Kaiyuan temple in Quanzhou
#timetotravel
The largest temple in Fujian province is located in Quanzhou and a must visit! It is situated next to the famous west Street pedestrian street so it is convenient to get to.
Inside you will also find the worlds oldest mulberry tree that has been there for 1300 years. Photos are allowed but in some places restricted out of respect for deceased ancestors.

Qingjing mosque in Quanzhou
#timetotravel
Qingjing mosque is the oldest mosque in China, standing in its present site for over 1300 years! it is located around 1.5km from the main West Street and convenient to get to.
The entry costs just 3 RMB, but beware that women must cover up modestly to enter. I saw other female visitors denied entry because they were wearing skirts. Inside you can find ruins from centuries ago, while prayer rooms that are still in use today!

Chinese countryside life
Fujian tulou are traditional circular communal dwellings in China's Fujian province. These UNESCO World Heritage sites offer a glimpse into the unique lifestyle of the Hakka people. Primarily built between the 15th and 20th centuries, tulou served as fortified homes, providing safety and fostering community bonds. They often house multiple families and include features like a central courtyard, living quarters, and storage areas. While tourism has increased, some tulou continue to be inhabited, blending tradition with modern influences.

Relaxing at the West Lake Park in Fuzhou!
Fuzhou's West Lake Park is one of the most ancient parks of the city, with a history of over 1000 years!
There are several scenic spots around the lake, which makes it perfect for an afternoon stroll (even better at golden hour! 🌅)
The park has several beautiful bridges and nice rest areas, and offers the possibility of renting boats 🚣🏻

Hekeng: quiet, non-commercial tulou cluster
After visiting the stunning yet crowded Tianluokeng tulou cluster in Nanjing county, I decided to visit a more quiet, less touristy one. To do so, I headed to Hekeng cluster, which is located few kilometers from Tianluokeng (approximately 30 minutes drive, if no traffic jam... and yes, the road around Tianluokeng can get extremely jammed...)
In Hekeng you can admire the quiet, local lifestyle, far from the tourists. The tulou here are smaller and not commercial, perfect to admire the real tulou life.
Climb up to the view point to enjoy a panoramic sight of the village!
Entrance ticket is 40rmb

Splendid Tianluokeng Tulou Cluster!
Tianluokeng tulou cluster is one of the most famous clusters of Nanjing county, due to it's very famous and unique configuration. The village itself is quite commercial and used to visitors; there are in fact many restaurants, souvenir stalls and guesthouses inside the tulou and the surrounding buildings. The ticket (which includes 3 scenic spots in the area) is valid for 24h and costs 90rmb.
Even if notoriously commercial, I decided to go to have a look. The choice of going during the Chinese New Year week was not very wise, as I found a lot of crowd and traffic jam on the road to the cluster 😰
My suggestion would be to avoid national holidays and just go during low season if possible.
Nevertheless, the place itself is stunning and worth seeing when in China.
Especially at night or in the early morning (when most of the daily visitors are gone or not arrived yet), Tianluokeng is quiet and enchanting, a joy to be there. To do so, you should definitely spend the night in the area, better if in a tulou house!
And don't forget to bring your drone with you 😎🚁

Tulou villages: my favorite countryside 🌾
China has spectacular vernacular architecture all over the country, and the Tulou houses are definitely one of the most unique and interesting architectural typology of all.
Belonging to the Hakka people, Tulou are huge fortified dwelling meant to host several families belonging to the same clan.
A Tulou is split between families into slices, so that each one owns a piece of every floor.
At the bottom there are kitchen and spaces for the livestock, while on upper floors are storage and bedrooms.
It's difficult to capture in picture how amazing these structures are.
You MUST go and see it with your own eyes!

Quanzhou's lively West Street
When in Quanzhou, taking a stroll along the West Street, one of the most popular spots of the city, is a must do for every visitor!
West Street is located in the downtown area of Quanzhou (Fujian Province), at the side of the UNESCO site of the Kanyuan Temple.
The street is renowned for its local snacks and charming historic buildings, characterized by the local architectural style, recognizable by the lively orange color of the bricks and tiles.
I visited West Street during the week of Chinese New Year 2023, and although really crowded, I still enjoyed the local flavor and tasty street food! 😋🍢

Quanzhou for architecture & culture lovers !
Vibrant city to enjoy for at least 2 days for culture, architecture and food.
Few worth it half-day trips around doable by didi.
Active by day and night !
Visit the temple of the Queen of heaven in the morning then hang out around and through its southern streets during market time. Go back after sunset for a busy and messy atmosphere.
Go to Kaiyuan temple in the afternoon and hang out on Xi jie, have tea and watch the sunset from one of the rooftop. Favorite one Baishui Haoxi, a nice-edgy renovated Republic of China building (around 1930).
Get lost in the small streets and you will see small family temples built at every other corner.
Other great temples, Confucian temple, Chengtian temple, Tonghuai temple, to see both by day and pass by by night.
Stay at the Dongmian inn nearby the Chengtian temple, great host and ideal location.
A half-day trip to Xunpucun is easy by didi, this village has old houses with walls built out of oysters shell, unique.
Good destination for seafood and fish. A must try is also the ginger duck, a stewed duck long-cooked in iron pot with tones of ginger.

Forest Temple in Fuzhou's Countryside
Xuefengsi Temple is a green temple complex 50km west of Fuzhou city in Fujian province. It's a very old and well preserved Buddhist temple.🛕
ℹ️ The temple has three large praying halls, a small museum and is surrounded by nice trees and a holly forest. It's very calm and peaceful, because there are only villages around it and the big city is far away.
📍It's a little adventurous to visit Xuefengsi, the only convenient choice is with car. Taxi is also possible, but it won't be a cheap ride. Follow the navigation to: 雪峰崇圣禅寺 and you will arrive after one hour from Fuzhou.

Nice City-Beach in Xiamen
Xiamen is a nice city in Fujian province. As the city is on an island, there are some small beaches in the city district of Xiamen. 🏖️
Baicheng Beach is located to the south of Xiamen University and between the Yan Wu Bridge and Hu Li Shan Fortress, Baicheng Beach is the closest beach to the city center. It’s also the most popular beach in Xiamen with convenient transportation and free entry all day, so you won't feel lonely.
The water is not as nice as in Sanya, but I went for a short swim.
🎟️ Free and open all day and night.

Zhangzhou Niuzhuang Cultural Park!
I'm currently in Zhangzhou so I decided to explore this city. As usual, there are a lot of parks you can go to anywhere in China. Niuzhuang Cultural Park is different from the other parks. This one doesn't have nature you can see but there are a lot of shops and restaurants around. I think this place is popular for leisure activities. Walking around to see the colorful buildings takes around 15 minutes and after that it's either you want to drink or eat. If you are hungry and at the same time you want to snap some photos I think this place can be your go to.

Fujian Tulou
Tulou or "earthen building" is Hakka people village from 13th/14th century. It's located in Fujian province, around 2 hours drive from Xiamen. UNESCO put it under World Heritage at 2008. There are so many tulous around Fujian but we choose this one which is best for pictures and have amazing view. With tea terraces around place look like from some story.
Tulou houses have few floors, circular or square shape and it was planned to be home for more then 600 people. They are constructed with raw earth, mixed with bamboo, stones and wood.
It was amazing experience, I was feeling some special vibe walking around, so I definitely recommend everyone to visit it.

Jiulong Bonsai Garden, Zhangzhou!
We decided to go to a park in Zhangzhou. It is one of the best parks here. It has a big pond, a lot of big trees probably they are Bonsai trees? I'm not sure about that it's just in my country, bonsai could be a plant or a tree. Many kids were playing and having fun. Adults were playing cards too and Chinese chess. The bridges in the middle of the pond is quite attractive and also the dragons figure at the entrance. We just stayed there approximately 30 minutes. There are small boats too but that time we went we couldn't use them. Well, this park is good to go jogging or just walk around.

Driving around Quanzhou!
It was a good experience for us to drive around Quanzhou. The roads were empty during our trip since it was still on Chinese New Year's Day. We stopped by every place which has beaches and explore a bit. It's very convenient when you are travelling by car since you can decide anywhere you want to go. Our main destination was Fuzhou but we decided to have a stop in Quanzhou. It's a very quiet place probably because of the holiday but I felt like I was in the country and it's just peaceful I think. We also passed Ocean Kingdom. I saw a lot of people and kids were there so we didn't get inside. The place is huge and I think it is indeed an amusement park. Quanzhou is a good place to chill and play I suppose.

Pingtan, Fuzhou!
Going back to Zhangzhou we decided to stopped by Pingtan Island. This island is very peaceful I supposed and I was interested in there houses most of all I just find it great thinking. I suppose it is windy in that island so residents put some stones on their roofs. I think it's fascinating they different houses exterior. I think their main source of income is fishing. I can see a lot of fishing boats and of course some seafood around. It's good to know that there is a place like that in China. It's also popular for it's rock forms it's similar to Bali I would say like there are some interesting rocks where you can the water in it and splashing all over. It is good to travel by car you can stop by anywhere you like. The weather wasn't good at that time though.

A good place to have a Picnic in Fuzhou!
We travelled 3 cities in Fujian by car. It was a nice experience to see their beautiful aspects. Zhangzhou, Quanzhou and Fuzhou these places have beaches. Although they are not as nice as in Sanya but they are good enough. Since it's still cold the beaches are empty but I think in Summer it won't be as many people as in Sanya. It's a good option to go to especially for those who are into beaches and mountains. When we were in Fuzhou we decided to have a picnic so my partner searched a good place where it has a good view And yes he found one. This place is good to have a picnic. When we arrived there only one group of friends were there. I was quite happy because it's not crowded and we can mostly enjoy the place and the view. We paid 30 yuan for the parking well that's ok you can stay there as long as you want. I really like the place.

Beautiful Xiamen- Botanical Garden
The Botanical Garden is a bucketlist item when visiting Xiamen. It is located on the southern side of the island, close to Xiamen University, the cable car, Shapowei and Zhongshan Road. It usually costs 40¥ to enter, but entry is free during the major public holidays.
It is recommended to set aside about 3-5 hours to explore the gardens, as there is a lot to see.
The gardens are home to around 4000 different plant species, and are divided in different sections, like the bamboo forrest, succulent garden or Pine and Fern Garden.
There are also plenty of temples to see, and beautiful lawns to have a picnic, or take a nap on.
It is a great place to take the kids, or to see some interesting plants and beautiful scenery

Beautiful Xiamen
Xiamen is an island city in Fujian province, China.
It has so much to offer, and plenty of things to see. Popular sights include Zhongshan Road Pedestrian street, Gulangyu Island, Bailuyuan Park, sightseeing cable car, Botanical Gardens, Shapowei and beautiful beaches.
The city has some amazing restaurants, both Western and Chinese, and the social scene is bustling.
Nature and adventure is right around the corner, and the mountains of Tongan are easily accessible via bus or taxi. There are beautiful waterfalls and natural streams, and there are groups in Xiamen who organise regular hiking and adventure trips.
Xiamen is the perfect holiday or permanent destination. A visit is highly recommended

Dolphin Bay in Quanzhou!
We had a road trip during Chinese New Year holiday. We came from Zhangzhou then stopped by Quanzhou and our last destination was Fuzhou. When we were in Quanzhou, we saw nice views and places. One of them is the Dolphin Bay. It seems like it's an abandon area. Nobody is there and the place looks like it hasn't been taken care of. I feel like it's a waste since the place is quite attractive. It is huge. There are some accommodations around I think. There are villas around which also look like nobody is living. I think there were some activities the guests could do. I saw a long slide which is I think connected to the sea. If this was open I think it could be one of the attractions in Quanzhou. It is beautiful.

Ganlu Rock Temple and Taining Global Geopark
Taining is a small town in the Northern part of Fujian province, China. It is surrounded by beautiful bamboo forests and lakes. The most popular being the Big Golden Lake. There are plenty of sights to see around the lake, including Baxian cliff, Jinrao mountain and a beautiful natural waterfall. My personal favorite was Ganlu Rock Temple. It is a temple built into the caves of the mountain. The architecture and construction is breathtaking, and people used to live there. Our tour guide believes that the monks still live there today. The temple is situated in the mountain, so be prepared to climb a few steps.
The temple and other attractions are not accessible by car, so one needs to take a guided boat tour to get there. The boat departs from the docks in Jiaojiao Fishing Village (10 minute taxi ride from Taining town), and the tour is 3 hours. The boat stops at 3 scenic spots, where you will have plenty of time to explore the sights.
Taining is perfect for a leisure weekend filled with history and culture. Definitely worth a 3 day visit
