Magical Malaga, the beauty of Spain 🇪🇸
Malaga, Andalusia Spain.
As a child I came here so many times with my parents and this city has always felt very special to me, it’s such a beautiful part of Spain and perfect for a weekend away.
The city centers on beautiful shopping streets lined with marble where little alley ways take you away to cafes, markets and churches. The cathedral is an imposing feature that towers above the smaller side streets around it, you can go in to take in the sheer scale of the building.
The central market is a buzz of activity with all the fresh produce you could need, the streets surrounding it are a network of cafes, restaurants and patisseries. The main shopping street contains all the big western brands you could need, as well as local craft shops and souvenir stands.
There are also lots of malls and a big El Corte Ingles within a 15 minute walk of the city center if you’re after more shopping.
The city has two main stations, one for high speed rail across Spain and one for the commuter rail towards Torremolinos. The commuter rail is very cheap and efficient and a good way to explore the little towns and cities along the coast.

Malaga you won my heart
Malaga ; it was such a great place overall.
The architecture, foods, people, weather and what else could you ask for? I went there with hijab on, I feel safe and comfortable. There’s so many things to do, you can enjoy the sunset, go to beach, kayaking, museums trip and so on. It was also a budget friendly and accept card, best place to visit!
Like Spain, I am bound to the past. Málaga
The history of Málaga, shaped by the city's location in southern Spain on the western shore of the Mediterranean Sea, spans about 2,800 years, making it one of the oldest cities in the world very easy to get around by bus for €1.44, you can get from the airport to the city centre food and beer is very reasonable price. Very easy to get around. Everything is pretty much walking distance. The weather was amazing like 20° as they had a heatwave. Was there for a few days definitely worth going. Definitely will be going again#solotravel #mytravelhacks

La Santa Iglesia Catedral Basílica de la Encarnacion Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Malaga Cathedral
Paid a visit to the Malaga Cathedral which was built between 1528 and 1782. The architecture was stunning and I was in awe of the details at each and every corner of the cathedral.
Entry is about 6€, and they have student prices, youth prices, senior prices and adult prices so do remember to bring your student card if you have:) I paid 9€ to climb to the roof of the cathedral. Please note that you can only do that with a guided tour which happens every hour.
It’s about a 200-steps climb to the roof of the Cathedral but the steps and stairways are quite narrow hence I won’t recommend for those with any injuries or weak legs.
Even if you don’t climb up to the roof, you can still admire the church for its beauty, size and architecture.

The post-60s Granny Goo traveled alone through Malaga, Europe
Granny Goo's 10th day of solo travel in Europe, 2/29 from Granada to Malaga, train AVANT 8935, 2h24m, walked 22443 steps.
⭐ Upon arrival in Malaga that day, visited the Malaga Picasso Museum (pictures 2-4) and the Cathedral (pictures 5-7). Granny Goo doesn't understand art, but since Malaga is Picasso's birthplace, it was a must-see. Unfortunately, the Picasso exhibition hall was closed, only displaying works by other artists. When asked why, the staff said that the museum closes for one month every year, and this year it will not open until March 19th. The regular ticket price is 12 euros, but during the closure of the Picasso exhibit, the ticket is 9 euros.
⭐ The Malaga Cathedral ticket is a bit pricey at 10 euros. Coming out of the cathedral, it was already past six o'clock, and the sun was still shining brightly. Wandering aimlessly, stumbled upon the castle, the University of Malaga, the ancient Roman theater, the town hall, and the port.
⭐ The next day, traveled from Malaga to Ronda and back, and after returning from Ronda, climbed the castle (ALCAZABA) (pictures 9-10), strolled on the beach, citywalk 25000 steps. The castle is built on a hillside in the center of Malaga. The Malaga Castle is an outstanding representation of Islamic civilization, with many porches, towers, gardens, and courtyards full of Muslim charm. The view of the port and the city from the castle is breathtaking.
⭐ The Malaga beach is beautiful (pictures 12-14), but the sand is gray-black and coarse. Under the glow of the setting sun, many locals were relaxing and entertaining on the beach, some playing beach volleyball, others sitting around playing cards.
⭐⭐ Malaga (Málaga) is a small city located on the Costa del Sol in the Mediterranean, in southern Andalusia, Spain, with a population of less than 600,000, making it Spain's second-largest Mediterranean port. It is situated between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, and between Europe and Africa. From the ancient Roman amphitheater of the 3rd century, the Muslim castle of the 6th century, to the church of the 8th century converted from a mosque, etc. Like Granada, Malaga is filled with traces of Islamic culture. The history and beauty of Malaga are worth your visit.

Nerja Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Balcón de Europa
Nerja is a very beautiful town where the colours will change. The sea is not blue is turquoise, the light is so bright and the energy that you feel is so pure that you may want to spend extra time exploring this area. Nerja is not only beautiful for this view. Your really need to go and explore it because anything that I will describe it was get even close. Its narrow streets are very beautiful, they are decorated with flowers and you can walk along them smelling the flowers and at different times coffee, bakery and even super nice food for the restaurants. If you are not a fan of the Spanish cuisine you will also get to experience a very French Brasserie and an Italian Restaurant. When you will look at the map, Nerja may seem a tiny spot but it has many quirky details.

The little nugget of Nerja!
I absolutely love this place! Both with character and tourism this place is a short drive from Malaga which is great for us! THE VIEWS ARE AMAZING! We managed to
find a cute place to have lunch and I even remember a small memory of the train so many years later, almost like de javú it was crazy! It is worth mentioning the main vista is very crowded during busy tourist days like the weekend so if possible it is best to try to visit during the week and mainly morning before the crowd will arrive! It is well
worth it! In the meantime comment below to let me know if you have been to Nerja and your thoughts! I can’t wait to go back again!
The small town of Nerja, the cleanest and clearest sea breeze in the small town, is the longing for many wanderers. It lacks the amazing scenery and the harmony between nature and people. The blue sea, the green, the sun, the sea, the noisy town, give people unlimited imagination and yearning. The simple and ultimate beauty is in the midst of this volatilization. King Alfonso XII inspected the area and boarded the terrace. After that, the terrace was named European Balcony
The terrace had a great view, not only to see the east coast of the Costa del Sol, but also to see behind it. In the Sierra Nevada, the days of good visibility can even be seen on the other side of the North African continent of Morocco.
The city is not big, the hillside is tightly nestled on the coast, but it is called the European terrace. The white buildings are bluer, with a blue sea and a white heart.
From a coastal apartment that can only be counted as a second language in Spanish, to a mountain village that has not changed since Ferrigari Carlos wrote his rural trilogy, the old and modern southern Andalusia Just like the epitome of Spain - half of this place is being overexploited, the other half still maintains the original Spanish tradition, and by doing a good balance between the two, you can find your own Spanish style.
Alcazaba Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Beautiful view from Alcazaba
Alcazaba is located in the city centre, behind the ancient Roman theatre. It is also conveniently located near the University of Malaga.
It can be quite a climb for elderly but it definitely has a wonderful view of the city and very suitable for families.
My friends and I enjoyed the old architecture, fresh air and beautiful view of Malaga, including the port:) There’s also an area within the attraction that showcases artefacts and the history of the place.
Entry is free on Sunday AFTER 2pm so I would recommend to go then! There’s quite a number of eateries nearby such as the famous El Pimpi (requires reservation).

Alcazaba fortress in the heart of Malaga
Alcazaba fortress was already built back in the early 11th century by Hammumid Dynasty during the times when Andalucia was under Arab control.
Inside the fortress, the visitor can experience breathtaking views from many places. The fortress itself and the sea seen from the hill (the fortress was built on a fairly steep hill) is just amazing.
The regionally important citrus trees are also present and the colorful fruits can be seen during the autumn.
As moving in the fortress area is quite hard due to the steep hill, selecting a fairly cool day to visit the place can be a good idea. There are some ticket packages available that grant access to all the historical buildings in the area. Seeing all of them needs one day or even more so don’t try to push yourself too hard.
I personally enjoyed that there is a new beautiful view waiting behind almost every corner. The different parts of the area are somewhat varying in terms of style and condition so it’s worth going everywhere. Some snacks and drinks can be bought inside the area but the availability of services is fairly limited. Remember to have your drinking water with you!
The fortress is situated in the heart of the old city of Malaga in Andalucia, Spain. it can be seen from the harbor and easily accessed from the shopping streets in the center. Actually the location is so central, that it’s fairly hard to miss the place.
I really recommend going to Malaga. The history can be seen and felt there so it’s among my favorite places in the south coast of Spain. It’s also worth mentioning that the queues are much shorter than in Granada.

Nice Complex with Garden
Alcazaba is built between 1057 and 1063, it is located just below Castillo de Gibralfaro, and is around 2.3 kilometers 30 minutes walk from the train station.
Alcazaba offers a spectacular view toward the harbour area, but you can get a better view at Vista Lookout or Castillo de Gibralfaro.
A small uphill climb can get you to the main open courtyard with gardens and fountains in the middle. The courtyard then spills into another elevated area that leads you through another gate into the upper part, with a beautiful arched window.
A Roman Amphitheater was discovered in the 50s following the construction of cultural centre building.
You get a free entrance when you come on Sunday after 1400hrs.
Mercado Central de Atarazanas Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Bar Mercado Atarazanas
Bar Mercado Atarazanas is located inside the market at Calle Atarazanas, 29005, around 1.2 kilometers 15 minutes walk away from the train station, operating from Monday to Saturday at 0900-1500 hrs.
Bar Mercado Atarazanas was the original market bar here and, what started as one small stall years ago, has been expanded with additional stalls in front, as well as a few tables outside.
They serve very cold beer, wine, fresh seafood from the fish stall, grilled meat and my favorite paella at an affordable price.
There is nothing fresher than eating in the market, so they do one of the best brochettes in Malaga.
Central Market
The Mercado Central de Atarazanas is one of the buildings which best represent the architecture of the nineteenth century in Malaga, located at 10 Calle Atarazanas, 29005, around 1.2 kilometers 15 minutes walk from the train station.
In its stalls, all of them are arranged by type of product, you can find everything from meats, fish and vegetables.
It is also a very typical place to eat, as some fish stalls have tables where they cook fresh products for their customers.
It is one of the most important shopping centres in the city, where everyday the people of Malaga come to buy fresh produce, visitors come for the fresh seafood, or just to stroll through this building.
A must see in Malaga
#familytrips2024
This food market in Malaga is a busy and bustling place with loads of delicious fruit and veg to choose from. This place makes me happy! One of the absolute best markets we've been to in Europe!
You can also eat some of the freshest seafood around and watch as it is prepared right in front of you! We had a late lunch just outside with fresh seafood from the market, yummy! A must visit when in town is beautiful !
Our dream destination is to go to Hong Kong for my family trip as Hong Kong is paradise for food lovers, offering a wide variety of culinary delights. My family will enjoy it very much.
