Must visit place in Nagoya - Nagoya Castle
I went to Nagoya Castle during the blooming of sakura and it was so beautiful. However the main tower is closed for renovation. Despite that, there are so many other things to explore around the castle.
The high walls and the buildings structure of the castle are well preserved and maintained. There are also beautiful parks and gardens within the compound. Overall a must visit when you are in Nagoya.
The admission fee was 500 yen for one adult during my visit in April 2023.

Beautiful Place in Japan
Nagoya Castle is place where oda Nabunaga lived in his youth.one of most powerful warring lords inthe sixteen century.the castle is important in japan
Nagoya Castle
Nagoya Castle was completed in 1615 by the Shogun, Tokugawa Ieyasu. Topped with golden shachihoko, votive tiger-fish roof devices, and boasting the largest floorspace of any tower keep, Nagoya Castle and its magnificent Hommaru Palace were operated as a military facility. Nagoya Castle was Japan’s first castle to be designated a National Treasure. Even after wartime air raid destruction, it was deemed historically important enough to be designated a National Historic Site. Restoration work being carried out is returning Nagoya Castle to original condition. Most castle buildings were destroyed in the air raids of 1945, including the castle keep and the palace buildings. The current ferro-concrete reconstruction of the castle keep dates from 1959 and - before its closure in May 2018 - contained a modern museum with exhibits about the castle's history. The park surrounding the castle keep features two circles of moats and impressive walls with corner turrets. It becomes an attractive hanami spot during the cherry blossom season which usually peaks in late March or early April.

#awesomepic In 1610 Tokugawa Ieyasu ordered the construction of Nagoya-jo to solidify the Tokugawa authority in Owari (Nagoya and vicinity). The castle was completed in 1612 and Tokugawa's ninth son Yoshinao entered the castle in 1616 from which he governed over Owari. #awesomepic
This is my memory when visiting Nagoya Castle. A clean and full of historical value. Outside the palace also often held performances, telling stories about the golden age of the kingdom. All the palaces are located in a high place and from one of the palace windows we can see the vast city of Nagoya. Inside many ancient items and also high-value sculptures.
If you enter, don't forget to obey every regulation, for example there is a certain place that is not allowed to take photos.

The walk from Nagoya station was about 40 minutes. The entrance fee was 1000 yen for each adult. We reached at about 2 or 3 in the afternoon and it was not very crowded. There were tour groups who were arriving at the castle. The main castle tower was out of bounds so we went to the gardens and other parts of the castle grounds. There were vending machines all over and few stalls selling ice cream and souvenirs. A little further down, there is a row of shops selling more food. A great place and a must see in Nagoya! We followed the guide to seek out the historic and scenic spots in the castle. There are three corner towers and one can go up the towers. The best of these is the north west corner tower where one can see the water in the moat. Then one must also look at the main tower and its annex. We admired the golden shachi.at the roof. Due to restoration work, one cannot the main tower. Really disappointed. Then there is the Ninomaru garden to visit . Nice Japanese landscape garden. There is also a tea house in the garden. Then one must then proceed to visit the amazing Hommaru Palace. When we visited, there were many beautiful flowers on display. Amazing, beautiful and colorful !

Nagoya City is associated with Osaka Castle, and Kumamoto Castle is collectively known as "the three most famous cities in Japan." Nagoya Castle was built in 1612 by Tokugawa Ieyasu. It was destroyed by the Second World War and the surviving buildings were restored in 1959. The biggest feature of Nagoya City belongs to his more than 2,000 cherry trees.
Among them, the Tianshou Pavilion is the place where the Tokugawa family lived. It is accessible from the avenue on the right side of the main entrance. This is a five-story building with two sides of the roof and the female body of a golden animal head. . The interior of the castle tower has been renovated and its wooden structure has been unreserved and an elevator has been added. The museums set up in the castle tower show artifacts such as door paintings and weapons.
The current castle tower is a reinforced concrete structure that was rebuilt as a symbol of Nagoya after World War II. After half a century of baptism, the aging and earthquake resistance of the castle tower has once again become a problem. In order to solve this problem and let the world better understand the true value of Nagoya Castle as a special historical relic, Nagoya Castle Tower is carrying out the restoration of wooden structures.

Otsu Bridge outside Nagoya Castle
After leaving Nagoya Castle, walk all the way to the Sotobori-dori where there is a large stone bridge from the Showa era called Otsu Bridge.
The Sotobori is the outermost moat of the ancient Nagoya Castle, which was originally supposed to be a wooden bridge. The sign on the bridge records that it was rebuilt in the 42nd year of Showa, which is 1967, with a complete stone construction, and the old Japanese style is evident.
During the romantic cherry blossom season, this bridge is especially fitting.
Address: Intersection of Nagoya Otsu-dori and Sotobori-dori

Nagoya Cherry Blossoms
🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸
Encounter the unparalleled beauty of cherry blossoms at Takato Castle Ruins Park and get up close with nature.
How can one miss the cherry blossom viewing when visiting Japan in spring? The splendid and vibrant cherry blossoms always attract countless gazes, and in Nagano Prefecture of Japan, there is a scenic spot known as the 'Number One Cherry Blossom in the World' - Takato Castle Ruins Park.
During the cherry blossom season each year, the cherry blossoms here are incredibly dense, coupled with the ancient and charming atmosphere, making it an endlessly fascinating sight. In Nagano, the best place to enjoy cherry blossoms is undoubtedly Takato Castle Ruins Park. The park has a history of over 70 years and was once managed and renovated by the famous warlord Takeda Shingen and his followers, before finally being conquered by Oda Nobunaga's heir Nobutada.
Around the park, about 1,500 Takato Kohigan cherry trees are planted. These cherry blossoms are smaller in size and tend towards a pinkish hue. It is said that because the area around Takato Castle Ruins is volcanic soil, it has given the originally white cherry blossoms a pinkish tint. So when you come here, you will encounter a pink cherry blossom rain.
In the vicinity of Takato Castle, you can also enjoy a comfortable hot spring. As a premier cherry blossom viewing spot in all of Japan, nearly 40,000 flower-viewing tourists come here each year. Among the Takato Kohigan cherry trees planted here, the oldest has a lifespan of over 130 years. Moreover, while enjoying the cherry blossoms here, you can also have the majestic Alps as a backdrop, which might even give you the illusion of seeing a cherry blossom blizzard.

Tokugawa Ieyasu's castle
After winning the Battle of Sekigahara and subsequently establishing the Edo Shogunate, the shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu ordered in 1610 that the samurai who had been enemies begin the construction of Nagoya Castle. The golden shachihoko (dolphin-like creatures) that adorn the two ends of the castle's ridge, the claim to the largest castle tower in history, the splendid and luxurious Honmaru Palace, the expansive Ninomaru Garden, and other structures of Nagoya Castle all demonstrate the formidable strength of the Tokugawa family. The castle is also surrounded by high walls, giving it fortress capabilities. Over the 260 years of the Edo period (1603-1867), Nagoya Castle, as the stronghold of the Owari Tokugawa family, flourished and prospered without end.
Viewing cherry blossoms in Nagoya
The cherry blossoms in Nagoya usually bloom in early April, and I have come to Japan at this time to enjoy the beautiful cherry blossoms in Nagoya.
After entering Nagoya Castle, the first thing you see is the very beautiful scenery: the cherry blossom buds are white, like pure quail eggs, and the blossoms that have opened are like flower fairies, growing vigorously on the big trees... Unfortunately, not many cherry blossoms are in bloom, and if you come a few days later, they will bloom even more beautifully.
Continuing further inside, you have to climb the mountain. There are not many steps, but the scenery is much more beautiful than that of an ordinary mountain. The flowers here are of various colors, including red, yellow, purple, and light green, which are very charming. There are also many types of trees here, including phoenix trees, pine trees, and cherry trees. Address: 1001 Tokugawa-cho, Higashi-ku, Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture (Tokugawa Garden Management Office)
Opening hours: 9:30 to 17:30
Admission: Adults 300 yen, elementary and junior high school students 150 yen, common ticket for the Tokugawa Art Museum, Hosa Library, and Tokugawa Garden 1350 yen
Nagoya Castle
A must-visit spot for tourists in Nagoya, Japan, is the symbol of Nagoya City - Nagoya Castle. This is due to the history of Nagoya Castle: Tokugawa Ieyasu, who won the Battle of Sekigahara, decided to build Nagoya Castle in 1609 to defend against the Toyotomi (Hideyoshi) army, and moved the entire town from Kiyosu to the newly built Nagoya Castle. The re-built grid-shaped streets became the prototype of modern Nagoya, and the names of streets or bridges are still used today. The Nagoya City Hall (City Government) is not far from Nagoya Castle.
Nagoya Castle includes the Nishi-no-Maru, Ni-no-Maru, Ofukai-Maru, and Honmaru. The Honmaru is the center of Nagoya Castle, and the castle tower and Honmaru Palace are located in the Honmaru.
Nagoya Castle
#nagoyatrip The Nagoya Castle is actually a museum, "disguised" as castle. Originally built in the first half of the sixteenth century and the middle of the various events of the time, it was almost completely destroyed by the American raid in 1945 and rebuilt from scratch based on drawings and plans survivors. I mean, how often are fond of the "fanboy" of Himeji Castle, Nagoya Castle is not the real castle of Nagoya. The rest just come to realize this: exits, stairs modern with lots of rails and a lift to visit all the floors. The need to completely rebuild the structure, however, has given some freedom of action to the designers who have finally decided to use as the interior spaces to show Japanese antiques or reproductions. In addition, the castle was continuously extended with new halls . Two parts that interested me the most: the outdoor gardens, pleasant almost like those of the castle in Akashi, and the floor of the castle which was rebuilt in a Japanese city of Edo period, with lots of alternation of day and night to realize what meant to be no light at the time.

#nagoyatrip You can see the amazing castle from close by, and also go walk inside the old Nagoya residence of the Shogun which had a really pretty traditional Japanese interior (no furniture though).
Small entry fee, tickets can be bought at the main gate. The Nagoya castle was one of my favourite places un Nagoya. The castle provides a beautiful view and there is also a small traditional house nearby this castle, where it is forbidden to take photos, so you won’t find many, but it is still recommended - the overall fee for entering the area was 500Yen for adults.
Unfortunately the castle couldn’t be assessed.
The area is big but not huge, I needed 1 hour to walk around the castle in the garden, which was >80% of the attraction.

It's surrounded by a park and a gravel field that was really spacious and the whole place was not crowded when we went on Tuesday afternoon, even though it is Chinese New year, which was nice.

Nagoya Castle is a historic Japanese castle located in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture. Originally built in the early 17th century, the castle has been reconstructed several times due to fires and damage during World War II. It is a symbol of the city and is known for its unique architectural style and beautiful gardens. Today, it serves as a museum showcasing the history and culture of the region.
The ultimate luxury of the magnificent Nagoya Castle, one of the three famous cities in Japan
This residence of the Owari Tokugawa family, one of the three feudal lords, was built in 1675 and has the largest castle tower in history, and the Hommaru Palace, which is luxuriously magnificent to the extreme, has been designated as a special national historic site.
The first generation castle tower with five floors and five steps was completed in 1672, and was the latest layered tower at the time, with golden shachi (mythical creatures) decorations at both ends of the ridge. The main building was destroyed in the air raid in 1945, the existing castle tower was rebuilt in 1959, and the Hommaru Palace has also undergone restoration work, continuing its past glory in a new form.
The Hommaru Palace, as the residence of the Owari feudal lord and the government office of the clan, was completed in 1615. It is a representative Shoin-zukuri (a style of Japanese residential architecture) building in Japan and is known as the highest masterpiece of the modern castle palace, and is designated as the first national treasure along with the castle tower.
The ceiling paintings, screen paintings, and metal ornaments inside are extremely luxurious and dazzling, and they change depending on the function of each room. The paintings by Kano Sadanobu, Kano Tan'yu and other Kano school painters are extremely gorgeous, each with a different theme, and the moment you step into the room, you are shocked by the powerful aura.

Portions of the Palace were rebuilt from 2009-2013 and the result is stunning. The complex of intricate rooms and beautiful art is well organised. We enjoyed each minute of it. While in the castle grounds, be sure to spend time looking down at the moats....imagine you're there when the castle stood alone on the plains. The moats are quite complex with small inlets --- the southern side seems to be completely dry (at least in summer) while the northern side is filled with water. Wander through the little forest area on the less visited northwest corner of the castle....there is a tea room house and foundation stones from the original castle. To reach, take the subway which is 100% user friendly and clean---we entered via the station on the northwest and meandered through some nice suburban streets then exited via the more direct Nagoya Castle station on the southeast.
I want to visit this castle again.

Nagoya Castle is the first castle to be designated as a National Treasure.
The castle was constructed in 1610 through the order of Tokugawa Ieyasu. It was mostly finished by 1615.
One of its distinct features are the Kishachi. Located on the roof of the castle. The original one were made with 1,940 Kecho era gold Obama (large coins). They showcased the power and money the Tokugawa family had.
