Tonghuai Guan Yue Temple, the largest martial temple in Fujian

Tonghuai Guan Yue Temple is located in Tumen Street, Licheng District, Quanzhou City, commonly known as Tumen Guandi Temple, mainly worshipping Guan Yu. In the third year of the Republic of China, Yue Fei was added to the worship, so the current name was changed. It is a famous ancient site for worshipping the saints of literature (Confucius) and martial arts (Guan Yu), and it is also the largest existing martial temple in Fujian Province. The main hall is the 'Wucheng Hall', which worships Guan Yu of the Three Kingdoms and Yue Fei of the Southern Song Dynasty. On the right is the 'Sanyi Temple', which worships Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei, who made a pact of brotherhood in the Peach Garden during the Three Kingdoms period, and Zhuge Liang is also worshipped. On the left is the 'Chongxian Hall', which worships the three generations of ancestors of Guan Gong. The entire temple is a spectacular group of symmetrical structures, with exquisite wood carvings, stone carvings, and clay sculptures, with a total construction area of 1,294 square meters. The temple preserves large plaques such as the 'Zhengqi' handwritten by Zhu Xi, a great scholar of the Song Dynasty, and the 'Chongsai Tiandi' book by Zhang Ruitu, a calligrapher of the Ming Dynasty. There are stone carvings and couplets of literati and virtuous people from Quanzhou throughout the ages, and the cultural connotation is rich.
