The jade achieves the peach and the plum, the sea surges with waves

Yuhai Tower, located in Zhongyi Street, Yuhai Street, Rui'an City, Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province. In the fourteenth year of the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty (1888), it was built by Sun Yiyen and his son Sun Yirang. The Sun father and son admired the Southern Song Dynasty scholar Wang Yinglin, hence they named the tower after his monumental work 'Yuhai', to indicate that the collection of books is as precious as jade and as vast as the sea. The total land area is about 8,000 square meters. The Yuhai Tower complex consists of the Yuhai Book Collection Tower, Sun Yirang's former residence, and Baijin Taizhai, which are located on three north-south vertical axes. The most distinctive feature of the Yuhai Tower architecture is that it combines the functions of a book collection tower, the characteristics of excellent southern Zhejiang residences, and the style of a private garden. Yuhai Tower faces south with its back to the north, surrounded by rivers on three sides, with two front and rear entrances, left and right corridors, a quiet courtyard, and lush flowers and trees, making it one of the four famous book collection towers in Zhejiang. On November 20, 1996, Yuhai Tower was listed by the State Council as the fourth batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
