 5:20, take a picture of the river, sunset, and then wait for the lights at dusk.
🔍Shooting: When the light is just turned on, the effect of smoke purple can be shot! Open the camera aperture wide, increase the exposure, avoid shooting too dark effect is bad.
🥰Best spot for shooting: The white corridor outside Pudong Art Museum, where the picture frame formed by the corridor is full of movie feeling, and three rows of seats can quietly wait for the sunset lights. There are many birds along the river, and there are reeds. It has a sense of story in the background of the buildings of all nations. You can squat when the birds fly over.
📝Tips: River temperature at night may be a little cold suggest wearing more clothes, bring some hot water, pay attention to keep warm!
For MVP, For the bund, For Shanghai
📍Opened in 2021, the Museum of Art Pudong was designed by famous French architect Jean Nouvel, who also did the big red building near Xintiandi. 🚇It’s a ten-minute walk from the Lujiazui metro station.
🏠MAP covers six floors with 13 exhibition halls as well as a rooftop terrace. The interior is standard Shanghai concrete minimalism, although the warm color and lighting offset this somewhat, creating a more accessible feel for the works.
🖼️Exhibitions run the gamut of classical and contemporary Chinese and International art, often transpiring concurrently with one another, which can make for a really eclectic afternoon at the museum.
🌍In partnership with first rate museums around the world, expect marquee visual / installation art events — anything from the world’s most famous historical artists from the Western cannon to the established big names on the Chinese contemporary scene.

MAP | Blow your mind modern art 🤯❤️
Getting There - ⛴ take the water bus across to Pudong or take the metro to Lujiazui station. A short walk from both.
Attractions - The Museum of Art Pudong (MAP) is one of Shanghai’s newer art galleries and is really word class. The building itself is worth a visit with panoramic views of Shanghai from the terrace (go at Sunset) and they host some cutting edge exhibits. We saw an exhibit curate by The Tate on Dynamic Graphics. Very cool.
Hotels - there are lots of some of Shanghai’s best hotels nearby, the Grand Hyatt in the Jinmao tower, the J Hotel in the Shanghai tower (if you’re looking for great views) and many many more.
Food & Restaurants - there’s a great restaurant on the terrace of MAP, or head down to the river and enjoy Eli Falafel, Blue Frog, Thai restaurants, Chilis and more.
Shopping - they have a great gift shop, but sadly no exhibition post of the show we saw. #modernart #tripblazers #newyearadventure #shanghai

Museum of Art Pudong celebrates the Asian artist Xu Bing across 2 floors of art. The main attraction is in the central area of MAP and the art continues through the first and third floors. It’s an extensive collection, all relating to human consumption and writing materials. Most impressive would be the layout shape of an animal made entirely from cigarettes to show tobacco consumption.

Museum of Art Pudong is a great art museum to visit with 4 floors filled with art work, some linked to Tate Modern. Exhibits generally stay here for 6 months and there will usually be 3 exhibits spread across the floors. The rooftop area hosts a restaurant and a view of the Bund worth checking out. Weekend and Holiday tickets are 200RMB and it’s an open dated ticket.

Design For Fun exhibit
#meetshanghai
Currently, MAP is showcasing 3 newer exhibitions, one of the smaller and less advertised is the Design for Fun exhibit. This exhibit is on the 4th floor and built up around home living. It focuses on bold and bright house decor and how this can be misconstrued by using obscure shapes.

MUSEUM OF ART PUDONG
This museum was such a great experience!✨the aesthetic and the way everything was set up was so minimal and interesting. There is a spot on the third floor where you can practice writing made up Chinese characters by an artist called Xu Bing.🖌
There was also something like a secret cove that had a beautiful floor to ceiling window with the ultimate view of the Pearl Tower in Shanghai. the most “instgrammable” vantage point for the tower if you ask me.📸
I recommend if you are a museum person and have an open mind, enjoy!✨#urbanexplorer #awesomepic #mytripvlog #tripblazers #musueumofart #pudong #chinesecharacters #exploreshanghai #shanghai #familiarforeigner
Caravaggio Exhibition
Caravaggio's life was intoxicating, dangerous, and full of mysteries. In 1600, he suddenly appeared in the art scene of Rome, and since then, he never lacked commissions and patronage, despite managing his success very poorly. The earliest critique about him appeared in 1604, which described his lifestyle about three years prior, saying 'He would work for two weeks and then swagger about with a sword at his side for a month or two, with a servant following him, from one tennis court to another, always ready to argue and fight, making it extremely awkward to be with him.' In 1606, Caravaggio killed a young man in a brawl, and a bounty was placed on his head, prompting him to flee Rome. In 1608, he was involved in another fight in Malta, and in the following year, 1609, in Naples, yet another fight, this time possibly with some unidentified adversaries seeking his life. By the next year, after just over a decade of his career as a painter, Caravaggio left this world.
A Century of Fantasy: The Imaginative World of 'The Manifesto of Surrealism'
2024 marks the centennial of the first publication of 'The Manifesto of Surrealism' in 1924. Among all the Western art movements that emerged at the beginning of the 20th century, Surrealism is perhaps the most culturally influential. The images and texts it produced best convey the feeling that there is an invisible universe to the way the world is recognized by the masses, where the laws and principles seem out of place to the public.
Surrealist artists were deeply influenced by the psychoanalytic writings of Sigmund Freud, and their obsession with the potential of the human brain brought them together. They sought to explore how to bypass the control of consciousness over the mind. To achieve this goal, they abandoned traditional artistic techniques in favor of delving into the subconscious or creating images of chance. The world of the subconscious is filled with the deepest fears and desires of the masses, and it is also where people encounter in their dreams every night. It seems that the world is devoid of rationality, and imagination dominates everything; life is not just reduced to simple rationality.
The 'A Century of Fantasy' exhibition currently on display at the Pudong Art Museum features all works from the collection of the National Galleries of Scotland, with over 100 heavyweight pieces by masters of Surrealism, including: Salvador Dalí, René Magritte, Max Ernst, Joan Miró, Leonora Carrington, Dorothea Tanning, Hannah Höch, Toyen, Marcel Duchamp, Alberto Giacometti, and others. These images, drawn from the exploration of the human psyche, exude a certain strangeness, sometimes unsettling, but as André Breton, the pioneer of Surrealism, said, there is always a 'beauty that shocks' to be seen in these works. The exhibition has attracted art enthusiasts of all ages to come and 'check in', some observe carefully and take patient notes, some are bewildered, some skim through just for visual pleasure, some are couples wandering around declaring their love, completely missing the intention of the Pudong Art Museum's carefully curated exhibition. Fortunately, the majority of the public are wise and each finds their own insight and benevolence. Presenting to everyone, I also consider it more than just checking in.

Pumei·Contours of Time|Interesting Oceania Art and Heritage Exhibition
|Interesting Oceania Art and Heritage Exhibition.Shanghai Pudong Art Museum has an interesting exhibition recently - 'Contours of Time: Oceania Art and Heritage from the Metropolitan Museum of Art'.
This exhibition consists of three main units: 'Voyaging', 'Ancestors', and 'Time', displaying over 110 artworks from nearly four centuries, including a series of vibrant giant sculptures, ceremonial masks, and characteristic costumes.
They are connected by common ancestors, using materials such as wood, bark, fiber, shells, and bones, telling numerous stories about origins, ancestral power, ritual knowledge and performance, presenting the regional culture of Oceania.
I especially like the fun and originality presented by these products, especially the individual character exhibits, each of which can trigger an involuntary smile, full of fun and imagination.
They can even resonate with us in reality, extending a series of vivid BGM and expression pack catchphrases, strongly recommend experiencing this heartwarming exhibition in this hot summer

Pudong Art Museum | Liu Xiangcheng Lens·Era·People
| Liu Xiangcheng Lens·Era·People. The third exhibition of the Pudong Art Museum is a photography exhibition by Liu Xiangcheng, which presents the development of New China in chronological order. I have seen many photography exhibitions, some are pure documentary realism, and some are highly artistic expressions, but only Liu Xiangcheng's exhibition is a perfect combination of story and art. You can feel the story of China then and now through the language of the lens.
1️⃣📸About the photo exhibition: The exhibition is presented in 7 units: "Face", "Posture", "Timing", "Thorn Point", "Crowd", "Fengtu", "Postscript", including nearly 200 precious photographs of historical event scenes, character portraits, and the real daily life of people in different countries during specific periods, and especially reproduces a unique photo printing experience in Liu Xiangcheng's photography career, vividly showing how the images in the news at that time were created, selected and disseminated.
2️⃣📑About Liu Xiangcheng: He is the first chief resident photographer of Time magazine and the Associated Press in Beijing since 1978. His works have won the "Spot News Photography Award" of the Pulitzer Prize, the highest award in the field of journalism. He also won the "Overseas Journalists Club Award" and was named one of the "99 most influential photographers in contemporary photography" by Paris Photography.
3️⃣🎑Exhibition connotation: As a professional identity of a photographer, the lens is Liu Xiangcheng's tool for recording the times, and he focuses the narrative on individuals who are ups and downs in the tide of the times. From national leaders to ordinary people, from world-renowned events to commonplace daily life, the "decisive moments" captured by Liu Xiangcheng's lens can always reveal a poetic connotation beyond the function of photography to record the times.
4️⃣🕙Business hours: 10:00-21:00 every day
5️⃣🎫Ticket price: 100 yuan for adults, 80 yuan for concession tickets
6️⃣📍Detailed address: No. 2777, Binjiang Avenue, Pudong New Area, Shanghai Pudong Art Museum
Visiting the Pudong Art Museum is a perfect blend of appreciating art and enjoying the scenery
The Pudong Art Museum currently has four exhibitions. If you want to appreciate them carefully and listen to the complete explanation, it is estimated that it will take a whole day. Of course, a quick glance will take about two to three hours. So either go early in the morning and spend a whole day enjoying the art, you can have lunch in the cafe or restaurant in the museum, but the meal is expensive; or enter the museum at two or three o'clock in the afternoon after having lunch outside, spend more than three hours visiting the exhibition and then wait for the Bund to light up at night. You can appreciate and photograph the Bund architecture of all nations in Puxi, the Oriental Pearl Tower and the three-piece set in Pudong. The lights are turned on at seven o'clock in the evening. Before the lights are turned on, you can also enjoy the sunset glow on the rooftop platform when the sun sets, provided that you must choose a good day and have good luck.
How can you not visit this terrace when you come to Shanghai?
Although the recent trend is citywalk
But the weather is too hot
I still prefer to enjoy the cool breeze of the Huangpu River on the Bund in the evening
Chat with friends
Perhaps only in Shanghai can I find the original intention of picking up the camera‼️
You must visit the Pudong Art Museum when you come to Shanghai | The exhibition hall itself is a work of art
Pudong Art Museum
There are currently four exhibitions, Xu Bing's Gravity Theater, Master of Six Hundred Years, Contour of Time, Liu Xiangcheng's Lens·Times·People Photography Exhibition, the daytime ticket price is 150 yuan/person.
📝Note tips:
Photo punching points: 1. Take a photo of the Gravity Theater on the third floor, this installation is one of the most photogenic places in the venue, you can take more photos here. 2. Take a photo with the Oriental Pearl at the floor-to-ceiling windows on the third floor, very photogenic. 3. It is the "Mirror Hall", in a long corridor of the venue, there is a whole floor-to-ceiling glass curtain wall, facing the riverside, and the essence of the Bund on the west bank of the river is in sight. If time permits, you must watch the sunset and night view here, it's absolutely beautiful.
Meng Xiaoyang's works
The tone has completely departed from the dark series he used to create, and has entered another warm series that belongs to his own unique temperament. From the love between family and friends, it extends to things outside of himself such as a small flower, a star, a bird, etc., which are handled with a hazy painting method that seems clear and vague in the picture, making this 'love' subtle, delicate, deep but full of expectations.
Magic City Exhibition | Pudong Art Museum | Caravaggio and the Baroque Miracle
The curatorial ability of Pudong Art Museum is really good.
This time Caravaggio and the Baroque Miracle
For the first time, I had the opportunity to see Caravaggio's 6 heavy real works
At the same time, it brings together more than 50 original works by Baroque painters.
In the exhibition design, it is supplemented with Baroque music and architectural elements
It makes you immerse in it when you visit the exhibition
Bringing a rare dramatic exhibition experience
I was worried that there would be many people during the winter vacation, but in fact, the exhibition experience is excellent, not many people, and the space is open
At the same time, there is Zeng Fanzhi: Past and Present, I like his water waves and giant series
Caravaggio&many more in Pudong Art Gallery
The masters of Baroque featuring Caravaggio and Bernini are now available to see in Pudong Art Gallery (MAP) Magnificent and dramatic colors, so much beauty and pain in the same paintings.
The gallery offers modern and classical selections at a time.
All art lovers can find their treats here. Also, their shop has an amazing selection of stylish trinkets for souvenir from Shanghai.
Easy access via public transport, right at Lujiazui metro station. You can plan a day trip here with the views from the Oriental Pearl and some fun shopping at Disney Flagship Store.

Pudong Art Museum
Today I came to the Pudong Art Museum, and I was attracted by the exhibition of Oceanic culture all day. There are many amazing artworks in the exhibition, each of which is full of unique artistic style and creativity.
First of all, I want to talk about the exhibition layout here. The entire exhibition hall uses bright and warm lighting, which makes people feel comfortable and relaxed. And each piece of art has detailed explanatory text, which allows us to better understand the cultural connotations behind the works.
‼️Visited Xu Bing's Gravity Theater‼️This exhibition takes gravity as the theme and presents the concept of gravity to us through various art forms. The sense of gravity and motion felt visually makes people feel as if they are in a completely different world.
‼️Six hundred years of masters: masterpieces from the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum‼️ presents a Western art scroll from the Renaissance to post-war Europe and American art. Each painting exudes a unique charm, which makes people immersed in it. I especially like those works with bright colors and smooth lines, which give people a relaxed and happy feeling.
The entire Pudong Art Museum is designed very carefully, and you can feel the artists' attention to detail and pursuit of perfection in every corner. Moreover, the staff in the museum are very friendly and enthusiastic, giving people a feeling of being at home.
If you are also an art lover, I strongly recommend visiting the Pudong Art Museum. Here you can not only appreciate various wonderful artworks, but also deeply understand the creative ideas and sources of inspiration of artists. Whether you are a professional painter or an ordinary audience, you can find your own beauty of art here.
🌟Highlights:
You can watch the sunset and sunset, super beautiful (unfortunately it was cloudy that day) and you can see the Oriental Pearl.

Liu Xiangcheng Shanghai Special Exhibition | Recording the memory of an era
Hello, everyone, I am Jack's travel story, today I am here to share with you the new exhibition in Magic City, Liu Xiangcheng's Lens·Era·People Art Exhibition.
👦About Liu Xiangcheng:
Liu Xiangcheng, a master of documentary photography. Born in Hong Kong in 1951, he went to study in the United States at the age of 16. In 1976, he started his career in news photography, serving as the chief China-based photographer for Time magazine and the Associated Press, and was later stationed in Los Angeles, New Delhi, Seoul, and Moscow.
In December 2019, at the "Commemoration of the 180th Anniversary of the Birth of Photography" event held by the International Federation of Photographic Art, the Komei City Government, and the Daguerre Foundation in Komei, France, Liu Xiangcheng was selected as one of the 180 people in the 180 years since the birth of photography.
❤️About this exhibition:
This exhibition is the largest one that Liu Xiangcheng has ever held, with more than half of the nearly 200 works on display for the first time. The exhibition breaks the past curatorial method based on events and years, and focuses on his photographic language with unit partition, extracting photographic techniques from visual cultural elements.
📷Photo recommendation:
✅Timing: For Liu Xiangcheng, timing is not luck, but the result of preparation and research before raising the camera. In his career, wherever he goes, he will first conduct research, understand how to predict the accurate timing, and the nature of the relevant characters and actions.
✅Local conditions: These photos reveal the connection between the vibrant community and the surrounding environment, and are also a natural expression of Liu Xiangcheng's poetic temperament.
✅Faces: It is not difficult to find from these photos that whether it is poverty, wealth, sadness, joy, calmness or excitement, they all contain what we can easily understand and remember.

Four exhibitions in a row at the Pudong Art Museum
📍Pudong Art Museum
1. Zeng Fanzhi: Past and Present (Painting 1988-2023)
~2024.3.8
Surprisingly, this solo exhibition by Mr. Zeng Fanzhi is not a personal retrospective like the previous ones by Xu Bing and Cai Guo-Qiang... Although there are some very precious early works, the focus is clearly on the debut of the Shimmer series (quite unexpected).
To be honest, whether it's the early masks or the current random line drawings, neither really appeals to me. But the biggest advantage of the Pudong Art Museum is the excellent conditions of the exhibition hall. The large exhibition hall for large-scale works in this exhibition is so grand, coupled with natural light, it's really drool-worthy... The few abstract random line drawings are absolutely beautiful in color.
2. Masters of Six Hundred Years: Masterpieces from the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum
Although many are not typical works, as an art historian, it's actually a great supplement and observation. My favorites are Manet/Rubens/Chagall.
3. Liu Xiangcheng Lens·Era·People
The eye of the era, the unique charm of news photography.
You've got to visit the Shanghai Museum of Art in Pudong! It's an incredible place to explore Chinese art and culture. The museum showcases a diverse collection of paintings, calligraphy, ceramics, and more. The modern architecture of the building is stunning, and the exhibitions are truly captivating. Don't miss this opportunity to immerse yourself in the beauty and history of Chinese art!

The night in Shanghai's Pudong area is also a true feast for the senses. It offers a wonderful blend of history while looking over the bund, modernity, and vibrant energy that showcases the city's dynamism and allure.
