#Shi Wei Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
When China meets Russia Part 2: Shi Wei
Shi Wei village has been voted one of the top ten villages in China and you can see why. 😍 Shi Wei lies next to the Erguna river which separates China and Russia.
It is quaint and charming and the locals are extremely hospitable.
During the day you can walk through the village or rent a bike to move around faster. There is a small port at the end of the board walk where you can get a boat to go up and down the river. 🚢
You can also visit the raspberry and blueberry farm and check out the reindeers there. 🫐
Visit in the evening to find the village hopping with bbqs and tours it’s taking in the sights.

Hulunbuir Travel Guide: Classic 6-Day, 5-Night Itinerary
Hulunbuir 6-day 5-night guide❗
National Geographic does not deceive me; I accidentally stumbled into Hayao Miyazaki's fairy tale world! I finally understand why everyone wants to go to Hulunbuir to escape the summer heat❗
🚗This 6-day route includes Hulunbuir's popular attractions, such as the Morin Dawa River, Arxan, the Unfrozen River, Ergun Wetland, Hulun Lake, the Barhu Horse Dance, and more. Along the way, you'll also see vast forests, Nordic woods, Nara deer, and Monet's haystacks scattered across the grasslands... The grasslands have become the most eye-catching scenery
~
🐏As a local from Hulunbuir, I've summarized this super detailed guide. It's best to bookmark it for later, as it's useful no matter when you visit Hulunbuir.
Hulunbuir 6-day itinerary:
D1. Arrive at Hailar from all over the country, transfer to the hotel → free time
D2. Hailar → Hulunbuir Grassland → Morin Dawa River → Haji No-Man's Land Grassland → Ergun Wetland → Liliya Leba Bread → Stay in Ergun
D3. Ergun → Valley of Flowers → Birch Forest → Mongolwushiwei → Oroqen Manor → Shiwei
D4. Shiwei → Kaxian Highway → Horseback Riding → Sunset on Sunset Slope → Bonfire Party → Heishantou
D5. Heishantou → Visit Herders → Border Road → Hulun Lake → Manzhouli
D6. Manzhouli → Windmill Road → Mammoth Park → Huhenuoer Grassland → Hailar
💯About the way to play
❌Join a tour bus, sleep on the bus, and pee when you get off. Traditional
❌Renting a car and self-driving can only visit the attractions found by navigation, then drive on the paved road from start to finish. Boring
✔️Off-road vehicles go deep into the grasslands, seeking that natural corner
✔️Horseback riding across the grasslands, bonfire parties, fireworks parties
🍬【Travel Tips】
🔖The weather in Inner Mongolia's grasslands is unpredictable, with large temperature differences between day and night, so bring warm and windproof clothing (avoid green clothes for photos)
🔖If possible, prepare a telephoto lens and walkie-talkies, as the distance for photography on the grassland is far, and try to get up early (it gets light around three o'clock)
🔖Pay attention to sun protection!
🔖Scenic spots generally charge a fee, so bring your student ID
🔖If you need to cross the grasslands, many attractions within the grasslands do not have map navigation, the grasslands are too vast, many places have no cell phone signal, and without an experienced leader, do not risk self-driving!
Take your children to the grasslands and into the homes of herders this holiday, become a true Mongolian for once, and experience life on the grasslands~ Who does this vast grassland belong to in their heart? This summer, let us embark on this wonderful journey together, to explore, experience, and perceive, allowing our souls to deeply integrate with nature.

1⃣️: Essential items (adjust according to the size of your child)
☝️Clothing: All of the kid's cool outfits are okay, but make sure to have both thick and thin ones (there's a big temperature difference between day and night, and lightweight down jackets are essential for stargazing). Ladies naturally bring various dresses👗
☝️Mosquito repellent, ID card, some cash, daily food for the kiddo (such as baby food), sunscreen (🎩sunscreen cream/spray, sun-protective clothing🕶️), toiletry bag, insulation pad (it's not good for the baby to drink raw water directly, try to bring boiled water), lip balm (it's quite dry, to prevent chapping)
The hustle and bustle of the city, the worries of life, are instantly dissolved by the vast embrace of the grasslands. The summer in Hulunbuir is enchanting, and the depths of the grasslands are even more intoxicating, where mountains, water, grass, and forests blend seamlessly together. It forms a spectacular and beautiful three-dimensional painting

✅Self-driving: It is not recommended for those without experience in grassland travel, as the scenic spots are scattered, traffic is complex, there is no signal, and it's easy to get lost

·
❌Group tour: (Bus) Early departure, bad group meals, easily taken to shopping spots, unexpected forced consumption, terrible experience
✅Chartered car travel: High freedom, start after waking up🚘 Stop anytime you see beautiful scenery, the driver is also a photographer📸, luggage handler🎒, and a local live map🗺, allowing adults to relax
✅Self-driving: Plan your route in advance, download offline navigation🧭, stick to asphalt roads❌ Do not cross herders' pastures at will‼️ Pay attention to speed limits on border highway 331⛔️, and watch out for cattle, horses, and sheep that may appear at night🐑
== === === Bring a small stool === === ==
⁉️What to avoid on a Hulunbuir trip⁉️
✅🌟About chartered cars: 👉If the driver asks you for a crossing fee or car wash fee, refuse and contact the business🙆♂️, because if your itinerary includes crossing, the travel agency has definitely paid the driver enough‼️ There's no such thing as asking for a car wash fee from the customer after crossing, just refuse❌
✅🌟About drivers: 👉Between a good driver and a good car, a good driver is more important🙋♂️ Most SUVs can handle the Hulunbuir circuit, but a considerate driver is the soul of the entire trip
✅🌟About prices: 👉Price determines quality👍 Some quotes are expensive because they include more items, better hotels, and different accommodations; cheap quotes usually only include one entrance ticket, and you have to pay extra for activities inside💰. In fact, many entertainment activities are free of admission‼️ Or they don't include some core items, such as expensive tickets for Matryoshka Square and Horse Dance‼️
✅🌟About routes: 👉If you are traveling with children and the elderly, the popular classic routes can fully satisfy your imagination of the grasslands without being bumpy or too long, and a daily distance of 100+ kilometers can be easily managed; niche crossing routes are comparatively bumpy, and children and the elderly are more likely to get carsick, and there are also higher requirements for the type of vehicle.
✅🌟About prices: 👉What suits you is the best~ Off-season 3K+, peak season 4K+ is a moderate price for a 6-day Hulunbuir circuit, any lower and the hotel quality may be worrying, more expensive ones include high-end hotels~ Choose based on your accommodation requirements
✅🌟About timing: 👉In early May, Hulunbuir is still in a state of strong winds, while in late May, the grass starts to sprout shallowly; 👍June offers the best value for money💐 with wildflowers everywhere, low prices, and fewer people; July-August is the peak season for grassland tourism, with more people and higher prices, but it's the most beautiful time on the Hulunbuir grasslands~ Worth having✨

📍【Spotlight on Scenic Area: Erguna City - Shiwei Russian Ethnic Township】
🚘💨【Convenient Transportation】
Wind through the birch forest paths and embark on a self-driving journey through forests and history. Shiwei Ancient Town is about 200 kilometers from Hailar, and it is recommended to drive or charter a car to get there. Along the way, not only can you admire the picturesque birch forests and graceful reindeer, but you can also experience the profound implications of Chi Zijian's writing as you drive past the scenery depicted in 'The Right Bank of the Erguna River'.
🏡🍲【Accommodation and Dining Guide】
Choose from a dazzling array of wooden log cabin homestays in the town, such as the characteristic An Xiaohui Wooden Log Cabin Hotel. 🗺️👣【Travel Route Planning and Highlights】
1️⃣ **View Russia from the River Border**: Stand on the border of Shiwei, and right before your eyes is the pastoral scenery of Russia's Olochi, with cattle and sheep leisurely grazing and the vast grasslands stretching out, while the Erguna River flows quietly. Bring your magnifying glass and discover the beauty in every detail.
2️️ **Erguna River Cruise Trip**: Take a cruise along the Erguna River on the China-Russia border. As the boat moves slowly, the exotic scenery on both banks unfolds gradually. However, this activity requires at least 15 people to set sail, so remember to plan ahead!
3️⃣ **Sunrise Watching at Linjiang Village**: Get up early and drive to Linjiang Village to welcome the magnificent sunrise. Despite the changeable weather and the possibility of encountering rain, don't miss the tranquil morning time; you might discover another poetic scene.
💡📝【Travel Tips】

Shiwei—a small frontier town in Inner Mongolia by the Erguna River
Surrounded by the enchanting colors of autumn, we reached the small frontier town of Shiwei in Inner Mongolia by driving along G331.
What to see in Shiwei
Shiwei Town is a larger Russian ethnic village with the Shiwei Port. The main street in the town features some Russian-style architecture. Accommodations are primarily characterized by wooden log cabin style homestays.
The main attractions are in the village to the north, Linjiang Village
Linjiang Village is a small village 20 minutes' drive from Shiwei, right next to the Erguna River, with beautiful scenery. At the entrance to the village, there are high grounds where you can climb a small slope to view the river scenery; the big bend is very beautiful and is a great place to take sunset photos, highly recommended!
Driving along the river through Linjiang Village, just a short drive to the end, there's a place called Eagle's Mouth, with road signs pointing the way, as shown in the last picture. You can see a mountain full of birch trees, offering a very nice view, recommended.
The drive past Linjiang Village is very picturesque, and we stopped to take photos whenever we saw something beautiful.
Accommodation
We stayed in Shiwei Town because we wanted to relax a bit, so we stayed for three days. I see that most people only stay for one night. The key point is that the accommodation is cheap, a little over a hundred per night, with air conditioning and electric blankets, and it's quite clean, so it's very cost-effective. Every day we went to the Erguna border for a walk, under the blue sky and white clouds, which was especially comfortable. Just across the river is Russia.
Cuisine
In the north, people eat a lot of hot pot. We tried three restaurants, and after comparison, the Modala Restaurant on the main street is very good. The tendon hot pot is super tender, the best we had on the trip. Other hot pots and stir-fries are also delicious, with no disappointments. We went there for four meals.
About Lieba Fang (Don't miss the Kvass)
There are many Lieba Fangs in Shiwei Town, with various kinds of lieba, cheese, yogurt, and kvass. We tried kvass from three stores and liked the kvass from Lida Lieba Fang the most! We bought two bottles every day, and when we left, we took five bottles with us. Their kvass has a rich wheat aroma and a woody scent, better than any I've had before. The other two stores had kvass that was either too sweet or too sour, but Lida's had the strongest wheat flavor, which I really liked.
Autumn Journey| There is a kind of stunning that is the autumn color of Hulunbuir Hulunbuir Travel Guide
| There is a kind of stunning that is the autumn color of Hulunbuir Hulunbuir Travel Guide. Perhaps you are still stuck in the green light of Hulunbuir's midsummer, but you don't know that the autumn here is even more stunning✨
-
As soon as Hulunbuir enters autumn, the green grass turns into golden yellow all over the ground, and the sun shines brilliantly☀️, with rich and shocking scenery. However, this brilliant autumn color only appears for less than a month each year, swift and passionate, in the transition zone from the grassland to the forest, the hinterland of the forest, the sides of the extended river, around the village wooden houses, meandering wetlands, lakes and mountains......
-
The herdsmen use the grass rolling machine to roll up the excess forage, and after harvesting, they are placed on the grassland to dry. The golden cover is like a warm sun, gently embracing the earth.
When the autumn wind blows, the leaves🍂 sway, the beautiful Hulunbuir, presents a different dreamy autumn color, full of golden forests, everywhere yellow grassland.
-
Morning fog sunrise, sunset stars, when we walk into the hinterland of Daxinganling, use our feet to dialogue with nature, and enjoy the stunning autumn scenery.

Right bank of the Erguna River
Perhaps it's because of a book that this name came into people's view. From the Shiwei port in Hulun Buir, Inner Mongolia, along the right bank of the Erguna River, passing through Ulan Mountain, Heishantou Town, and then to the 186 Ribbon River, more than 200 kilometers of border highway, commonly known as the 'Ka Line', can be called 'the most beautiful border line in China', it is definitely a good route for self-driving.
In September, after several autumn rains, when the grassland sheds its proud green and puts on golden autumn clothes, coupled with unpredictable weather, it makes the colors here change at any time, this colorful picture can make people stop for a long time...
From the port of Shiwei, this road is super beautiful! ! So, parking, we are here to take a road photo! !
During travel, it is no longer limited to a tourist attraction, or a red snack, or a hotel beach! ! Nowadays, road photos are more and more concerned by travel photographers, especially in the north, where there are fewer roads and straight extensions, which are one of the prerequisites for large movies! Of course, the beautiful roads can't be separated from the surrounding scenery and the excellent weather. No, we also account for it! "Heavenly and geographically" is all right, and the "human peace" must be the cute and beautiful little friend of this car! The more people there are, the more composition and ideas! !
First of all, "qigong Dafa" is the most tacit understanding of more than four people, and it is also the most powerful action in the picture. A row of people, choose a "can not jump up", do a power push, three people or more behind, shout slogans by one person, jump synchronously, hands straight forward, legs as far forward as possible, if if you jump in place Strenuous, then jump back! The key point of this action is synchronization, and the height of the legs! We have also been "running together" for four days, so we probably succeeded after three or four attempts. Of course, the photographer's capture is also very important. It is best to choose continuous shooting! !
Since on the road, of course you can also choose to sit in the middle of the road, you don't have to cross your legs, you can bend naturally, sit sideways, casual! Even if you are lying down! !
Also, you can walk slowly along the middle of the road, run, or shake your long hair, or raise your coat (try not to use silk scarves, young people), open your hands, come again Look back. . . Continuous capture, video can be. Single, double, or like us, many people, all OK! ! In short, nature is not artificial, take a few more, always have the look you like! !
Come again, if you can, there may be more ideas for a prop! hat? Shoes? Water glass? If you find it complicated, simply point, drag your suitcase down, and take a road trip saying go! With the previous pendulum action, plus the suitcase, there will be a better feel! ! Pull the lever and drag it, sit back on the back, sit on the suitcase and look up at the sky, or sit and stand, or take the same for each of the four, as shown in the picture, in short, please use your imagination! Please be cool! !
tips: 1. Everything is built on top of the safety. In the middle of the road, the speed is not slow. When you meet a distant car, you must avoid it early. Safety is the foundation of happiness! !
2. Take pictures of people as much as possible under an environment or action. Take a look at the overhead shot, or even take one or two at various angles, such as under the armpit, and then choose a better perspective.
3. Be sure to choose the asphalt road, and it is the kind of endless, farther and better spacious view, the road is very long, don't rush to see it.
4. Try not to jump in the plateau area. I felt nothing after jumping in the northwest for a few years. Later, I was fine in Lhasa. I went to Mount Everest and suddenly jumped me for a few days. Slow down!
Hey! ! This group of road photos is the most satisfying set of photos throughout the trip! ! And the tacit understanding between the little friends is getting better and better! Awesome! !
