Beijing memories 😍😍😍😍😍❤️🇨🇳 Oh my lovely China, call me again! 😭🥰🥳❤️ When I think back on my adventures in Beijing, I literally get all the feels. This city is an absolute *vibe* – the ancient beauty mixed with modern hustle is next-level 🤯. From wandering the majestic Forbidden City (address: 4 Jingshan Front St, Dongcheng, Beijing; open Tue-Sun 8:30am-5pm) to getting my steps in on the Great Wall (Mutianyu section is seriously iconic, Huairou District, open daily 7:30am–6pm), every second was sooo good! Don’t even get me started on the food 😋 – slurping hot bowls of zhajiangmian, devouring crispy Peking Duck in fancy restaurants in Dongcheng... my tummy is literally writing this for me. And the nightlife? Imagine chilling at Houhai Lake with friends, the lights sparkling and everyone just living their best lives 🥂✨. Beijing, I already miss you. BRB while I scroll trip.com for my next ticket back! #traveldiaries

The Forbidden City. I'll be honest - I thought I'd stroll through, take some pretty photos, and leave. Instead I spent the whole day sprinting, squeezing, and getting swept along by crowds like I was in a current.

We got there right at opening and still had to push through the Meridian Gate with about a thousand other people. Everyone moving in the same direction, tour flags waving, somebody's selfie stick nearly taking out my eye. And then you cross that first courtyard, and it's so huge and so empty that the crowd just... spreads out. I broke into a run at one point, just because there was space and because the Hall of Supreme Harmony was up ahead and I wanted to see it before the tour groups caught up. I made it. Stood there, breathing hard, looking up at that double-eaved yellow roof, and the whole thing hit me at once - everything here is built to make you feel small. The yellow tiles were only allowed for the emperor, because yellow was the center of the world, and he was the center of the world. The empty courtyard in front of the hall? Designed to make officials feel tiny before they even got close. I looked back at all those people pouring through the gate behind me and thought, yep, it's still working.

Then I started noticing the details while dodging through the halls. Little rows of animals on the roof corners, each one meaning something, more of them on the more important buildings - the Hall of Supreme Harmony has the most. Bronze turtles and cranes for longevity. Lions out front, the male with a ball under his paw, the female with a cub. I kept stopping to point at things and getting nudged by people behind me, so eventually I just moved with the flow and looked up as I went.

And the best part happened at the back. You cross from the outer court into the inner court, and the scale just drops - smaller halls, tighter courtyards, actual gardens. I ducked into a side passage to escape the crowd and ended up somewhere almost empty, just me and a wall and a tree. That's where I finally slowed down. The emperor as a god out front, the emperor as a person in the back, and I'd run the whole way between them. Six hundred years later, the place still makes you do exactly what it was built to make you do.
