Half-day tour of Xuchang Chunqiu Building
2024.5.4 In the morning, we visited the Chunqiu Building: First of all, pay tribute to the Youth Day! Xuchang Chunqiu Building is located on Wenmiao Qian Street inside the ancient city of Cao Wei in Xuchang City, Henan Province, facing the Chunqiu Square. It has a long history and splendid culture, and is a group of Ming and Qing style buildings.
It is said that after Guan Yu's defeat at Xiapi, in order to protect the two wives of Liu Bei, he took refuge in Cao Cao's camp and entered Xuchang. Cao Cao bestowed upon Guan Yu a residence. To avoid suspicion, Guan Yu divided the residence into two courtyards, with the two imperial sisters-in-law living in the inner courtyard and himself in the outer courtyard. He would pay respects in the morning and evening, read 'The Spring and Autumn Annals' at night, and study by candlelight until dawn, which became a beautiful tale.
Xuchang municipal government restored the Chunqiu Building cultural relic scenic area in 1995. The scale of the restoration was the largest of all dynasties, with an investment of 15 million yuan, maintaining the pattern of 'two courtyards of heroic style'. The outer courtyard has a mountain gate, Chunqiu Building, Guan Sheng Temple, and Dao Yin Building; the inner courtyard is in the style of garden architecture, with the two wives' palace of Gan and Mi, Wen An Pavilion, Lei Chi (finally knowing the historical allusion that 'not stepping beyond the Lei Chi' originated from Xuchang Chunqiu Building. In those years, Cao Cao trapped Guan Yu and the two wives of Liu Bei in Xuchang, and Guan Yu would pay respects to the two sisters-in-law every morning. To avoid suspicion, he built a pond in front of the sisters-in-law's house, and Guan Yu would pay respects across the pond, hence the saying 'not stepping beyond the Lei Chi'), waterside pavilions, and Gua Yin Feng Jin Hall. There are also the Dacheng Hall, Ji Men, and east and west corridors of the Wenmiao courtyard. The newly built Guan Sheng Temple houses a 13-meter-tall statue of Guan Yu and statues of Guan Ping, Zhou Cang, Wang Fu, and Liao Hua, which are rare in Guan temples nationwide. After braving the drizzle for an hour, the tour ended, admiring Guan Yu's character. The respect of later generations is immortal, and to live up to this extent is truly beyond words.

Cao Wei Ancient City - A Journey through the Culture of the Three Kingdoms
Departed on the fourth day of the Chinese New Year, avoiding congestion all the way, heading to Xuchang. Arrived in Daming on the evening of the fourth day, which is also part of Handan. It was my first visit to Daming, a stroll around the ancient city of Daming from the Ming and Qing dynasties, where the city gates are well-preserved. By the time I reached the Daming County Catholic Church, it was completely dark, and I captured the church under the stars and moon .
On the fifth day (14th), I passed by the ancient city of Shangqiu, but was scared off by the crowd and did not stop, hurriedly continuing on. Arrived at the Xuchang Guesthouse in the evening, finally got to taste the authentic spicy soup, delicious and not too spicy
On the sixth day (15th), visited the Xuchang Museum, and in the afternoon, the Cao Wei Ancient City, which was super crowded. Didn't enter the Prime Minister's Mansion, walked for a long time and couldn't find a taxi. There really are a lot of people in Henan. Suddenly, we found ourselves at the famous Pangdonglai, sat down at the entrance to rest for a while, watching the bustling crowd, didn't have the courage to go in . Walked a long distance again, finally found a taxi . At the same small restaurant, had the spicy soup again, and also had the food that is clearly a pancake but insists on being called 'mo', the old 'mo' and vegetable 'mo'
On the seventh day (16th), set off for Bozhou, Anhui, to see where Cao Cao worked, and then to his birthplace. Visited Bozhou Guesthouse, Bozhou Museum, Cao Cao Memorial Hall. Cao Cao's greatness needs no description, everyone understands . An outstanding politician, military strategist, literary figure, calligrapher . Cao family tomb cluster - Cao Si Gu Dui, and the beautiful and fragrant wintersweet
On the eighth day (17th), prepared to head back, avoiding congestion in various ways, Hua County - Daokou Ancient Town, under construction; Xun County Ancient City, road closure - caught up with the famous Xun County folk Shehuo . Then it was Hebi, Hebi Guesthouse, Hebi City Museum
On the ninth day (18th), continued to travel through villages and counties, Xian County, Hejian, tried Hejian donkey meat Huoshao for the first time, the Huoshao was large and crispy, like a pocket filled with donkey meat, the taste was superb . Only then did I realize what those in Beijing were, nothing at all . Arrived at Bazhou Mingtang Riyue Lake Hot Spring Resort in the evening, the hot springs were great . Returned to Beijing the next afternoon, ending the journey.
Cao Wei Ancient City, a chance encounter
"The repeated pavilions reproduce the prosperity of the imperial capital, and the deep ancient alleys are familiar with the style of the Three Kingdoms." Stepping into the Cao Wei Ancient City on South Street in Weidu District, Xuchang City, the simple and elegant corridors, the grand and atmospheric arcades, the layered arches and flying eaves, and the uniquely shaped pavilions... It seems to travel through the dust of history and return to the Wei capital 1800 years ago.
Entering the commercial area from the south gate of the ancient city, it is filled with the combination of ancient and modern elements, and the buildings and the ground are all exuding the cultural atmosphere of the Three Kingdoms. The Hanfu little sisters who can be seen everywhere come here to check in and take pictures, as if they are in the Han and Wei periods.
The Cao Wei Ancient City is located in Weidu District, Xuchang City, Henan Province. It is a Cao Wei cultural ancient city with cultural display, tourism and leisure, commercial services, and characteristic living as its main functions.
The Cao Wei Ancient City is east to Wenfeng Road, south to July 1st Road, west to Beijing-Guangzhou Railway, and north to August 1st Road, with a land area of about 3.9 square kilometers.
Its core area is within the moat of 1.87 square kilometers. "When I hear about the affairs of the Three Kingdoms, I always want to go to Xuchang."
In the long history and culture of Xuchang, the Three Kingdoms culture, with its profound heritage, majestic momentum and far-reaching influence, is engraved in the memory of generations of Xuchang people, becoming a precious historical and cultural resource, and also achieving Xuchang's cultural advantage today.
Hearing about the affairs of the Three Kingdoms, I always wanted to go to Xuchang
On October 27, after playing in Xinyang for a day, we took the high-speed train to Xuchang.
Xuchang is located in the heartland of Central Plains, known as the 'center of Central Plains', with a long history and many historical sites. During the Qin Dynasty, Xu County was established here. During the Three Kingdoms period, many major historical events took place in Xuchang. In 221 AD, Cao Pi ascended the throne in Xuchang, established the Wei Kingdom, and renamed the 'Xu land' to 'Xuchang', which has been used to this day.
Coming to Xuchang, it is essential to visit the relics of the Three Kingdoms. Xuchang is the place with the most concentrated Three Kingdoms relics in the country, with more than 80 places reportedly. The hotel we stayed in was near the ancient city of Cao Wei, close to Xiaoxi Lake. It was noon when we finished the check-in procedures, so we walked along the city moat to the ancient city to find food.
The first scenic spot we visited in the afternoon was the Baliing Bridge Scenic Area. The Baliing Bridge Scenic Area is about 5 kilometers away from the ancient city, and it takes about half an hour by bus. Back then, Guan Yu received the news of his elder brother Liu Bei at Yuan Shao's place, so he left Xuchang with the seal and gold. Cao Cao chased Guan Yu with dozens of riders at the Baliing Bridge and gave him a brocade robe. Guan Yu was afraid of changes and did not dare to dismount. He only used the tip of the Green Dragon Crescent Blade to pick up the brocade robe and put it on his body. The current Baliing Bridge is rebuilt on the original site, and the entire scenic area also has Guan Yu Temple, Mei Garden and other attractions. Inside, there are sculptures of the Three Kingdoms stories such as Qingmei Boiling Wine Talking about Heroes, Cao Chong Weighing Elephants, and Looking at Plums to Quench Thirst, and you can also take a boat tour.
On the way back, we visited Xiaoxi Lake. Xiaoxi Lake is located in the city center of Weidu District. Because its area is smaller than Hangzhou West Lake and the scenery is exceptionally beautiful, and Su Shi once praised 'West Lake is small but also a beauty', hence the name Xiaoxi Lake.
The next morning, we took a car to the Xuchang Museum. After visiting the museum, we went to play in the ancient city of Cao Wei. The ancient city is a replica of ancient architecture, the gate tower is very majestic, and the buildings inside are built according to the style of the Cao Wei period. There are many restaurants and local snacks, and the residents in the ancient city also live and work normally, so the street is very lively. We had lunch in a restaurant in the ancient city, and then continued to visit the Chunqiu Building Scenic Area.
In the fifth year of Jian'an in the Eastern Han Dynasty, Cao Cao went east, and Guan Yu temporarily joined Cao Cao to protect the two empresses. After returning to Xuchang, Cao Cao gave a mansion to Guan Yu. Guan Yu, to avoid suspicion, divided the mansion into two courtyards, living in the outer courtyard. There is a building in the courtyard. Guan Yu reads the 'Spring and Autumn' here from dusk to dawn, and this building is named Chunqiu Building. Standing in front of the Chunqiu Building, looking up at the style of Guandi, imagining Guan Yu's heroic deeds more than a thousand years ago, it is awe-inspiring!
Leaving Chunqiu Building, we walked along the pedestrian street to Cao Prime Minister's Mansion. There is a large statue of Cao Cao on the square, which reproduces the heroic spirit of Cao Prime Minister. After entering the gate, you can see a huge 'Viewing the Sea' relief, which is majestic and magnificent! There are also attractions such as Qiu Xian Hall and Zang Bing Cave in the scenic area, which can further understand the historical culture and military of the Three Kingdoms period. For tourists who love to explore the relics of the Three Kingdoms, it is not to be missed.

If you’re in Henan, a great place to visit is the old street in Xuchang at night. Here you can find a mixture of hanfu rental stores, amazing street food and a local puppy market.
We loved seeing the Ming style street and the huge gate to mark the entrance, as well as taking a walk all the way to the ancient government building.

The hotel is near, it is the ancient city of Cao Wei.
The night scene is charming.
Caowei Ancient City is divided into two major areas, the core area and the coordination area, with the moat as the boundary. The overall functional division of one axis, one ring and six zones is formed.
axis" is based on the historical and cultural sites such as Chunqiu Building and Cao Yuxiang House, forming the central axis of Cao Wei which runs 1.3 kilometers long from north to south; the "one ring" is based on water and relies on the built ecological resources of the moat. Create a 5.3-kilometer-long ring of moats and rivers in Cao Wei. The "six districts" are folk culture and customs districts, ancient rhyme living areas, cultural and leisure living areas, characteristic waterfront living areas, coordinating and livable areas, and portal commercial areas.
