Baishuitai of Shangri-La, the Chinese version of the Cotton Castle

The milky, calcium carbonate-rich mountain spring water slows down as it flows down the mountain slope. The intense sunlight at high altitudes causes a large amount of spring water to evaporate, and the calcium carbonate gradually deposits. Over time, it turns into a spectacle that looks like cotton or clouds, and like terraced fields. The accumulated water turns into pieces of sapphires under the sunlight, and such a landscape has been around for thousands of years. Baishuitai is located in Baidi Village, Sanba Township, Shangri-La City, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. It is not only a natural landscape, but also the birthplace of the Dongba religion of the Naxi people. There are many temples and cultural relics of the Dongba religion around, such as the ancestral temple of the Dongba religion, Baishui Palace.
