Ice and Snow Sculpture
Location: South lake park, Changchun, China
Entrance fee: Free
Date: January 4&11, 2020
In winter this place is one of the most visited in Changchun. Here you can find beautiful sculptures made of snow.
No matter you look at them daytime or at night, they’re incredible.
They look amazing at night, because they’re colorful and it seems that you’re in a wonderland.
In winter it’s extremely cold in this park, so if you go there you must wear very warm clothes. You can go skating and enjoy the beautiful ice sculptures. Also there are some other activities you can do there.
I was so impressed with the sculptures that I visited this place twice.

The ice city: Changchun
Looking over the South Lake Park at a higher place, a panoramic view can be gained. It shapes like a dumbbell that is narrow from east to west and long south to north. The water area is 96 hectares which is similar in size as that of Summer Palace in Beijing. The South Lake Park is the largest one in the downtown area of Changchun.
The design related to South Lake Park was started by the Japanese in the Great New Capital City Plan. It was just made so by making use of the water source from Xinglong Channel of Yitong River and piling up a dam of 10 meters in height and 800 meters in length along today’s Gongnong Road. There is a bridge separating the lake into two parts. More than 60 years ago, there was also a bridge named Chuihong over the lake which was not structured by reinforced concrete but wooden material. In August 1948, the Kuomintang army burned it down in order to block hinder the liberation army. The bridge we see today was built in 1979 and its name originated from South Lake, and thus was named South Lake Bridge.
The water area of South Lake is the largest, which serves as a park and meanwhile functions as a storage source of water of the city.

The eighth stop of Changchun travel - Nanhu Park
📆 Itinerary: Walk half circle around the lake⭕, watch fish🐟 and sunset🌇
🚗 Transportation tips: Take the subway line 1 to Gongnong Square, exit from Exit A and walk there.
🌟 Highlights of the trip: The walking paths in Nanhu Park are a bit narrow, making it quite crowded when people come from the opposite direction. There is a musical fountain show at night, but I went there in winter, so I didn't watch it in the center of the lake, instead, I watched from the stands of the shopping mall across the lake. At Gate 3, there stands the Changchun Liberation Monument, which is a landmark building of Changchun City.
💰 Average cost: Free🆓
📌 Little Tips: Be sure to go to Nanhu Park to capture the sunset🌇 in the evening. It's incredibly beautiful, and whether you're taking photos or videos, it's worth watching over and over again.

❄️ The Ice and Snow Carnival is the highlight of the trip, with 11:00 to 21:00 being the prime time for activities. Although the ticket is a bit expensive (120 yuan/person), the ice and snow paradise at that moment is worth the experience.
🍴 Changchun's cuisine emphasizes local specialties, and here are a few must-try delicacies:
- Old Changchun sausage: Spicy and delicious, a unique snack of Changchun;
- Jiuxiangyuan sausage: Fragrant and fresh-tasting, a favorite food of Changchun people;
- Beer-flavored pork: The meat is fresh and juicy, and it tastes even better with beer;

Jilin Changchun If you don't say it's Nanhu Park, you would think it's Hangzhou's West Lake
🌟Highlights:
Yes, this is Nanhu Park in Jilin Changchun, not Hangzhou's West Lake.
Look, the north also has such beautiful places with water and scenery.
During the May Day holiday in Changchun, all major attractions are crowded with people, but Nanhu Park, being large enough and having plenty of entertainment options, is lively without being overcrowded.
🌟You can choose to rent a small boat🚣♀️, glide on the lake, admire the surrounding beauty, feel the moist and gentle breeze on your face, enjoy the sparkling waves under the sunlight, or chase after the playful ducks🦆 with your boat.
🌟If you have children, you can also go to the amusement area. It's simply a paradise for kids, with a carousel, pirate ship, bumper cars, mini roller coaster...
🌟If you want to relax for the whole day, you can bring a tent🏕️, there's a small sandy beach, bring sand-digging and fish-catching equipment, set up camp by the shore. Isn't this more fun than digging sand and catching fish in a mall? And it's free, but of course, pay attention to safety⚠️!
🌟If you are an adult, then put on your beautiful clothes, go take photos and check in. On the south side of the park, Nanhu Bridge is a new popular landmark for photography. Be bold and strike various poses for great shots!!!
🌟I prefer the sunset🌇, when the sun sets, the sky and the lake are golden, a few people walking by the lake, the evening breeze on your face, enjoying the romance before the night falls!
🚉Transportation tips:
🚗Self-driving: Navigate directly to Nanhu Park's Golden Beach or Nanhu Park. My electric car navigated to a nearby charging parking lot, which is a bit far, so I won't recommend it, but you can look for other parking lots around.
🚇Public transportation: You can also take the subway line 1 to Gongnong Square Station, and after exiting from Exit A, walk 700 meters to reach Golden Beach.
📝Note tips:
Remember to protect yourself from the sun and bring insect bite medication!

5 things you must know before going to the most classic scenic spots in Changchun city, pick up the guide and go!
Changchun is the capital city of Jilin Province, and also one of the three most important sub-provincial cities. The developed industrial economy and perfect infrastructure add a lot of development momentum to this city. Changchun, a city with the style of a big city and the charm of a tourist and leisure city, is full of charming atmosphere everywhere. So, Changchun has naturally become an indispensable important part of the Northeast tour. If you play in the city, which scenic spots are worth visiting? Such as the following classic check-in points listed by Mountain Wild Jun, see how many you have been to?
The first stop to Changchun city must be the most classic Nanhu Park. It is located in Gongnong Road, Chaoyang District, Changchun City. It can be traced back to 1935 before the founding of the country, and later renamed "Nanhu Park". So far, it is the largest city park in the center of Changchun. Its scale is second only to Beihu Park at the junction of the city and the suburbs. The beautiful environment, beautiful scenery and convenient transportation have become a must-visit spot for tourists. So how can you not go to Nanhu Park when you come to Changchun?
Opposite Nanhu Park is a sky garden, which can overlook the entire Nanhu Park, and the visual effect is very shocking. Everyone can go to this high point to enjoy the different beauty of Nanhu, which is very worth visiting.
The largest and most famous scenic spot in Nanhu Park is the "Lotus Pond" viewing spot, which covers a total area of about 40,000 square meters. It is said to be the largest lotus viewing place in Changchun city. Together with the landmark building of Nanhu Park, "Four Pavilion Bridge", it makes the whole park full of poetic and picturesque. So the best tourist economy must be in summer.
The second stop in Changchun is the famous Jingyuetan Scenic Area. To be honest, the actual scenery of this original ecological landscape is not as good as its fame, and it is not worth its score. However, tourists who like the ecological environment may wish to visit here. The whole lake road is very long and it takes a lot of time to travel in depth.
The shape and ecology of Changchun Jingyuetan are very similar to Taiwan's Sun Moon Lake, so it has the reputation of sister lake. Perhaps this kind of scenery can be seen everywhere in our south of the Yangtze River, so it doesn't feel very new and there are no bright spots, but it is very suitable for taking pictures. If you choose Jingyuetan for photo shoots or wedding dresses, it is very worthwhile. As a tourist attraction, it is not ideal.
Jingyuetan Scenic Area is suitable for coming in midsummer, and the breeze on the lake is very comfortable. But it's very cold in winter, so it's better to go to Jingyuetan in summer or early autumn.
The location of Beihu Park in Changchun city is relatively far away, so it can only be regarded as a city park in Changchun, not a city park. The park ranks first in Changchun city in terms of scale, with a total lake area of about 12 square kilometers, so it takes a lot of time to visit this scenic spot.
Beihu Park is large in area, has a good ecological environment, and has various small scenic spots with their own characteristics, as well as many places for rest. Therefore, Beihu Park is a very worthwhile check-in spot in Changchun, but it takes a lot of time to have fun.
Beihu Park, like Nanhu Park, is a free and beautiful scenic spot, which is worth visiting and checking in, especially for photography enthusiasts. This is the experience of Mountain Wild Jun, and I believe it will not be wrong.
Beihu Flower Sea is a rare flower viewing base in Changchun. Except for winter, it is surrounded by various flowers, which is very beautiful. It's right next to Beihu Park, and it's worth checking in.
The scale of Beihu Flower Sea is huge and very suitable for taking pictures. Mountain Wild Jun suggests bringing a telephoto lens to take pictures with more feeling and more tension in perspective. Both men and women feel good about taking pictures in Beihu Flower Sea. Even rural straight men like Mountain Wild Jun who are ugly and earthy like to take pictures.
The public transportation of Beihu Flower Sea is also very convenient. You can easily reach it by bus or city light rail, and there is no admission fee. Isn't it great?
How can you not experience the light rail when you come to Changchun? The location of Kuanping Bridge Light Rail Station is very good, which can integrate the city overpass and railway into one picture, with a lot of exotic customs. If you are lucky, you can meet the retro tram, which is very good for taking pictures.
The green path near Kuanping Bridge Light Rail Station is very beautiful. In summer, it has the beauty of greenery, in autumn, it has the warmth and poetry of autumn, and in winter, it has the scenery of snow country, so this light rail station is very suitable for checking in and taking pictures.
The years of Changchun Light Rail are quite long, which is a feature of Changchun city. Be sure to check in and take pictures here.
Related guide information for sightseeing:

Basically, you can reach it by bus or light rail and subway in the city, which is very convenient. Detailed routes can be navigated by yourself, and the author will not elaborate here.

3. Play time: It is recommended to visit Nanhu Park for 2 hours, Beihu Park for more than 5 hours, Jingyuetan Scenic Area for half a day, Beihu Flower Sea for 1 hour for taking pictures, and the light rail station according to your actual situation.

Founded in 1933, Changchun Nanhu Park has a very high status in the minds of locals. It almost carries the childhood memories of every Changchun person and is the favorite leisure and pastime for locals. In the winter, the entire lake is frozen in the lake. There is also a thick layer of snow. There are children sitting on the skateboard and dragging the skis by the parents. There are also adults playing gyro on the ice. The most powerful thing is There are many winter swimmers who swim in shirtlessness. This is minus 18 degrees. We feel cold when we walk down on the ice in the down jacket. They are going to swim a few times a day, which is really amazing!
